Nestlé, maker of Kit Kat, uses palm oil from companies that are trashing Indonesian rainforests, threatening the livelihoods of local people and pushing orang-utans towards extinction.
We all deserve to have a break - but having one shouldn't involve taking a bite out of Indonesia's precious rainforests. We're asking Nestlé to give rainforests and orang-utans a break and stop buying palm oil from destroyed forests.

Never have I seen an ad that has made me not want a candy bar and want eat my own thumbs at the same time.
Thanks for posting this video. Its time more people knew about the destructive nature of the palm oil business.
Are Cadburys just as guilty as Nestle in this ?
Anyway its not just Nestle. So many products in our supermarket contain Palm Oil, but as its mixed with various other oils its labelled as 'vegetable oil' or whatever.
This is just yet another example that the dollar in the pocket beats anything, even the destruction of a forest or an animal species.
This is a great video- the message is simple yet effective. It's shameful the lows that Nestle will sink to.
The Greenpeace Nestlé Video "Have a break" is the winner of the Viral Video Award 2010!!! congrats :)
I am Addicted to Chocolate so can you share any chocolate that doesn't use Palm oil. 💖😉😥🍫💖
Okay so I need a list of the companies that mistreat the environment so I don't consume their products anymore
Cláudia Almeida Check out Hershey's chocolate
Thank you :)
Thank you a lot! That was helpful!
Jesus, dude. We get that you enjoy the new jelly-filled Kit Kats, but could at least not make a mess?
That’s not a jelly-filled KitKat, that’s a Orang-Utan finger!

Ok, nestlé does not buy palm oil from Sina Mar there are at least two years, and it is actually part of the RSPO, which fight against palm oil exploitation on lands where there is any kind of forest . So unless I'm wrong, eating a Kit Kat won't hurt indonesia.
I'm not sure if the advertisement is trying to promote the chocolate bar 'KitKat' or give awareness to what Nestle is doing All i know is that I won't be eating my kitkat bar anytime soon
I think this ad has missed the mark. Instead of having everyone who loves KitKat on board with Greenpeace, it's actually a turn off and would likely make people not want to see Greenpeace advertisement or messaging for a very long time - ever. This ad is clearly communicating to people who probably aren't loyal consumers of KitKat - the type of people that won't make a negative financial impact to KitKat's business. Therefore, the ad has failed in it's objective.
I have now vowed to stop buying nestle products as well as some other companies which I am aware have some immoral practices. Hoping they will get the message and change their ways soon before the damage become irreversible.
Shouldn't the information on this one be updated? ''This morning, Nestlé finally announced a break for the orang-utan - as well as Indonesian rainforests and peatlands - by committing to stop using products that come from rainforest destruction.'' (May 17. 2010 page: www.greenpeace.org/kitkat) So this was almost 4 years a go...
Natheyja there’s hard evidence that the announcement was a lie. They have not stopped buying from companies that destroy the orangutan's habitat
Cadbury chocolates did the same with their Australian markets. Because their customers were educated about Palm Oil, after two months, and much public outcry, Palm Oil was removed after two months of incorporation. We CAN do the same with Nestle.
alguem aqui veio do canal campo a mesa
Eu!
Eu kkk, mas ja tinha visto esse video, pesado
this was getting to me and i think the the melodramatic splirt of blood did just lighten it up a bit
Actually, Hersey distributes and makes Kit Kat under license from Nestle within the United States only. Everywhere else, it's distributed and made by Nestle
I'm rarely ever squeamish but oh my god. I'll remember this
good job of raising awareness in the general public that there is a connection between Nestlé and deforestation in less than 60 seconds
Consuming my fingers so my older brother doesn’t break them
For some strange reason the way he eats the finger with the blood coming out, looks delicious to me
I am Indonesian, and I need every body's help to stop deforestation in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and West Papua. Thanks to GP for campaign. Many giant company there that control the Indonesian corrupt government. Rich is getting rich and poor is getting poorer. That is a fact what is going on in Indonesia.
I am sorry
This is the kind of exposure issues like this one need. Deforestation is a significant problem and any support for it should be removed. I have to say that Greenpeace has done an excellent job with this commercial.
Our computing teacher was trying to show us an ethical issue about KitKats using Atari Breakout in an advert, but accidently showed the class this xD
greatest ad campaign ever
That's a pretty good way to stop people eating Kit Kats!! lol
Nice work Greenpeace hehe
Go Greenpeace!!
In the Philippines, there exists a Boycott Nestlé campaign due to suspected labor rights violations in a factory in Laguna province. This campaign is led by Kilusang Mayo Uno.
@Kevo216666 They both do. People in Australia (or New Zealand, I can't remember) boycott Cadbury's chocolates because there was palm oil in it.
Now they are making chocolate without pal oil for the Australian consumers (and only for them as I heard)
Aww, but I love kit kats. Besides what will happen to the workers in indonesia if we stop buying from nestle. I think greenpeace should focus more on the company that actual extracts the palm oil and work with nestle on that . Not attack nestle directly.
Outstanding work. Brutal, but then so is corporate greed...
If you love our planet there are three steps, the least you can do:
1.Go to the website above(on the description) choose your country and sign the petition
2.tell everyone about this(you can send the video to friends)
3.stop buying this chocolate. and of course other nestle products
Actions we take in our local grocery store affect life on the other side of the planet.
Video statistics shows a massive bump in early 2013. What happened then?
dude that was awesome ..you guys should make more vids like that... its really entertaining shit
DUDE?! WHAT THE HELL MAN! Seriously that is horrible, I mean I get making a point but dude
FlyingVorstin greenpeace uses this as a way of making people respond to the video and to get it talked about
I’m eating a Kit Kat while watching this video 😏
from Hershey's
Wow The Kitkat Design Is Old.. So Nostalgic 0:20
@ wettenlu Everyone's welcome to have their say, but keep your comments clean please, otherwise they will be deleted.
Oes noes.. think of the people. They're so vulnerable that the shocking images will get to them. No wonder most people are spineless cowards that never do anything useful except criticize others and expect others to rescue them. If they think this is offensive, they should visit one of the meat processing factories that provide their food.
Ah, so this is why Nestlé is trying to sell it's chocolate division
oh gosh, every SINGLE time i eat a kit kat. i freaking remember this commecial and feel so sick.. and this is when i'm halfway though a freaking kitkat mind you.
All i looked up was kitkat ads.....
Good God, this PSA turned me off Kit Kat for a long time. Thanks a lot Greenpeace, now when I open a pack of Kit Kat I have to hope there are no orangutan fingers in the packaging
You realize you just made me buy a kitkat?
wow, this got to me, still being a student i think my friends should see this, people make a big deal about saving polar bears but we need to halp the orangutans, we should boycot nestle and keep to the good old cadburys, besides its not even that nice half the time
In the village near mine is also a big nestle factory. I could also ask everyone, whether this is true. Of course, everyone would tell me how cruel their company is...
Never thought about that people lye sometimes?
hey Leuta, kann mir einer von euch sagen, wier ich dieses video runterladen kann? ich will das in meine powerpoint präsentation über greenpeace einbauen, und ich finde da passt das so gut...total traurig
Sad but true :(
Why don't greenpeace members just set up a 'organic' 'renewable' palm oil farm?
Oh wait, but wouldn't that actually mean doing something productive?
(Just posting this information in response to the person who asked if anyone had read Nestle's side of the story. I think it makes it clear that Nestle is caught in a bind here. They may be taking more than their share of the negative publicity, compared to Cargill, but the result is that the company will have to take action in response to this ad and their initial choice to take it down. Which is what makes the campaign effective.)
Ten points if you can spot the Kit Kat PR lackies
nice one guys i saw this video in geography and i decided to show my brother it aswell :)
That's a really good advert.
I believe Nestle sells Kit Kats in other places... not sure though.
It's over the top videos like this which give Greenpeace and such a bad name, I don't think you need a video with such grotesque imagery to get your point across. It's good that Nestlé stopped buying the palm oil though.
I also doubt that the people Nestlé bought the palm oil from are the worst offenders for deforestation too.
the crunchy bits are the orang-utan bone and gristle...
Except the campaign was a massive success and Nestle now only use certified sustainable palm oil.
@mithuna27 they still use it but not from companies that destroy the rainforests?
According to CNN, Nestle claims that it buys its palm oil from Cargill. In turn, Cargill is applying pressure to Sinar Mas (the company alleged to be clearing rainforests in Indonesia) to answer Greenpeace's allegations. Nestle is the "public" face of the problem and takes the brunt of the negative campaign. A campaign against Cargill wouldn't be effective. Nestle also gave Greenpeace a great opportunity when it tried to silence this message, leading to more publicity against Nestle.
just grab the embed code on the right - you'll be able to embed it everywhere
In the US, KitKat is owned by Hershey.
In other places in the world, Nestle owns it.
This video makes me want to eat a kitkat bar just to spite whoever made it.
@GreenpeaceUK
thanks for posting, a proper eye opener. i didn't know and now i do.
we need to be awakened out of our consumerist stupor before our brains are blunted for ever. well done greenpeace.
i still want a kitkat though...
My geography teacher showed this on class today.
So you get nightmares from it?
That was nasty. D:
The fact that these plantations were also accused of using slaves, stealing land and outright murdering people is barely mentioned in the little bit of media covering this issue. Of course, Nestle has been dealing with slave labor to purchase cocoa for years, so it's doubtful they'd let a few brutal human rights violations elsewhere get in the way of business.
This video is cool because it is really affective and could get the message accross! We need to help the orangutans!!
good way to get the point across
Wow, that's surprisingly graphic.
@Citr0nJaune I hate to say it, but the majority of Australians only started boycotting Cadbury products because it changed the consistency of the chocolate, not for environmental reasons -__-
No one told me that the Kit Kat crunch came from orangutan fingers. Now that I know about its high protein content, I'm going to buy two.
Kit-Kit: Now in Limited Edition Orang-utan Flavor!
thank you nightmare fule entry on tvropes
It has a great messege but at the same time Im like what the hell did i just watch!?
Eentje om over na te denken als je nog eens een KItkat wil pakken!
Isn't palm oil fattening?
DEAR GOD... They should put raspberry jelly in Kit Kat bars. Oh, and they need do something about that deforestation problem too.
so did they stop using palm oil now ??
It's time to make the connection of what we use and where it comes from!
Thanks Greenpeace that's a good way to open people's eyes.
Vamos prestar mais atenção para a procedência dos produtos que compramos. Há sempre uma alternativa mais interessante. Exercitemos nosso poder de consumidor.
Não compre produtos de certas empresas... até pelo menos elas mudarem de postura.
Axé.
Instead of attacking nestle and the palm industry, greenpeace could be helping them find a solution that can save both the orang utan and the people whose livelihood depend on the palm oil industry.
Bracing for hate comments.
and why do nestle is only focused on profit as well as all us companies ?
innovations costs too much than profits
better post some shitty comment
Maybe by highlighting the issue Nestle and other companies like them will contact Greenpeace to find a solution?
That's a very positive way to look at it but the thing about these big companies, they have their research teams that can find better ways to go about things, they just don't because it maximizes profit to do it without giving a shit about the Planet, animals and other people. They usually only change when they've been exposed.
There's a lot of money in palm oil industry, it's in so many products but it always needs to come from a good sustainable source 👍🌎
this is funny, but also kinda sad. I think i signed the petition to to show products that use palm oil.
I think I need a Kit Kat now...
it is not nestle directly that destroys the forests, at least not in this particular case, they are buying it from a company who does.
Good to know I am not the only one who refuses to buy Nestle :)
Signed, I now sabotage Kitkat.
Ah well, I don't eat Kit Kats anyway!
High. Octane. Nightmare. Fuel.
Are you working for the Nestlé?
So.. what chocolate is the best then to eat? I won't eat kit kats anymore..
MMM...Chery filled Kit-Kats. I want some.
For crying out loud, aren't there lots of other oils Nestle could use???
@SlightyDisturbedNBK I agree with you too.
When did I say I hate Orang-utans?
Sigh... let's drop the slavery for a bit.
1. Nestle does not buy their oil from Indonesia.
2. The main cause of deforestation in Indonesia is not the Palm Oil.
3. Greenpeace wants money and they're using guilt to get it -
They make people feel guilty.
People want to feel better so they donate.
Greenpeace gets money.
Follow that link. How much time did you have to spent actually finding this cause and not just giving them the money blindly?
why am i reminded of PETA? great job =)
Unfortunately, you cannot actually acquire conviniently packaged simian phalanges for the occasional stack in an ordinary setting.
IM not gonna buy a kit kat untill this is fixed
That new candy bar looks delicious.
