    Finally confirmation that the name "Giygas" is pronounced "ghee-gihs", instead of "guy-gihs". The reason of the sound "ghee" seeming off to the ear. Cool!

    • @ThaneGaming
      @ThaneGaming  Год назад +9

      I won't fault people for pronouncing it "guy-gihs", as I know it sounds cooler. I just hope more fans recognize that "ghee-gihs" is closer to Itoi's intention with the name!

    • @SomaCoreaix
      @SomaCoreaix Год назад +1

      @@ThaneGaming Yeah, for a while I also pronounced it that way, even though I myself have never played Earthbound (shock I know)....but through so much word of mouth and genuine love people have for the game, it's one of those rare games which I love without having even played, if that makes sense lol. My first exposure was actually through a video of top Nintendo disturbing bosses, and guess who is typically at the top? 😉
      Also, have a sub! 😊

    • @ThaneGaming
      @ThaneGaming  Год назад +2

      @@SomaCoreaix That's funny, my initial exposure to EarthBound was also one of those "top disturbing Nintendo bosses"! Ness & Lucas in Super Smash Bros. wasn't enough to convince me to play the games--it was seeing Giygas for the first time that sold it for me. I couldn't believe something like that was at the end of such a seemingly innocous game, and it inspired episode one of Dark Aspects! I think when most people first see "Giygas" spelled out, they say it that way in their heads, myself included--I made the switch though when I looked into it more. That absolutely does make sense, I have a few games I admire quite a bit but have never actually played myself either (Rule of Rose is one of them).

    • @SomaCoreaix
      @SomaCoreaix Год назад +1

      @@ThaneGaming Exactly! EarthBound is one of those games that seems cute and cuddly on the surface until you begin to realize the deeper meaning of everything. Even then, nothing is quite as unsettling as that final confrontation, as well as the music. In fact I think the first part of Giygas' theme, when you first see the Devils Machine, is the scariest song and situation in the entire game and really sells the fact that nothing earlier on could have prepared you for this. The rest of the game is so goofy and abstract, which I love. Contrasted with the pure horror of the finale it all makes for one hell of a unique experience that would NEVER be justified in a remake (PLEASE NINTENDO NEVER SOIL THE ORIGINAL WITH A SHODDY, likely watered-down redux). Itoi really nailed the aspect of an RPG set in a modern setting, and the game was far too clever for its time because of it. A remake would only end up perversing the original because I have no doubt that many things would be changed or removed, so as not to offend people. It got away with alot back then, and its endearing legacy deserves to be forever cast in titanium, never to be broken.
      Now if a Mother 4 came along.....then, who knows? 😀
      On the subject of Rule of Rose, I haven't played that either but I highly recommend an analysis video by RagnarRox which dissects the game into quite a compelling watch, at over an hour.

    I hope we get a mother 4 one day. no other "motherlike" really fills the void the Mother series gives.

    • @ThaneGaming
      @ThaneGaming  Год назад +30

      I'm split on this! I would love to play a MOTHER 4, though I'd want Itoi to write it (or at the very least, work closely with a writer of Itoi's choosing and then sign off on it). He's very likely done with making video games, however, so I'd rather Nintendo just remake the games that already exist and not alter the original scripts. If they had to make something brand new set in the series though, I might be OK with a spin off that plays like the RPGs, in the vein of Cognitive Dissonance or something. That last part is key--we don't need an EarthBound version of Hey! Pikmin or Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash lol

    Thank you so much for making this video!!! I first got into the MOTHER series when I was 11-12 years old and now as an adult (almost 20), I have learned so much more about the series that I never have before. I was aware of the novels, but not what was in them. I knew the notebook inspired MOTHER 3, but never how much. I very much enjoyed this video as it gave me more knowledge to my favorite game franchise. I watched your first dark aspects not too long ago and wow, you are an incredible creator to have given that amount of time and energy into that project. Because of you, memories of the series came back to me and all the knowledge I knew resurfaced with new ones. Thank you again for that! It was also really cool hearing and seeing more of Earthbound/MOTHER 64! Never knew any of that! Again, thank you for giving me and many others this cool information, means a lot! My younger self thanks you too!

    @wumpus976 Год назад +24

    This is how I imagine a Mother 3 novelization could work.
    Given the quantum rift mentioned at the end of Mother 2’s novelization, the Porky in Mother 3 would be an alternate dimension version of the one seen at the end of another 2. This version was a Minch and stayed one, and never got a happy ending.

    • @ThaneGaming
      @ThaneGaming  Год назад +10

      That's a very good idea. I think Mother 3 would work quite well as a novel--I'd be most interested in seeing the perspective shifts for each chapter, and getting POV from the Masked Man during the later chapters (since Kumi has expressed wanting to explore his story). Porky is my favorite villain in anything ever, so the idea of a split where he actually gets a happy ending and one where he remains "the most trouble-making boy ever" is very appealing to me. His obsession with Ness could really be played up in this theoretical novel, too...

  • @SomaCoreaix
    @SomaCoreaix Год назад +10

    I hereby start a petition for Thane to do a Let's Play and/or Let's Stream the 3 Mother games. Your personal experiences in commentary would be fantastic 👌

    • @ThaneGaming
      @ThaneGaming  Год назад +4

      I've been back & forth over this idea throughout the years! A Let's Play in the vein of Chuggaconroy would be more my style, though that would take a lot of work in and of itself. I would likely have to pause my usual content, so it would have to be done on a channel "break". I did my first livestream a few months ago on MapleMoriko's channel and it was a good time, but I got so anxious before and after that I'm not sure I'd be able to do it regularly 😅 I'm talking, not being able to sleep at all anxious (even though it totally went well)!

      It sure is! I've read those books twice now--they are quite the shock and if you can believe it, there's actually a lot more explicit content in there I didn't talk about because then this video would be restricted 😅 not everyone can stomach it, but if you can the story itself is very, very good. Fun Maine Fact here! I'm amused because L/A does exist in Maine; it's shorthand for the twin cities Lewiston and Auburn, between Maine's capital Augusta and its largest city, Portland. What's interesting is that the interstate - I95 - didn't exist until the 1950s.
