    John, what is the idea behind the water-spraying log piles? Keep them from checking?

      Good question, I have never seen that done in all the log yards I have been to.

      I'm guessing that some logs dry to quick or uneven in the sun which can lead to splits and the water is to keep the humidity in the wood to give it a chance to dry slowly and even over time (without splitting because a split damages the value of the log).
