Had a .380 stolen from my vehicle in 1996 in Arizona, had a list of all my firearms along with make model ssn and a description (wood stock , blued finish etc.) just in case. I immediately reported it stolen so I wouldn't be liable if it was used in a crime. Nearly two years later I get a call from the local Sheriff's department telling me they recovered my firearm during a traffic stop. I was glad to get it back, lesson learned.
Glad you got it back!
As someone who has worked 2nd and 3rd shift, I can tell you that, at some point, 3AM becomes a normal "just got off work" time, especially for stopping for gas. I get that there are bad places to be and bad times to be there, but the other perspective is that, for this person, it may have been a completely normal time of day.
Get gas earlier.
@@mi5veezee why? I shouldn’t have to go out of my way. I can go get gas when i get off if i need to, of course I don’t leave my gun in my car like that
Usually weird to blame the victim. The perp went way out of his way to jack the car. And perp would still have to expend effort to misuse the gun. Everything is the fault of the perp. If not for the perps we could leave stuff in cars so they should be punished additionally for our inconvenience.
Now a Premium Member 100% Thanks for the recommendation.
Laws like the one in Michigan that makes you a criminal if someone steals your gun out of an unlocked car only work to prevent people from reporting it stolen. It’s dumb and reckless to leave your vehicle unlocked, but that law is also a bad law.
Agreed.
I had a gun stolen out of my house while I was on deployment in the Navy. It got reported stolen, and recovered by San Diego PD while I was still on deployment. It got returned to me the day I PCS’d to the east coast.
Damnnnnnnnn. Good information 👍👍👍👍
Legal implications aside, I wouldn't want the moral implications of someone stealing my firearm and using it to hurt someone.
Amen.
Yes. This is why I hate, hate, hate having to leave a firearm in the car even for a minute. I just don't know what else to do when I have to go into the Post Office or IRS though. ( PO I would likely never be detected if I carried in despite the law, but IRS is pretty strict about no weapons and they have some pretty anal security people as well as IIRC metal detectors. )
If you carry everywhere, there are inevitably going to be times when you're required to leave your gun in your car, like when going into government buildings. The way to keep it safe is to take the barrel out and take that with you. Then if it's stolen, it's at least inoperable.
Smart.
Yeah, that's a good idea!
They should have mentioned this in the video
Just be careful doing this as it increases your administrative handling of a loaded firearm (unloading and disassembling) in your car. Statistically, it increases the chances of a negligent discharge, which will get you in a lot of trouble. Also, government buildings with metal detectors will leave you answering a lot of questions about why you have a gun part on you. Yea, it’s easy to explain, but the officer doesn’t see you as a good person automatically. You’ll probably be searched for the rest of the gun.
@@PS-rr2jt I was going to make the same point. I would expect to be searched pretty thoroughly for the rest of the gun. Maybe disassemble the gun and leave in different locations of the car? Maybe they only get part of it that way.
I have a storage box hidden in my vehicles, I stop a block or so away from where I park, secure it and then drive to where I'm parking.
Lock your dang doors!
I love the thumbs down Jhon gives when the other guy said if you live in a state where you have to register your gun 🤣. Agreed Jhon agreed 👍
I think another huge thing that wasn’t talked about is people brandishing on social media and or letting every single person they talk to know that they have lots of guns and where they are. That’s just begging for someone to come rob you. Never flash things that are worth street value.
I think you’re 100% right.
Question John, how do you feel about shoulder holsters. I've purchased a Bianchi agent x and it is absolutely the most comfortable holster I own and it most assuredly meets all the requirements of a good holster. Just looking for your opinion. Thanks for all the great videos, I've learned soooo much. Keep up the good work.
Not a fan because of safety issues.
You have to report it stolen in Ohio. If it gets used for something after it was stolen and it didn't get reported, you automatically get 5 years
Wow!
I had a firearm stolen out of my truck once. I reported it as soon as possible. Police took a report and I gave them the serial number and that was basically it. Leaving it in my vehicle wasn’t something I usually did.
That back lighting makes it feel like I'm in an interrogation. Lol
Yeah the lighting royally stunk but it was all we had available.
@@ASPextra It's all good man. I love the content.
What would your advice be to those of us who can't bring our firearms on us inside our workplace but we are allowed to keep them in our vehicle and since most people work 5+ days a week it seems the options are keep it in the car or don't carry at all
Make sure you have a safe in your car and bolted to the car itself.
@@ASPextra Thank you for the thoughtful response I appreciate it sir
And relate that it was in a locked box
When you’re so early it’s only one comment before yours
Do NOT leave your gun in a hotel room. Or anything you don’t want stolen for that matter. Housekeepers don’t exactly make money hand over fist. If they see something they like, they’ll take it.
Only thing is I would hate to have to report a stolen firearm to police if that firearm was acquired through private purchase or inheritance and is not even linked to me on a 4473, let alone registered. I'd prefer to keep it that way.
I would prefer to keep it that way too! Obviously, though, if it gets stolen then you are obligated to report it.
I have a lock box tethered to my frame under my seat and I lock my door with an alarm cause I'd rather get my gun stolen than catch a felony carrying in the post office.
@@papimaximus95 It looks like that was challenged in 2013 and a federal judge ruled it to be acceptable to have a weapon in the parking lot (www.cnn.com/2013/07/11/us/guns-post-office/). I carry my weapon and put it in my locked glove box in my locked car when I have to go in to the post office. There's really no other choice than to find somewhere to park that is off of the post office property.
One condoms two beer😂
Are you liable if someone uses your stolen car to kill someone? Of course not. Obviously should be same for other tools such as guns. Obviously the problem is the criminal misusing the tool he recklessly stole.
🔫
Why would you *Not* lock your car doors? Even if there isn't a gun in the car, there is The car, your registration of the car which may have personal information like your address and anything you left in the car. It's like not locking the door to your house, I just don't understand.
It amazes me the number of people who don't lock their doors!!!
New Hampshire does not require firearm owners to report the loss or theft of a firearm.
Huh. I thought you were more a boxers guy, not a briefs guy
First comment
If your firearm is stolen, chances are your now stolen firearm WILL be used in a crime, possibly a violent crime. Report it stolen and don’t buy anymore.
Yea.... let's just give up our rights because someone stole my gun..... Don't buy anymore?!! SMH
@@tonyborck3169 listen here dumbass, if your irresponsible enough with a firearm to allow it to be stolen you have ZERO right owning one, you’re just helping and assisting criminals get their hands on a firearm out of weakness. Has nothing to do with rights. Moron.
