  • Part 1 of 1(it died) of my Hydro-Gel grow series. Planting a Jalapeno seedling in Water Retaining Crystals.
Water crystals are tiny super-absorbent polymers (a long chain that’s made up of identical repeating molecules), about the size of a sugar crystal. They are added to potting mix or added to soil in a garden bed to increase the water holding capacity of the soil.
I am trying to grow a #Jalapeno plant in Hydrogel. Soilless hydroponics similar to coco coir

Thank you! I am working on an update. I'm also making more complete videos(seed to harvest) so there is less cliffhanger-type feels to the videos. Watch out for the Giant Pumpkin video around september!

Hydrogel is of course not a SUBSTRATE!
Hydrogel is introduced into the substrate (soil) before planting and when watered with water in which fertilizer is mixed, the liquid is absorbed by the hydrogel and the plant has access to water and nutrients all the time without stress when there is too much water and too little over time. The war is much better and the harvest much more plentiful. The hydrogel is biodegradable and stays in the soil for up to eight years. It then decomposes. Not harmful to the environment! yes, this is why i layered the hydrogel with hydroton. This was an experiment. Thanks for checking it out!

What if you use orbeez in place of hydrogel?

Orbeez will break down after about a year and will leech out toxins, killing your plants

Pepper plant died after a week or two with no new growth. also tried to sprout a kidney bean(no-go) and planted another pepper seedling into it. I guess on it's own, these are not a great option as a media to grow in

terrible. the gel did not allow for any water uptake for the plant and it died after a week

I don't think this will work, meaning that you will not have a big plant and harvest fruit.
