- Tal Mitnick is a courageous 18-year-old Israeli citizen who was jailed after refusing to serve in the army - in protest at the war on Gaza, and the oppression of the Palestinian people.
Here he tells me absolutely shocking truths - but also explains why there is hope.

As Einstein said, it is insanity to try the same thing and expect a different result. Israel has tries killing and murdering and slow genocide for 75+ years. Maybe it is time they give peace a try!
If only the Palestinians, and all the others who dine at the snackbar, were conscientious objectors. What an improved place that the world would be.
@@Micklethorpe Yes, he did. Embrace the truth, stop denying it.
@@Micklethorpe Your radar needs recalibration, I'm an anti theist atheist.
The position I take on this conflict is the same one anyone who is well informed would take.
In all aspects of life I only believe what the facts and evidence actually supports.
@@Micklethorpe so when he said that he objects to war , and when he said prison isn’t so bad, and there are around 200 other conscious objectors and Hamas won’t bring peace and Palestinians are actually humans and most Israelis are just scared about their survival and that’s why they want kill everyone In Gaza and the West Bank and all Arabs , and killing so many Palestinian babies makes him sad , and he just wants to live in peace in Israel with everyone else, when he said all that he was lying?
How is that possible and why would he lie , it makes absolutely no sense at all (he’s opinions are his own, having an opinion isn’t lying)
This young man has more humanity than all government leaders of the world combined
YES HE HAS !!!
Indeed! Our world is being brutalized by a bunch of wicked "leaders" at this moment in history.
AMEN..🙏🙏🙏🕎🕎☦️☦️☪️☪️💯💯
Absolutely!
Well said
A true Patriot holds their country accountable.
Israeli here, I completely agree. Dura lex, sed lex. Israel has become a tribal society, no regard for the law nor the institutions. I am afried that European societies are doomed to collapse in similar fashion
If you being told you re not patriotic, you are under a dictatorship.
True, but "israel" is an occupation that is recognized as a country, despite being a belligerent occupation of the country (palestine).
yes! and does the work to make it the BEST country it can be!!!
civilized humanity... That's what we need against political madness
I am South African. I grew up during apartheid and started working then as well. My boss back in the day together with a group of his friends dropped out of school and fled South Africa between the ages of 15 and 16 as they refused to serve their compulsory military conscription in the "defense" force. To this day, I have not met anyone in person more nobler than him.
Rest in peace Dearest of men.
Young man, you brought tears to my eyes. Stand your ground. You are made of the best stuff this world can produce and are a credit to humanity. Thank you.
I am glad for him. I am also South African 🇿🇦
@@meetings3071 Me too. He has been my teacher and my best friend.
Thank you fellow South African. ♥️
@@ravenblack7052 I went to a multiracial private school under the days of Apartheid. One of the stranger things one of the teachers told us was of 2 boys who matriculated and the White student was conscripted into the army and the Black went home to a township. They encountered each other at a political demonstration, with the White student in military riot squad gear, and stopped, greeted, and chatted to each other, in the middle of the protest, and then parted company. _Surreal._ I still remember that incident from about 30 years ago.
Yes he is! 🙏🙌🏼
The moral clarity and courage of this 18 year old Israeli kid is beyond incredible! As is his maturity and thoughtful, non-violent stance. And even more so when you consider not only his age but, as he acknowledges, the fact that young people in Israel are usually more militaristic, racist and supremacist than their parents already were. He deserves the world’s admiration, gratitude and support.
Absolutely! 🙏🏼
The first person who refuses to serve as a soldier in this situation, who doesn't go along with the hysteria and the call for revenge, retaliation and destruction of the people in Gaza, who lets his conscience, his soul speak and says: "I'm not taking part in this", that's extraordinary!
I bow to you, your humanity! Thank you very much, I wish you lots of strength and happiness! Thanks.
What a beautiful person you are, Tal Mitnick, simply wonderful. ❤ May you be protected on your path. 🙏Thank you for your powerful example, for your powerful action, "just" to say: I refuse! I don't take part. I think you are in a beautiful, courageous row of people like e.g.: Ofer Cassif, Miko Peled, Maoz Inon, Gabor Mate, Hanan Ashwari, Diana Buttu, Marione Ingram, Craig Mokhiber, Abby Martin, Francesca Albanese, Noam Chomsky, Ilan Pappe, Mustafa Barghouti, Moshe Machover, Katie Halper, Ariel Bernstein etc 👏 ✌🏾
Yes, he and others like him, young and old, are Israel's finest.
I want to thank some more people, they all stood up for the Palestinians and human rights for all e.g.: Amy Goodman, Jonathan Cook, Refaat Alareer, Yumna Patel, Wael Al Dahdouh, Mohamad Safa, Rania Khalek, Fadi Abu Shammalah, Mouin Rabbani, NourJaghama, Jackson Hinkle, Clare Daly, Max Blumenthal, Frank Barat, Munther Isaac, Marc Lamont Hill, Norman Finkelstein, Craig Murray, Vusi Madonsela, Adila Hassim, David Hearst, Blinne Ni Ghralaigh, Petra Wild, Felicia Langer, Adila Hassim, Afshin Rattansi, Joe Sacco, Chris Hedges, Arnaud Bertrand, Owen Jones, Matt Kennard, Lowkey, AMLO, Michael Plitnick, Asa Winstanley, Marwan Bishara, etc. Thank you all around the world for your Solidarity Demonstrations! We are many! Thank you all and many more! Keep up the fight for a free Palestine! Take care! Ceasefire Now! Stopp the Genocide! ❤🇵🇸
So brave,so kind, and so understanding - who would not respect Tal! A great lad! Courage, young friend!
Thank you, Tal. You are to be commended.
Kudos to this young man for defying indoctrination despite the intense pressure imposed by the IDF's mandatory 32-month program for all 18-year-old Israelis.
Indeed 👍
Definitely. I watched a video on here a couple of years back and people in Tel Aviv were being interviewed and nothing in this world usually shocks me but they were saying all Palestinians should be carpet bombed and the reporter asked "even the children?" and they replied "yes, they will grow up".
This gives me hope.
Conscientous objectors are about the only Israeli I respect. Even "leftists" who then go on to serve in the military and live in Kibutzim that are part of Gaza's prison enclosure I can't respect. I wish this brave young man the best.
When were you last in Israel?
@@HowardRose-b2c Nobody needs to be there to know the ugly history.
There is a need to draw a distinction between people born there and the ones who move as adults. We cannot help where we are born and even if there were past injustices, it is a lot to ask of someone to not have attachment to the place of their birth.
@@ukcryptolondonbased2953 We are not just talking about past injustices, the vast majority of society there are for current injustices which is really putting it mildly.
I don't think Israelis are particularly worried about being respected by you. It's much better to succeed and be envied than to fail and be pitied.
What an amazing young man! So many people all over the world are standing right next to him. Sending Tal love and protection.
what i absolutely appreciate about him, is that he still understands that he still has priviledges in prison. he understands and recognizes that he will never be treated as heinous as the Palestinian prisoners. respect.
I’m amazed at the level and quality of guests you get on here. Tal is an amazing young man.
Calling someone a young man has just made me feel really old.
@@drbowater Don't worry young man, you're not old.
@@mxewris2355 thank you lol

I look forward to the day when Mr Mitnick is elected Prime Minister of Israel: a land shared lovingly by all its citizens ❤
That won't be possible in his lifetime given how far right as the electorate is.
I'll vote for that! 🙏🕊️🌎❤️
he is the only guy i would accept as israeli PM without objection
@@royaneekhalil6488 Are you Palestinian by any chance?
More likely that he will end up a New Zealander or Australian and go into politics there.
This kid has balls the size of watermelons.
I hope he gets all the support he needs
Watermelons was absolutely the best comparison possible. Well done, sir.
I think you will find he has no balls.👍

This young man has more common sense, compassion, empathy, and integrity in his pinky than the entire IDF. Praying and hoping that he represents the future of Israelis. 🙏
Courageous young man. Stood up to the bullies. Stay strong, my friend.
Respect to this brave young man of integrity, and compassion. Edit* He highlights the shame british citizens should feel who have gone to Israel to fight in the IDF voluntarily. Murderous monsters.
Wise beyond his years. It gives me great hope
A wonderful person, wise beyond his years . A beacon of hope for the future,
I wish I had your courage Tal, I live Canada and even here I am weary of sharing my criticism of Israel, you courage is inspiring!
From a Palestinian living in the U.S., I solute your courage. 👏
❤
Stay strong ... even if I'm Pakistani but my heart is Palestinian 💪🏼 🇵🇸😭🤲🏻📿🫒
I hope and Pray Tal Mitnick doesn't get into trouble after this. Thanks for opening up with Owen Jones and Thank you Owen Jones for your amazing work. I hope this unwanted violence ends soon.
A very rare individual eho has stood by his moral compass rather than following the madness which is underway in Israel. I salute your strength and sdmire your conviction young man for standing up for whats right in the face of such adversity.
What a wonderful, brave young man. His parents must be very proud of him.
*For his age, Tal Mitnick is a rare and wise voice in Israel.*
Absolute respect! It's extremely hard to go against the masses, but a minimus incitpe-start from small beginnings. Your conscience is all you have at the end of the day.
Tal is brave and has his moral compass right to see the rights and wrong, great interview.
@@srsmopar3808 Maybe a fool, although I would disagree with your fatuous claim, but at least he will be able to live the rest of his life knowing he chose his moral conscience over an easy path.
I would also bet he will be regarded more highly, by more people, than Netanyahu, in the future!
Amen brother Tal Mitnick! Thank you for giving us hope and hope we can help you stay hopeful.
Tal, thank you for giving us some hope.
Tal Mitnick. Well done young man. An inspiration for us all.
Heroic strength of this young man!!! Always keep fighting for peace!
Wow, your parents should be proud, im so glad humanity wins with him. He chooses nonviolence
Just watched his interview on democracy now, and I am stricken with admiration for his bravery
Thanks for your efforts to support our brother's in Palestine
very brave young man he deserves to do well, lets hope he goes into politics
He is very brave
Tal is the man. Anyone who can stand pressure is the real man and leader.
Tal Mitnick is just eighteen years old. But the thoughtfulness with which he responds to questions, how deliberate he is with his answers, is beyond what most adults do. There's a depth to him. There's no denying his wisdom. I cannot fathom how scary it must be to stand apart from his own community; the immense pressure he must feel to conform. He is an outstanding example of courage. I wish him the very best in his struggle.
This brave and kind boy is a symbol of hope for the future.
What a remarkable courageous young man. Thank you for the bravery you have endured, which I'm sure has not been easy. You have made a moral stand and are to be applauded for this ❤
Moral clarity and maturity beyond his years.
So much respect for this young man, immensely more mature, analytical and compassionate than most adults
With young people like Tal Mitnick around there is still hope know matter how small that hope is.
Thanks for your continued coverage, Owen

Amazing human being ❤ for first time I feel hopeful seeing these young, brave and wise Israelis
a brave & truthful young man speaking against genocide.
Bravo Tal! You are doing the right thing and I wish you continued strength and courage to stand up against violence, oppression and bigotry.
Respect to you Tal and Owen for standing up to the truth.
Very respectable and admirable stance from this courageous young man
Tal Mitnik shows us all what superior human moral values are. He's young but already a morally fully formed man. I wish him the strength of perseverance against the misguided forces which will try to knoock him off course. I used the word superior deliberately because the colonial west and now Israel have tried to put across to the rest of the world their supposed superiority. They do not realise that the only way one can be superior in this life is to live by superior moral values. Genocide and ethnic cleansing are not that.
unfortunately there is no such choice to make in the west. how can we object to a process of industrial scale, that is, the continued funding and armament of Israel without the explicit consent of the taxpayers ?
Excellent words.
If I was a palestinian Tal would be a person who I'd like to have as a neighbour. Sharing one country with people like him is just a pleasure.
Thank you Owen and Tal for your struggle for justice. May humanity learn from you...
Utterly Owen - this courageous young man deserves the utmost respect. All power to you Tal from Aotearoa NZ.
He is a really brave young man. A person who is truly against w@r and bloodshed. In actions , not just words
So thankful for Tal and his speaking up and taking a stand for humanity and peace! I only hope that enough other young Israelis follow his lead.
A giant among the feeble minded. I hope we get to hear him again
Hey Tal 👋
Love from Ireland ❣ 🇮🇪
Brave young man. Makes me feel there is hope in humanity ❤
Very articulate young man. I wonder about one comment he has said several times. "Systems corrupt people ". But systems are created by people, they don't exist on their own. People are responsible.
How can a reasonable person doesn’t come to the conclusion of returning Palestine to its righteous owners of Palestinians before there nakba 1948 ? Anything short of that is immoral
What an absolutely wonderful and intelligent young man. It’s truly difficult to stand up and hold your country and people accountable, many don’t. Thank you Tal, from someone who was traumatised by the Israeli invasion of the Lebanese south, and grew up with the understanding that no Israeli will sympathise with the us or the plight of the Palestinians
bless you for sharing that. May Lebanon, Palestine, all who tell truths also be free. May you too. Thank you.
Very brave, gives us hope for the future.
Tal, you are truly an example for your generation and beyond. Thank you so much for your courage and conviction. Be well.
Respect for this young man's courage!
This man may have single-handedly restored my faith in humanity xD great interview!!
Much love @ Tal from Cape Town. You are a brave young man!
Great work, Owen, glad to see you have this young man a platform! Hearing the “moderate” position he described is terrifying, but we must have “optimism of the will” in any case. Love and solidarity!
Where are the other brave ones like him, such courageous and a role model for his generation. ❤❤❤
We must not be silent while witnessing injustice. Israel is committing war crimes and the US is complicit in those crimes

You're in awe, I'm in total awe of this young man, he is brilliant, so well considered in his answers. I wish all well and stay strong. DO NOT let the military beat you down. Soldier is so dehumanising. I think I'd respond with corporal, captain or whatever and dehumanise my captors.

Thanks so much Tal. You’re a reason to hope in a world where that’s desperately hard to find.
Such important work, Owen Jones 😢 inconceivable attitude that being a murderous regime is a way to wake up in the morning and face your day. Frightening. I'd rather be dead.

I've seen Tal speak on a handful of channels now over the past few months (well, probably about a month ago, and then again today), and he gives me hope for Israeli society with his courage and his heart. I hope his message continues to be spread far and wide, and perhaps other people will be able to stop and really listen to him for a moment, and like he says, come to understand there *is* another way.
