The bigger message of this isn't to our government, but to the people of the US. It's showing that our government is bent over backwards for him, and aren't going to do anything. It's a shame Mattis is leaving, but I suppose nobody wants to run a shitshow.
Oh, and for proof, "Similarly, I believe we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach to those countries whose strategic interests are increasingly in tension with ours. It is clear that China and Russia, for example, want to shape a world consistent with their authoritarian model - gaining veto authority over other nations' economic, diplomatic, and security decisions - to promote their own interests at the expense of their neighbors, America and our allies. That is why we must use all the tools of American power to provide for the common defense... Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position." no ones saying that. and Russia in south america is new.
Currently there is a trearty in the americas called the Rio Treaty. also called the hemisphere defense treaty. a war on one is war on us all.
for example. Russia invades through Alaska. ALL of South America declares war on Russia. The only countries that are not part of this treaty are Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexica (cuz NATO and other trade and friendly treaties), and Venezuela.
meaning 17 other countries, including the US is in the treaty.
so you dont declare war on just one country. you declare war on us ALL.
yes itll cause a chain reaction. if Chile is invaded by russia. the US declares war as part of the treaty. and then NATO gets involved as well.
with these selected countries alone represents 754,901,942 citizens. about 326million being US... but thats still alot of man power.

The Russians clearly don't need to be in Venezuela to strike anywhere in the U.S. at any time. So, nothing more than a show of force. CNN's hysteria and hostility towards anything Russia does is well documented.

@Ludwig Nickles the biggest problems with the american policy are that many many people ( especially middle eastern people) have a very very bad image of america, and are even going so far that they favor china. and support china. China uses this by proposing multi billion / trillion dollar investments in those countries. Just look up belt and road strategy china. They played it the smart way. But they must be stopped

You have to love how when we are threatening to put our weapons and troops on Russia's borders, we dismiss Russia's concerns as ridiculous. But two Russian bombers in Venezuela is a freak out moment for the US. I also seem to remember the US threatening nuclear war when this happened in the 60s with Cuba.

Since the year 2000 there has been 11 new members of NATO,
If Russia gained the same number of allies we would be concerned as well.

Cuba were striking a deal to let Russia put nuclear missiles in Cuba aswell.. Did you forget that part? I don't remember the US invading Cuba and killing innocent civilians in the process.

The rift with Russians in Cuba was because the USA had put nukes in Europe, Spain I believe, do Russians said unless USA pulls out nukes from Spain Russian put in Cuba.
USA agreed snd took out nukes.
Russia pulled back from putting nukes from Cuba. Do the USA need propaganda did not tell you the whole story just their phoney side to make it look like the USA was the winner.

@@josef-peterroemer6235 it was to get US missles out of Turkey, yes I remember. That still does not change the fact that the US pushed the world to the brink of war before agreeing to a compromise in secret so they could look like they won.

I'm Russian and I'm amazed at Palki Sharma knowledge. For the first time I see an unbiased report like a true journalism should be instead of cancel culture in USA. Couple things to add to that report: Russia asked NATO to join and was denied. Another important thing not many people know: Ukraine was bombing and shelling Donetsk and Lugansk regions since 2014 for 8 years! Killing hundreds of children and snipers shooting women with infant babies on their hands. A genocide of Russian people living in eastern Ukraine. Done by neonazis that were promoted and cherished by west and Zelensky. That same Zelensky who is now praised as a brave president by their mass media non stop 24/7. The same man responsible for thousands of death (more than 13000 people died for 8 years of genocide). Unimaginable hypocrisy from the west
