    You are actually my hero. I’m in post bacc taking my last few prerequisites for pa school. I don’t have the strongest gpa but your stats and videos have been so motivating. It’s awesome to see women of color in the medical field doing what they love. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, I hope to have the same opportunity one day!

    This video was incredibly helpful so thanks so much! I wanted to become a surgical PA but people always tell me to become a doctor instead. I’m not really prepared (mentally and financially lol) to go to a Med school for 4 years that’s why I chose to become a PA. I’m so glad I clicked on your vid and found out you’re a surgical PA right off the bat since I can’t seem to find anyone else on RUclips 💖💖

    Would you encorage people to work as a nurse before even going to PA school . I was thinking of working for 2-3 years as a nurse before going to PA school. This way i have some money and some experience. If i get a job in a hospital while im in college i might cut those years short.

    • @itsKendraLynne
      @itsKendraLynne  6 лет назад +12

      If you want to be a nurse first, then I would recommend becoming a Nurse Practitioner first. You can work while going to school for NP.
      If you want to be a PA, I would work as say a medical assistant, scribe, CNA, EMT, etc :)

      Nursing undergrad is great because 1) you stand out when applying 2) Its the only undergrad major that gives u a background in medicine with clinicals (so you'll be more prepared when starting PA school). 3) You'll have something to always to fall back on.

    I am a radiologic technologist. I got my associates degree this year and started working a month ago. I am doing online classes to get my bachelors. Do you think about two to three years of working as a radiologic technologist is good before starting PA school? Do you think my radiology background would benfit me in some way? It involves a lot of patient contact along with the whole medical imaging aspect and interpretation. I am not sure if I want to become a RRA/RPA (basically a radiologist physican assistant) or general PA?

      insert creative name here tbh it's a very entry level position. I say go volunteer a bit. Get some entry level positions whether it be a fast food clerk. Get your certs if necessary for the career. And you'll have a high chance of getting it...as with every medical profession you have to show service for the public and some form of helping people

    Hello! Do every get patients that you feel don't trust you because you're a PA? I.E. They don't respect you/would rather see a MD? Also, do PAs get to provide nutrition information? Or do you refer to RDs? I'm more interested in nutrition (Masters level) but the PA salary is so much more.

    • @itsKendraLynne
      @itsKendraLynne  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, I get that every now and then. But everyone has their preferences and I am not against them. PAs don't really provide nutrition information. If nutrition is something you love, then pursue that and the money will come as you realize your ambitions with it :)

      I believe when you really, truly want something and you focus your attention towards it and you're striving to get there, things tend to fall in line. So if you were putting off getting hours or thing you won't make it, change your mindset first. That's always the first and most important step. KNOW you will get into PA school, and when you do, you will find yourself pushing yourself harder and the universe will notice :)

    I had a bad arm accident from jujitsu practice and went to see a orthopedic. The PA saw me first then the doctor. The doctor tells me the exact same thing as the PA. So my question is, what's the point of an orthopedic PA if the doctor is going to have to redo everything the PA did.

    • @Rinsuki
      @Rinsuki 6 лет назад +1

      Well, the doctor has more schooling and the authority to sign off on certain procedures and things. A physician assistant can do similar things, but they work under the doctor. This by no means mean that a PA can't know more than a doctor about a particular subject. An experience PA versus an inexperienced doctor. A PA takes some of the load of a doctor to increase the quality care a patient may receive. Sometimes if there's enough trust and the PA is good, the doctor may just confirm with what the PA has found. They just chose different paths of credentials basically.

    Unfortunately people are only fixated on the fiscal qualities of jobs and professions. If you have zero to little enjoyment in your career then your job will always feel like just a job and not something you enjoy doing while making money simultaneously.

    Do you know of any PAs that only work 3-4 days a week at 12 hour shifts? I know this is a common schedule plan for Respiratory therapists and maybe Nurses(?)

      My friend is an ER PA and works a schedule like that. He even has time to do real estate on the side, though it probably doesn't help his stress levels...lol

    • @ayan9202
      @ayan9202 5 лет назад +1

      Monica Lewinsky she did say she works in dermatology and pas who specialize in dermatology are some of the highest paid pas due to the fact that a lot of the procedures they do are paid out of pocket and no by insurance. She also said the she is a surgical pa and they do make more then normal pas so I would assume for sure above 100k and maybe even somewhere around 120k.

      Crystal Egg I’m guessing she went to college at 18 and grad.d at 24. So maybe 6 years total. 4 years bachelors and 2 yrs pa school. That’s not bad at all compared to many medical professions if that is true.
