      Yeah if she returned she would have been either killed or put in a concentration camp. If the NK government found out about her leaving, which they probably did if she was in a higher class, her family is already in those camps or dead. It's called group guilt and 3-8 generations of family end up put in the camps for crimes like leaving.

      Believe it or if north koreans were granted a few days in south korea and asked if they wanted to stay many of them wouldn't because they are so used to a cold and dark lifestyle they wouldn't be able to handle thinks in a normal fast paced country, and they also probably wouldn't know what to do with their freedom as almost all of them lived with such a strict rules their entire lifes

      Well are you really surprised? Going from a state that literally did everything and decided for things you, never having to worry about money or your job, to an absolutely ruthless capitalist society such as sth. Korea. where you are free and you have to decide by yourself for everything, which is panicking, even for people living in countries like that since birth.
      I would have went back. It would take immense strenght to adapt like that, and life definitely wasnt so bad especially for her back there.

      @Witty Witty Sure it could be seen as selfish, but North Korea is a depressing, dark and harsh country. It would be better for a person to leave a country like that to live a better life rather than staying, even if it meant they’d have to leave their friends and family.

    Nara's story is quite interesting. Her story is different because she left North Korea, not because she was hungry or poor. Her family lived well but she left because she wanted freedom. Her mother already lived in China and later in South Korea and asked her several times if she didn't want to join her. Her father and brother decided to stay. It's interesting to learn a story with a different view of the life there. I really like to watch her interviews.

      @@pink-cow she gets south Korean citizenship by default after escaping from the north. + The language barrier & food culture is not that big so it's easier to adapt for them.
      Why TF would she leave all that and go to the usa where she would be looked at as a strange animal by everyone else around her? & How exactly is she supposed to go there lol.
      Also South Korea has pretty good healthcare & opportunities for her. I'd pick sk over usa too lol.

    • @alva--._..l-._.-l.._.--
      @alva--._..l-._.-l.._.-- Год назад +38

      @@pink-cow because South Korea conditions are way better. North Koreans are given a lot of help, studying and working opportunities and very good healthcare. She has more opportunities there, she doesn't need to learn a foreign language nor adapt to a foreign culture and their food. Besides, she'll be a foreigner in the USA, as in South Korea they are given citizenship. If North Koreans already struggle to adapt to South Korea, adapting to the USA is much more difficult. She would be returning to NK in no time and lose everything she aimed for herself. I would pick South Korea anytime than the USA.

      South korea has a policy of accepting each and every north korean who wants to escape, the only problem is getting there, as you probably know north koreans aren't allowed to leave the country without a special permission from the government and a very good reason to leave. You can't escape by land as the border with south korea is heavily protected and china is an ally to north korea and if you get caught in china they'll depart you back immediately and you can guess what would happen to you then

      My korean friends said in SK, people much colder before Gangnam style PSY trended over the world. after it's trending, the Government promotes hallyu waves to make Tourists/foreigners come to SK. Then it's better after BTS famous since 2017 until now. SK being so famous to travel destination, so people in there especially Seoul ppl changed a lil bit, they're not too cold, at least they try to humble to tourist or foreigner who visited there

While yes, this isn't as bad as her situation, in the video they never mentioned that she wanted to go back to North Korea because of her "family or friends". He simply mentioned that the cultural differences were what made her consider moving back to North Korea. It's also said that those who are wealthy in North Korea have more access to things like technology, making it a bit easier to get into contact with Nara. Plus, do you really think that the North Korean government doesn't know that Nara escaped? Even though the North Korean government can't do anything to Nara since she's legally living in South Korea now, her family still lives in North Korea which makes me think that they were affluent enough to where they wouldn't be punished for helping their daughter escape and be so public about it. This might be why her family isn't listed amongst the things that made her consider moving back.

It's definitely not the same as directly knowing people who defected but what I noticed is that most of them spoke about how they didn't feel entirely secure in China either. They said that if you get caught by the Chinese government, you are deported back to North Korea since they're diplomatic allies and that's why they also can't claim asylum in China. I can't even imagine not only the stress of living in North Korea but also of knowing that if you do escape, you have to go through a country with as much landmass as China until you can actually reach safety, knowing that your only way out is like that since there's no way of coming out alive through the DMZ.

    The most harrowing story I have heard to date of a North Korean defector was the story of Yeonmi Park. If you haven’t seen it, you should really check out her story. I read her story in 2017 from her book “In Order to Live.” And later, I ran across her interview with Dr. Peterson. Fair warning, though: much of what she described of her life in North Korea, and later in China, is hard to hear. But, it’s important to hear it, because it shows the depth of their corruption.

    • @pattiannepascual

      I have been subscribed to yeonmi park channel for a long time.i can't write here what should happen to North Korea de-vil leader.
      Another good channel is Yoel and Mari, their earlier videos show what Yoel went through coming here from Cuba.Horrible.
      Every moron American who support socialism and call themselves "communists", should be locked in a threatre and forced to watch socialist country videos, so they know what it is they are actually supporting.
      They have no clue whatsoever.
      Why they don't just move to a commie country if they like it so much???
      Wish we could deport them to north korea.

    • @vyrtilanyrwen3071
      @vyrtilanyrwen3071 Год назад +3

      @@pattiannepascual , I agree with you. Sadly, though, I don’t think that having people like that watch the havoc socialism wreaks would help much. Most people here in the states that support socialism will respond with, “Well, that isn’t real socialism,” when you bring up Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, North Korea, Venezuela, or many other socialist countries. In fact, they would claim that true socialism has never been tried.
      Dr. Jordan Peterson, if you’re familiar with that name, has in the past said that he’s thought long and hard about what it really means when people say, “It isn’t real socialism.” The reason he gave is one of arrogance. Those who say this really mean that they know the doctrine of socialism better than anyone else. They really mean that if they were in Lenin’s place, they could’ve ushered in the utopia and staved off the genocide. I tend to agree with Peterson’s assessment of this statement. To say that it isn’t real socialism is to say that you’re more virtuous than everyone else, and you know how socialism really works. Those who say this need to think again, because arrogance and ignorance has clouded their judgement.
      So, while I agree with you that socialism, and indeed any form of Marxism, is horrible, and while I agree that it has ushered in great evil and government exploitation of people, and while I agree that it completely misunderstands human nature, I sadly do not think there is any fixing the stupidity of those who support this.

      if they didn't kill them, and "jail" there,means hard labor camp, where they starve you,and work you literally to death

    Pretty sure by leaving NK she doomed her family and friends to imprisonment and/or being socially downcast. It's horrible but that's how they keep people from trying to leave
