Will it Start!? Barn Find 1980 Yamaha XT500!

- So quite a while ago my brother told me his neighbor had an old bike stuffed in the back of a barn. I managed to sneak a peak at it at one point, but wasn't sure I wanted to pick it up.
It festered in the back of my mind for a whole year. They were in and out of town, our paths just never seemed to be able to cross, until... FINALLY... I was able to go back and make a deal!
Hauled it home on the hitch carrier, and after a few basic checks, gave it the old boot. What do you think? Not bad for a barn find!?

I have the same one great motorcycle. We're sitting for a couple months one Kick start up
This one isn't quite there yet... Takes a few kicks but then I don't hardly ever ride it, it's mostly just garage art.
Found a 1981 in 2000, was supposed to be seized, but turned out to be the stator rusted to the rotor. Had 1100 km and started first kick after a carb clean. Same bike as this, but in immaculate condition, had points not CDI, was used only in 1981 and was probably cheaper at CDM $ 200 (US $140) Sold for significantly higher 15 years later.

Yer to tall … blue smoke gotta refresh the oil … oil filter … prolly clean the carb … and clean the whole bike … Still feeling sorry I sold mine 😎🇺🇸✌🏽

@@RustyPhoenixMotors I’m definitely interested. I watched your videos, but can you tell me anything more about the oil burning and overall running condition of the bike?
The oil burning cleaned up after a few minutes of running. It did it again after it sat for a couple of months- usually a symptom of dried out valve stem seals. Mostly just annoying, and only noticeable if the bike has sat for a while before starting. Seems to run well, although will likely need a carb clean and a tuneup.
