7de Laan bids farewell to SA audiences after 23 years: Ingrid Paulus, Zak Hendrikz & David Makubyane

- After 23 years of storytelling, the 7de Laan community of actors and its entire crew will be saying goodbye to the Mzansi audiences. The long-running SABC television soapie, which made its debut on SABC 2 in April 2000, will not be recommissioned for another season.
After 24 seasons of a TV series that focused on the lives of residents in and around the community of 7de Laan in the suburb of Hillside, 7de Laan will be airing its final episode on the 26th of December. The show brought to life much-loved characters such as Oubaas, Hilda, Charmaine, Aggie, Emma, and the Meintjies family, who all became household names. We are now joined by two of the actors, Ingrid Paulus - who plays Vanessa Mentjies - and Zak Hendrikz - who portrays Werner Visagie - as well SABC General Manager of Video Entertainment Platforms David Makubyane.

I hope that it's brought back. I moved to South Africa and learned Afrikaans because of this show. I've been watching old episodes to relearn Afrikaans again, so when I go back, I can speak Afrikaans again. Please bring this show back.

Believe it or not, but even kids on the Autism spectrum were watching it. My 16 year old son who attends a school for Autistic kids told me his friends are upset it's coming to an end. Just a heads-up to SABC: Do not make the mistake of thinking that whatever soapie you are planning to introduce to replace 7de Laan will be watched. Come December, your channel will be a thing of the past. 7de Laan was the only thing worth watching on SABC...Adieu 👋
Im tearing up listening to them getting emotional 😢. I got my husband & my mother into watching 7de Laan with me. My husband knows i don't like it if I've missed an episode😅,so he even downloaded Viu so i can catch up on episodes I've missed.

Does the viewing figures cover the viewers from open view as well? How do the advertisers feel about this, or have SABC considered them? When my wife and I watch SABC 2, it happens to only be 7de laan and the news. So this would mean that we would no longer be watching anything on SABC 2 in the future, or 1 or 3. Would that mean we would no longer be required to pay license any more?

Viewership will drop sir because there's daily load shedding too to be taken into account, we busy with housework, homework, and working from home at that time. However, loyal viewers like me do catch-up. I have watched this program since I was in school.😢

I’m from the UK and be some hooked on this programme after a holiday in SA 6 years ago. I continued for a long time to tune in until the episodes stopped being uploaded on RUclips about 18 months ago. Thank you to the kind people who used to upload regularly. So sorry this show has come to and end for South Africans too now😢.

This is incredibly sad news, my daughter got a distinction for Afrikaans in matric thanks to 7de laan. It is the best soapie on tv , the only one that I watch every day , as I don't have much time to watch tv . If it's not getting enough viewers because of other digital platforms showing it and taking most of the viewers then why doesn't SABC start their own separate digital platform where they show it and sone of their other shows and charge a monthly subscription?

7de Laan and skeem Saam were the only reason I was watching SABC. After the end of 7de Laan, I barely even watch skeem Saam cause the time slot was intergraded perfectly for me to watch them both. Now I don't even watch SABC or TV. I really don't know why my parents still pay for DSTV. There's literally nothing interesting.
