1970 TR6 - Part 31 - Transmission Switches Installation

- This car came without an overdrive, but John decide to install one. So he bought a rebuilt transmission and we installed it long time ago, but it turns out that it doesn't have a reverse switch installed. So it probably comes out of a TR4, but that doesn't matter, we can drill, tap and install the switch ourselves.

First one here! Super exciting. In all seriousness I have a TR6 that is my dad’s that he drove away from his wedding in. It has sat out side for 30 years and is soon to he headed to my garage I am working on finishing. I hope to leave my wedding in it, but it is a big project and I totally understand not knowing where to start. Thanks for such great videos. It’s so good to hear you are super busy. May 2024 be your best year as well!

Ever noticed that the factory never 'centre' mark places where there are opinions of drilling to fit other accessories etc. Always took me longer to establish the 'centres' than doing the required job 😅.. Interesting to see you using 30wt oil in that gearbox, I use EP90 GL-4 gear oil in mine without problems, yes with J-type overdrive.

Merry Christmas Elin! Another very interesting video. There are many opinions on what lube to use for drilling into aluminum and for cutting threads. Everyone does agree that a lube is needed. Never cut or drill dry. Personally I would not use WD-40. You can make your own bottoming taps. Just cut the tapered part of the common starting taps just at where the taper ends. I find it works well. The jury is out also on what fluid to use in the transmission and OD. I always say use what the workshop manual says.
M Xmas - Can’t believe no dissembling the top cover, no drill press, no parts washer-only takes one missed metal drill shaving! I would be very unhappy if it were my car, maybe in the future you might not take a short cut.
Installation
Elin does that trans have the tiny vent hole for relieving internal oil pressure in the top cover? The vent hole on my TR6 was clogged and was causing oil to blow out of the trans after it had been driven.
You put two gaskets on? One on top and one on the bottom? Tom Merry Christmas!
