I really appreciate this video. Your gentleness and perserverance in trying to help this orchid is inspirational. It makes me wonder what would happen if more people applied this mentality to other people. If someone is unwell, rather than throwing them out of their lives as too much work, if we try to give them all they need (akin to rehydration) and time, perhaps they too will make full recoveries and all our lives will be the richer for it. I know I have little power to ask others to do this, but I will be trying this method on people who are emotionally hurt too where I can
This video came at the perfect time since I have an orchid in the same state as the one you highlighted at the beginning! I'm not familiar with the black tea method so I'll need to look that up. One of my biggest questions I have is about sunlight and the answers are never really the same. Can they tolerate any direct sun?
What I found is they can handle direct sunlight If the temperatures are not above 75 to 80°. Or they are slowly acclimate it to direct sunlight. And when I say direct sunlight I mean sitting outside like a plant or a tree. They can handle direct sunlight through a window.
Randy, do you think it's possible this could help my orchid that I neglected? It hardly has any roots. I had to cut a lot of dead and hollow roots. It lost one leaf. I wish I could send you a picture it's so sad looking. So far I put it in a tiny clear pot with holes. I have been watering it. Recently I did notice two little spots where roots might be growing. Is there any other additional tips you have? Thank you.
Do you answer questions? My plants got very poor care last year and I was cleaning up some trash which included plants that went un-watered and died. I spotted one tiny leaf among the dried stem and roots. I watered it put it out in the shade and it is doing great! Lots of roots have turned green. My question.......I am using what have learned from you and others and repotting my other surviving orchids . Should I repot this one or leave it be. It is tucked down between dead roots so I am not sure how fragile it is.
Hey Wayne... What a great story.... Did you have Instagram if so I would love to see pictures. I would make sure it's healthy and repot it if you want to bring it in. If you're ok with it where it is let it be. Just keep a close eye on it.
Hi I am trying to save mine too can I use cold tea made from kettle water and tea bag and should I cover the jar to keep it humid I put paper towel on top with rubber band yes or no
@@RandyMHarris I have been noticing some of the roots going bad not many left 😢 should I just stop doing the tea and just keep a eye on it and thought won’t cover it just spray the inside when I see it getting dry
Definitely don't feel guilty. It can be laborious and may not always work. But if you enjoy the process it can be rewarding. Thanks for watching. FYI I have more orchid content on a dedicated channel “The Black Orchid Project” ruclips.net/channel/UC0Vek_K6UlhF5eyJlhOCHlQ and Instagram instagram.com/blkorchidproject. If you would like to follow along.
Hi, I'm grateful I found your video because I also did the same mistake and left my Philodendron outside in the sun for an hour or so, and it got burned up pretty bad. But I noticed that there's a little sprout under one of the burned leaves, so do I need to do the tea thing or cut the burned leaves and let it be? Hopefully you answer my question, thx.
Sorry to hear that. Happens to the best of us sometimes. Just let it be for a few weeks. Most it often. It will kill off the effected areas and heal what it can. Then go from there.
So grateful I found your channel!! I have no idea how I got two orchids to rebloom, and they also have little babies starting. How many times can an orchid rebloom and when should I plant the babies?
Welcome Marie! Sounds like you must be a natural!!!! It will re-bloom infinitely with the right care. Do you know what type of orchids they are. You shouldn't be getting babies and blooms together on Phals.. If you are indeed getting Keikis wait until they have nice healthy roots. FYI I have more orchid content on a dedicated channel “The Black Orchid Project” ruclips.net/channel/UC0Vek_K6UlhF5eyJlhOCHlQ and Instagram instagram.com/blkorchidproject. Randy M Harris Thank you! I will follow both and try to figure out how to send you a picture. They were from the grocery store. Three plants are re blooming. Two have what look like babies and they all have so many roots growing out of them I’m not sure what’s going on 🤦🏻♀️
That's awesome and thanks for the update! My birthday orchids are still doing okay in my prototype pot design. May decide to use 3D printing to make some of them. Mostly since I sculpt with clay I was thinking if just making clay pots. I also work with resin and thought I may make a mold of one of the clay versions to cast a pot in clear epoxy resin. All this designing, trial and error etc. is keeping me busy during this time. :D Would love more updates as the keiki grows. :D - Heidi
Hey Hiedi, sounds like a fun project... The price of 3D printing has dropped tremendously. I'm thinking of buying one myself. You definitely have to stay busy to keep some sort of sanity. I'm baking too much Sourdough Bread..... LOL. I will definitely post updates. They will probably go on TBOP channel and Instagram since they are more orchid focused. Thanks for hanging out me.

If I ever get close to expiring, I hope you are around because you NEVER give up!
This is definitely one of my favorite comments ever!!! Thanks for watching.

When you put the plant in the tea how many times and days do I continue this process? Or can we proceed to put in the moss after one session?
I would soak them once a day. It took about a month
I dont know if you still rescuing orchids, but I will comment anyway. For an orchid to be alive you are going to need som lux... 😁
Hi I am trying to save mine too can I use cold tea made from kettle water and tea bag and should I cover the jar to keep it humid I put paper towel on top with rubber band yes or no
Yes cold brew is fine. I just sprinkle tea in water. Don’t make it too strong. Covering it is a good idea as long as it can still get circulation.
@@RandyMHarris hi thanks for your reply I don’t have any leaf on it anymore do you think I still have a chance some of the roots are still alive
@@RandyMHarris hi how long did it take before you noticed improvement
About 3-4 weeks I believe. I just kept doing it out of habit everyday. One day I saw a tiny green spec.

Good luck... Keep me updated

I feel so guilty, I’ve just thrown away a phalenopsis with a little crown rot. Next time I won’t give up. Amy😢
