It evaporates quickly, but it is very flammable. I will use krud cutter and water now to clean instead because of the fumes. Mineral spirits still works great though!
Im still confused on this whole concept. I was always under the impression that once something is stained, theres no going back. So was the original coating on the table not a stain since you sanded it down to a light color? And If someone else gets this table down the road can they do what you did and stain it even lighter? Why can I not grasp whats going on! Haha looks great though!
I like it dude. At first I was sceptical about what color and methods. Then you brought back the original picture and that thing wasnt gunna see life ever again, and you did your touch to it and brought it inside your house and it's got a new life. I respect that. Nice work, looks really cool. My only small critique is that I generally don't like the paint over wood look, I think letting the natural wood grains show through looks better, so I'd prefer some type of stain rather than a paint. With paint you can't see the natural beauty of the wood, so why even have wood. For me paint makes sense only when the underlying substrate has no natural beauty.
I was ambivalent about refinishing with chalk paint my old pine TV stand which matches my other vintage furnitures, so I guess I would have to refinish it in same pine but modern mat look. Thanks.

Stain penetrates the wood, as paint sits on top, but if you sand it down enough it, you can get to a point where the stain is not there
You can sand wood that’s been stained
