      @@beowulf555 Fair point but isn’t there data coming out that they’re actually worse for the environment than gasoline? Also I know it’s like 4x as expensive despite being more efficient. I just don’t see it being a real benefit to Elon as more manufacturers are designing amazing electric cars in an already difficult automotive industry that sees many companies go bankrupt.

      @@beowulf555 I’m sure you know much more about this topic than I. But it just seems in its current state that the hydrogen car industry is a major financial stake for a company with all the R&D required to safely produce a reliable hydrogen car.

    • @beowulf555
      @beowulf555 2 года назад +90

      @@justsalive4477 Expensive. Yes. Definitely. But so were electric cars and they still are honestly. There are two types of costs. One is the initial cost let’s say the cost to manufacture and then the maintenance costs (let’s include fuel as well here).
      Electric cars are now comparatively a bit cheaper coz the supply chain has been strengthened. That’s why Elon wanted more players in the market and he encouraged everyone. If he was the only player, suppliers will be limited and expensive. The same can happen to Hydrogen fuel cell too in terms of manufacturing.
      Now the fuel costs. While electricity is cheaper and solar panels on the roof lock in your costs and make it cheaper in the long run, the charging infrastructure is still developing and a lot of investment is needed. Not to mention ridiculously expensive. But With such investment, even fuel cell can get cheaper. May be not as cheaper as EV but will.
      But the main benefit is how clean it is. It’s actually the best solution if we want to stop global warming. EVs not so much. While they are energy efficient meaning we can run 4 cars with the same carbon foot print as one ICE, we still use coal and other harmful methods to produce electrical energy for the most part. Not to mention Lithium poisoning. All these batteries will end up in land fills eventually. Lithium and cobalt mining is not great for the ecosystem or the human beings either. Check out Cobalt mining slavery.
      Hydrogen production can be done from landfill too if we want to. Definitely the cleanest and best solution. It literally gives out water as against the harmful pollutants gasoline does. It’s just that everybody jumped on the EV bandwagon and invested a ton already. So fuel cells seem very expensive.

    • @jinxtacy
      @jinxtacy 8 месяцев назад

      @@wemakecookieThe same could be said for EVs and then more investment happened started to scale up and slowly scale down the price. The density of the storage is problematic as the weight because of the sheer amount of storage and somehow we've realize that a truck, cuv, suv is an optimal vehicle that can hold a lot of batteries but still allow the car to function as people expect. For normal people you're going to have tires that can carry more load, and the loading weight transfers have to go somewhere. So you're talking about a lot of bushings, brake pads, rotors, more expensive tires, etc. Of course it's all dependent upon use cases as well. The fact of the matter is is that EVs don't work for everyone equally and with more investment, hydrogen could certainly become more economical than it currently is. Electric cars have the momentum they need to continue to develop. I don't really understand people's all or nothing approach and putting our all our eggs into a singular basket stressing the need for certain materials instead of diversifying. We can live in a world with diesels, gasoline, plug in hybrid, non-plug in hybrid, electric, and hydrogen. I imagine hydrogen probably be pretty good for city use where the infrastructure can be more easily built up to serve the most people. Then again people can also go to a place like air and gas like they get their propane filled instead of these exchange systems that they've set up in the city. I think the biggest problem with propane is actually just the general populace and its inability to learn and treat potentially dangerous things with respect. Personally, I hate the way cars have become for probably over a decade now so I don't have some romantic attachment to the gas engine. I hope the technologies succeed to what their deserving of. It still seems where slightly ahead of the tech curve with emerging technologies on the horizon so an investment by a normal middle class family still seems slightly premature. Unfortunately you have all the teslarati I over leveraged my portfolio into Tesla crowd doing a massive marketing job on the public perception. Cool and it's exciting and I'm happy that there are early adopters but I think they're just that, early adopters and there are still kinks to work out and supporting infrastructure and standards to come. It's cool to see everything develop.

    Idiots in the comments defending hydogen dont realize that hydogen is substantially more expensive than gas, your car vents it as it warms up so you can't park in a garage, and your car needs to pre-chill the inlet so it actually takes longer than charging an EV. Thats besides the infrastructure being a monumental endeavor where as EVs can charge 40 miles in 8 hrs off a normal 120v outlet. People complaining about the grid also might be shocked to hear Hydogen requires 40% more energy to make then you get from burning it and most of what you get is heat. A hydogen car is anEV with lessvrange, more cost, and more steps, and less convince.
