- 2020 has been a tough year for most of us. Fortunately, it has also been full of great moments. After one year learning, practicing and shooting with the EOS M and Magic Lantern, I wanted to make a compilation of some of my favourite clips and memories. I hope you like it : )
Gimbal: Zhiyun weebill s
Lenses: Canon 24-105 F4L, Sigma art 35mm F1.4, Canon FD 50mm 1.4, the kit lens 18-55...
Shot at 1080, raw 14 bits. Upscaled to 4k with MLVAPP
2:35 aspect ratio, no black bars added on post.
Slow Motion Settings:
Some people are asking about my settings, this are the steps to achieve the slow motion clips on the EOS M: Set the shutter speed to 1/100 in the "Expo" tab of Magic Lantern. In the "Movie" tab select the "mv1080p 1736x976 46/48fps" preset or "HD 1080p 30/46/38fps" in the last build (nov 20). You need to change the frame rate of your clips in Premiere, right click on your clip from the project window, go to "Modify/Interpret Footage" and set "Assume this frame rate" to 25 fps.

Codec: Apple ProRes 4444, ffmpeg Kostya
Debayer: Receipt Configuration
Resize 3840
Smooth Aliasing: Off

Getting into videography myself with the EOS M setup with ML. Watch this to get some tips on setup, shooting angles, lighting etc. but came out feeling inspired a emotional from the work. Fantastic job!

@@JoseTorralbaM it's a shot I really want to recreate. Technically it looks very clear and well lit. No noticable noise. Was it brighter on set and you were able to darken it in post to achieve that look?
It was brighter. I sub exposed on camera and lit with two leds at full power, one above de mirror and another one on the ceiling. Shot at ISO 200

Which shots were the kit lens? I always love to see a kit lens sneak into beautiful edits.
Is the Weebil S the recommended gimbal? I know it's expensive compared to some of the DJI stabilizers.

I would go for any of the dji options. Better stabilization and enough max payload for the eosM
@@JoseTorralbaM Looks great. I was really impressed with the M kit lens. The 18-55 that came with Canon DSLRs I could never get to look good but this little M one looks really good for some reason.

Thank you Nicholas, mostly I shoot with the Canon 24-105 f4L, when I need more light I shoot with the Sigma art 35mm f1,4. And I also have manual lenses: Miranda 28mm f2,8 and Canon FD 50mm f1,8

I set in Movie Mode - HD 1080 and set 1/100 (can't find "mv1080p 1736x976 46/48fps") and then in Premiere - "Modify/Interpret Footage" "Assume this frame rate" to 25 fps - unfortunately still jerky motion.

Have you checked if your composition in Premiere is set to 25fps?
I don't use the speed duration option, I just change the frame rate of my clips to 25

Tus videos son geniales! Recién acaba de empezar a trastear con mi canon eos m y con paciencia estoy obteniendo buenos resultados. Tengo el objetivo del kit (18-55mm). Tu como haces para grabar en 1080p y no tener problemas de aliasing (el parpadeo del chroma) ? yo deje de grabar en 1080p (ahora solo grabo en 5k) ya que el aliasing me estaba volviendo loco. Me das algún consejo para evitarlo ? Gracias por la inspiración espero llegar pronto a tu nivel
Hola Gabriel, muchas gracias!
Con el 18-55 es difícil arreglar el tema del aliasing. El único consejo que se me ocurre para evitarlo con esa lente es evitar los patrones repetitivos y lineas finas en escenas con contraste (por ejemplo cables de luz con el cielo detrás). Podrías probar con un filtro mist, lo reduce un poco pero no lo soluciona del todo. También existen filtros de paso bajo antialiasing, pero estos se instalan entre el objetivo y el sensor y tendrías que hacer un apaño casero para encajar los que hay en el mercado. Hasta donde yo sé no hay ninguno específico para la eos m. El 5k soluciona bastante el tema, el problema como ya sabes es el recorte de imagen... así que no hay solución perfecta : (

I'm wondering if I can get the same or close to the same results using my Canon T4i - considering that the stats for the T4i and Eos M are nearly identical across the board. The t4i, of course is much heavier and bulkier, but it shoots Raw already. The only disadvantage I see is the actual lens mount which is EF - EFS on the T4i.
I guess so. Being a canon with ML should look similar…

How to manual focus with gimbal?? Yours look amazing
Sometimes I use the focus wheel of my gimbal or I just do manual focus before recording, keeping a closed diafragm and following the subjects to not lose the focus

I really want to buy it, but how we can shot and framing while you only see a tiny x5 crop live view?
If you only shoot in 1080p mode, which I do, you're not going to get any crop. You can always super scale to 4k with davinci resolve

I shot in 14 bit. I'm not an expert but, shooting in 1080p with a 95mb/s XCI Sandisk card I get continuous recording

@@JoseTorralbaM Guay. No sé si me podrías aconsejar. Tengo una Canon RP, full frame mirrorless relativamente nueva. Pero, no tiene CLOG, y estoy usando Cinestyle para ampliar el rango dinámico ya que por defecto es bastante limitado. Hasta ahí bien. ¿Qué pasa? No consigo colorear luego la imagen para recuperar tanto el contraste y los colores consiguiendo un look agradable. Uso Davinci Resolve. ¿Algún consejo? Para conseguir por ejemplo un look similar al de algunos clips de este vídeo
Mm la verdad es que ahora mismo solo controlo lo que entra en mi flujo de trabajo con Sony y Blackmagic. Antes investigaba en general… No sé nada de Canon y quizás lo que te pregunto es una obviedad: transformas el cinestyle a rec709? A partir de ahí (rec709), yo ahora lo hago todo con Dehancer por comodidad
