Brian, Heavens to Betsy, that card is screaming gorgeous for a "2"! I think SGC and PSA are in a battle to see who is the toughest grader and they are at times too tough, IMHO! Really nice image quality for that card! WOW! 😊👊
Was thinking 3 with a shot at 3.5 or even a 4. Definitely was not thinking 2…seems undergraded but I’m missing something. Congratulations regardless, beautiful card!
Wouldn't begin to give you an opinion as I consider you to be one of the vintage whisperers. The card looks awesome! Congrats on it no matter what you do with it.
Amazing card regardless of the grade. I just saw another 2 with a lightning bolt wrinkle down the middle. I mean for me it's a '51 Mantle, I'd be happy with any grade, lol. Thanks for sharing!
I think you should have sent it to SGC unless you sent it to PSA for set registry purposes. But none the less a very nice Mantle rookie you should be proud to own👍🏼
Is that a print line or scratch, located ~ 1/3rd of the way in if starting form the left, that goes from top to bottom passing thru his left cheek? Ever so slight dots paper loss as a result if it's a scratch?
Just saw your comment about the wrinkle. I think a 2.5 from SGC would've been possible. My original comment: Wow, that is a really tough grade. I was leaning toward a 3 because the card is a bit top right in terms of centering, but those corners collectively don't seem nearly rounded enough to get knocked down to a 2. I imagine there's some other underlying issue, but it also seems like PSA is so unpredictable right now. It's a fantastic card!
I would think 2.5 to 3 all day, with a wrinkle. They are out of their minds lately, just got my worst sub ever back from them, and in it, they didn't even catch tape on a Wilson Franks Harvey Kuenn that I subbed. Anyway, super nice Mantle, what a card!
Seems low. Only thing I saw that jumped out at me is that vertical line on his sleeve. Unless that’s on the slab, googled other images and don’t see that line.
PSA has a rough history when it comes to grading valuable cards for the general population vs. a small group of submitters.. I've seen some awful looking vintage cards with jaw-dropping high grades and some amazing cards with jaw-dropping low grades. I submitted a few hundred vintage to them over the course of a few years and finally gave up
That is just brutal. I wonder if there's some "Population Control" going on there. That card looks beautiful. I guarantee is you go to SGC you'll be looking at least at a 5... Sorry they're making you go through this!
I found the flaw Dave. The thing is that it isn't my card, and I don't want to spend more of my consignors money. We are taking the stance of "it is what it is" at this point.
Wrinkle or not, the grade is BS. There are 4 PSA 2s on ebay right now. This card is FAR superior to all of them. Not even close. Between this and the Brett, I'd have a hard time justifying sending a vintage card to them over SGC. I'd guess this would be an SGC 3.5 and I'm saying that just based on you telling us there is a wrinkle there that we can't see.
My grade was a 2.5. Its the rounded corners and centering that brought it down. Awesome card, so jealous. Enjoyed
Beautiful card!
After reviewing the card further I noticed a wrinkle beginning at his hat and running horizontally to the upper right corner.
Id say a 4 honestly maybe a 5
Wow nice man! Congrats on that Mantle Rookie Card! It's a beauty!!
That is an amazing looking card!
That is one crispy Mantle ROOKIE!
Better than a 2 good looking card!!

Thank you for sharing it with us; sorry you’re disappointed with the grade. Looks great to me.
It’s a beauty, Brian.
Love it! Wish I could snag it!!!
Me too! Haha
Maybe the print line down brought it down to a 2.

Great addition!!
Looked like a perfect 3 to me. That seems insanely harsh.

I guessed a 3. Definitely better than a 2,
The Mantle is a 3 or 4 imo. Good centering, sweet surface, rounded corners and I can't see the edges but they're probably a bit jagged.
INSTANT CLICK haha. Still bummed on the final result.
Tough grade for sure. When it comes to vintage, I think the less new PSA slabs created the better. They have some things to work out.

I think it would have looked better in a SGC slab to begin with!
That's crazy I know Mickey mantle son David mantle I met him through my cousin
I was thinking 3.5, but just saw your pin about the wrinkle. I’m curious what the grading fee was for it?
You don't wanna know lol

I guessed 3.5, I think 2 is too low unless the card has some defect that's difficult to see. . I just saw your comment below about the wrinkle.
I went in thinking 3. Now that I saw the wrinkle I think it is graded accurately
It's just a 1951 Mantle guys, nothing big to see here LOL. Holy smoke B, such a killer under graded card.
Honestly I think it’s time we put heat on PSA and there strong hold on card market and invest more into SGC I JUST sent my 1st vintage order to SGC
Ouch, I'm thinking it should be at the very very least, with no creases or stains, it's a 3.

Before you showed the grade I guessed a 3 🤷🏻♂️ it’s all subjective! Beautiful card in any grade!
I thought that Mantle should’ve got a grade of PSA 3.5
By the way, an SGC 3, sells for more than a PSA 2, just saying!!!!
I know I just don't know how much more we want to spend on this card...
3 possible 4 I believe
Seems low. Only thing I saw that jumped out at me is that vertical line on his sleeve. Unless that’s on the slab, googled other images and don’t see that line.
Yeah there are roller marks on the front
Should’ve been a 4 for that mantle. Inconsistent grading with PSA & SGC
2 seems very low to me (although I'm far from an expert)...I was thinking somewhere 3-4.
In looking I found the flaw that made it a 2. Long wrinkle from his hat to the right edge of the card
Is that not a wrinkle going across his hat? Either way, incredible card! EDIT: D'oh just saw your comment
Is the Mickey Mantle card available for purchase?
No this sold a while ago sorry
I have a mickey mantle yet to be geaded 😮
You should make a video and show it
@@broth6 that's actually a great idea 👌

PSA has been laughably harsh on vintage lately.
Send it to SGC Brian, PSA has completely lost its legitimacy. They have no incentive to accurately grade , crossover or review cards. None

beauty- PSA sucks...looks like a 3 all day
