      @@Pointebrush OK gotta ask: if you are using tube paint, are you adding glycerine, do you live in e.g. Seattle, or just living with the fact the WN tube paint doesn't rewet really easily? I use. DS and M Graham because both rewet super easily.

    • @Pointebrush

      @@Scottlp2 Hi there! I don't add anything to my watercolors (glycerine or other) and I've never had trouble rewettting my WN. I usually add a couple of drops of water from a dropper about 5 minutes before I start painting to let it "marinate" ;). I live in the Northeast so the seasons and humidity vary considerably. That being said, I've been using DS a lot more recently and have loved them (mostly for the color offering).
      It might also be worth mentioning that my style doesn't require me to use all that much paint. I work fairly small and somewhat drier than the juicy ultra wet on wet artists out there lol Hope that helps!!

    Have you tried the W&N transparent yellow? Transparent orange? Aqua green? Quin Violet? You can get some fab mixes and being transparent are so much more flexible. I've had some lovely greys for pigeons becoming reddish purple for their breast plumage.
    My hubby laughs at how much I love my mixes in fading blob swashes gradually changing one into another! Aqua green I can use Almost as a blue.

    What a very interesting color this Rose doré is. Beautiful name also. It looks to me that it’s not an easy color to work with.
    Your nickel azo yellow looks also like the gamboge of Rembrandt. Remarkable color. Also very interesting where the name gamboge comes from.
    Love your video’s and nice appearance. 👏👏

    It's always very interesting hearing about what other painters use. I love perylene green, green gold, quinacridone magenta, quinacridone gold, paynes grey, opera rose, gambodge yellow and ultramarine blue. I also have this incredible colour which is a very old Winsor and Newton unlabelled half pan of what looks like cobalt violet, but it's more pigmented than their current cobalt violet.

    • @Pointebrush
      @Pointebrush  2 года назад +1

      I agree! I always love seeing what other artists are doing because it gives me ideas for what I can incorporate in my work. Thanks for watching and for sharing your favorites! ps. That unlabelled W&N color sounds amazing!

      Pretty close to what I'm using. One exception: what makes you prefer gamboge yellow to e..g. Hansa yellow?

      @@Scottlp2 You know it's entirely personal. I'm naturally more drawn to the warmer tones of those gambogey yellows ;) It's like asking you if you are you a coffee or tea drinker? I'm coffee all the way lol

    So fun to see your WN favorites with a few DS added. I dry my WN paints in half pans with glycerin because they have a hard to rewett reputation. I sometimes wonder if glycerin affects the outcome of the paints on paper in any negative way. I've never done a comparison. Has anyone ever addressed this? So glad to see your channel grow. It's a joy to watch!

    • @Pointebrush
      @Pointebrush  2 года назад +2

      Thank you so much DeeAnn! So kind of you to say! I don't add glycerin or any other binder to my paints and I can't imagine that it makes that much of a difference. The classicists would probably say the more you dilute the pigment in the paint formula, the less concentrated it ends up, but you can probably counter that with layering and glazing. No one is going to be examining your painting with a microscope to check on pigment concentrations (I hope!! lol)

    when you pulled out the greens and said one of them is a fan fav and the other is off the beaten path, I thought Cascade Green was the fan fav for sure lol! This paint is very popular for its color separation for a while now. I just don't know if I can handle that separation.

      That’s how I felt about it (and a lot of Daniel Smith paints) at first. But then I learned to love the feeling of “letting go” and allowing the paints to surprise me. It’s oddly liberating 😂😉

    I am doubling that other Winsor &Newton lover. I reach for this brand over and over and over time I know what they are going to do and faithfully do. Sennelier is my next go to as they have amazing pigment load, rewet easily and are fabulous bang for your buck. I am not a cadmium lover, but I agree they are spectacular in depth.

    • @Pointebrush
      @Pointebrush  2 года назад +1

      Hi Alison and welcome!! Winsor and Newton truly is a classic and very elegant choice. Do you use Sennelier tubes or pans? I haven’t enjoyed the pans as much as the tubes so not sure if it’s just me or if there’s a difference in the formulation. Thanks for watching! ❤️

      @@Pointebrush I use Sennelier tubes. I have not purchased pans for any product for 8 years. Beginner set, then graduated to professional grade tubes. Fast learner.. my first pans were Cotman.. best of the best student grade I think. Oh and look Winsor &Newton yet again 😂😂

    Hi dear, I loved your video. As I was watching you I was looking through my swatch book that I finally made to compare the different companies I have, and I had SM Quinacridone Coral and Prussian Green I wanted to try, as well as WN Rose Gold and a few others, but unfortunately I just don't have it to plunk down over $15 for a small tube of paint. All my brands I have are student grade going from very transparent to very pigmented and opaque, but it's so hard to want to try the higher end companies. ☹️

      I totally understand where you’re coming from and art supplies are pricy these days! What helps ne is to remember that a collection doesn’t get built overnight and often it’s better to add one color at a time over the course of many months and years. That way you can fully savor the wonder of each new color of your watercolor palette family.

    These are nice color choices. Rose Dore is a beautiful color and is also one of my favorites. It is similar to DS Quin Coral but has more of a salmon tint to it. Have you tried any of the pyrrol or perylene colors? Pyrrol scarlet for example is a beautiful red, and perylene maroon is another favorite, both from DS. :)

    I enjoyed this video although my paints are primarily Daniel Smith. And although I enjoy piano music, it was very distracting to have this music playing in the background.
