By now I sold most of my digital pedals… with the iPad I have way more processing power than any of these metal island minicomputers that they sell for almost the same price as an iPad, per pedal… I use mostly Tonebridge and miRack at this point, for me it’s fun to create my own effects this way.
I'm still recovering from not winning the serial number 00001 Gen Loss in the recent Chase Bliss giveaway. So thank you for the GAS therapy sir! I salute you! ♥
Mood is my favorite effect right now. Maybe it’s the combination of the two sides but it would be hard to replicate. However if anyone can it’s this guy right here
I use SketchCassette2 for this stuff. Not free but not expensive and I love the sound. Not a tape machine but cassette player. The same company has Digitalis which is great for stuff like this.
when I found out this pedal was released the first thing I thought of was the chow tape model!!! im so glad someone is spreading the word, I love all yr content, art shouldn't be so damn expensive
Chow Tape is an amazing plug-in. I never used it for lo-fi stuff myself, but for more subtle tape effects which it can do very good as well. For lo-fi stuff I usually go for iZotope Vinyl. Also free, and does the whole vinyl degrading thing quite well. Not quite the same, but in the same ball park.
Hi Michael! I think what you are doing is wonderful! I have almost lost my faith in good gear content on youtube, when I finally found your channel. Your videos are great and clever, they are like breath of fresh air in the world of musical gear where everybody are just making commercials for overpriced gear and praise overconsumption. Thank you!
I really appreciate how keen you are on deconstructing “Expensive Thing X” down to its different bits without the glossy veil that shills usually give them.
Amazing video! Thanks, this made my day. I'm already playng with it. Would be amazing in the future to see a similar video with other famous Chase Bliss, like Mood or Habit, which I'm trying to replicate with no great success
Earned a sub for pointing out my favorite thing to point out to gear hoarders; all digital pedals are selling you cheap, low power computers for way too much money. An iPad will run ALL the effects I could stand to stack on top of each other and only generate latency one time for a lot less money.
Thanks, I've been using Chow Tape in ios for about a year, it's great. Will def download for my studio and portable computer. Watching your vid now, I hope you mentioned there is a donate button on all their plugins. I've donated on all their plugs.
nice useful content, great conclusion. Really one of the best "gear oriented" channel that could be. Another one would be loopop demos, and the one i haven't found yet dealing with environmental cost of music production
Have been debating this pedal for months, but the latency is a dealbreaker. Very surprised other reviewers haven’t mentioned this. I do think that digital pedal makers need to start publishing latency and A/D/A specs more explicitly. I tend to stick with analog pedals for this reason. Thanks for an excellent video.
I'm not sure how you could do this in a pedal without some latency due to the processing. Old tape cassette recorders that are semi-broken with wow & flutter issues are tools I use a lot, though not each item for long as they often break beyond use, and I don't see how any pedal could process the input instantly to give the effect. As to the accuracy of the stereo image on the pedal, it's not like any of the stereo cassette decks I've used, there was much more irregular warping on the alternate stereo channel. but for mono purposes it's very accurate for vcr recordings and it's in the ball park accurate for any semi-broken cassette decks I have used, for a pedal.
I have recently been fascinated with the pedal effect market, it seems to me a driving factor is pure aesthetics, which is totally legit but its lead me to wonder how often the price reflects closely to the labor put into creating this or that effect. as an example I can appreciate a hand built point to point analog circuit and understand well why it's price is what it is, the same is true for a well laid out pcb inside a beautiful enclosure, but somewhere in there is a bunch of wiggle room where one is bound to ask what they can get away with in pricing. It's not the fault of the pedal builder, or the buyer of course, they're both confined by market forces (for better or worse) Your ethos is akin to the DIY mentality and I love it (well no, it is DIY, Your sampler is great!) , it forgoes any trickery our minds might be subjected to by mojo parts and good youtube marketing demos, it drives at the heart of what it is we, or at least I am aiming for, to make art how we want to make it.
The truth is you can promote a product however you want. If it's a small run guitar brand, then you can say it's built or designed by someone who also plays bit guitar, then promote it as a master built line, limited universally and sell it at $10000+, but in reality they're just a different guitar, trying to grab as much money as you have. And I just choose the way I like the most.
Oh btw, I believe those PCB boards are all created by CNC machine, including soldering, can be super cheap with batch run, only assembling requires human labour, which can also be super cheap if you do it in Asia, with $150 we can assemble you an iPhone.
Sure feels good to crack open all these black boxes to see how they work and how to improve upon them. Way better than shelling out hundreds of dollars over and over in hopes of the big music corps deciding to actually solve things for us. Long live DIY.
The latency is definitely in there and at a fixed variable purposefully, it causes a chorus effect but yeah has the unfortunate side effect of doubling percussive sounds also. Chase bliss recently released and alternate firmware where it tightens the latency to be more of a flange type effect and sounds better on drums. Also maybe worth noting spread is only autopan in the classic mode, in the normal mode it is the failure algorithm being run twice for a true stereo image effect. (I should note I don't own or plan on owning a gen loss mk1 or 2)
We need a series for pocket operators. I love their simplicity and how I can easily trigger effects and record over it, changing patterns, etc. Also, we have a shortage of tonic, and I want one. I need some therapy.
Awesome. I love people not only explaining how to do something cheaper/for free, but explaining what is actually going on too. Any tool you actually know how to use is more useful than one you barely understand after all. More folks need to do exactly what you're doing. I salute you. On a personal note: I remember looking at the prices for a LoFi Junky pedal and realizing I could buy multiple multi-effects pedals for the price of one LJ and recreate the sound with any one of those. An old digitech RP100 (one of the most scoffed at pedals among snobs) cost me $60 and was way, way more useful even JUST for that one effect, let alone the practically infinite other combinations. I know there's a Zoom pedal that's a bit better too, but this one is totally fine.
Imagine not sitting and fiddling with your pedals for hours to find what you need :P joking of course. this was really cool! roommate and I saw a video for that pedal and we were shocked it was 400 bucks. Gonna have to check out your other GAS videos!
You rock. Thank you so much for this series. I have been buying way too many guitar pedals recently and I will definitely be using your videos to get my sounds!
A cheap vibrato and tremolo pedal chained together will do the trick as well. I use a TC Electronic Tailspin and a Marshall Vibratrem, which cost me 50 euros together
Hi this is great. I've just discovered your channel. I work mainly in analogue. I can't justify the price tag of many of these sort of pedals. I struggle with PC's and digital tech/menu's. This looks super simple to operate. I'm really looking forward to watching more.
First time hearing this band, so I checked their music and video. Damn they're just soooooo cool! And their way dealing with pedals are so freaking practical, and looks cool too!
Love your videos. This one is great. If you’re taking requests for more pedal emulations, I would like to see your take on a Strymon Big Sky pedal. I love their sound, but too expensive for me. Keep up the great work👍
Chase Bliss just announced a low latency firmware update ruclips.net/video/fPuoYbzQk6s/видео.html
A perfect story about how negative review benefits customers eventually.
Every video I’ve seen of yours is 🔥. Thanks for your work.

I'd love to see your take on the Microcosm. Excelent content as always!
That would be amazing!
Oh I'd love to see that!
Yes please. Have play with Bleass Granulizer to achieve that type of thing. But I to broke to be able to test the real thing.
You’re the first person to mention the audio latency issue! Thanks for another great video!
I'm the bad guy.
@@playpm favorite villain
The timing of this video is crazy…. Saw CB just today released a firmware update to fix the latency
This is how bad review benefits customers.
Not even remotely the first person to mention it. He literally embedded another video demonstrating the issue.
I'm still recovering from not winning the serial number 00001 Gen Loss in the recent Chase Bliss giveaway. So thank you for the GAS therapy sir! I salute you! ♥
Loved the video, hope you cover Hologram Microcosm next.
I love your dry sense of humour. Another great video. Best wishes.
Mood is my favorite effect right now. Maybe it’s the combination of the two sides but it would be hard to replicate. However if anyone can it’s this guy right here
The mood is so cool, and it is on sale as of May 15, 2023. I would like to see it replicated
wow that latency is kind of mind blowing
Just discovered your videos today. Watched 3 already, and love the style and info, thanks! This guy needs more subs, I'll be sharing
Appreciated for the support ❤️
I use SketchCassette2 for this stuff. Not free but not expensive and I love the sound. Not a tape machine but cassette player. The same company has Digitalis which is great for stuff like this.
Chow Tape Model is a fantastic plugin. Thanks for this video, you have probably saved some people from wasting their money!

The chow wow is a simple sine wave pitch mod, tape doesn’t sound like that, it’s more random 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Michael! I think what you are doing is wonderful! I have almost lost my faith in good gear content on youtube, when I finally found your channel. Your videos are great and clever, they are like breath of fresh air in the world of musical gear where everybody are just making commercials for overpriced gear and praise overconsumption. Thank you!

@@playpm appreciate your honesty! ;^)

I'm just a shill for cheap craps 😆
Amazing video! Thanks, this made my day. I'm already playng with it. Would be amazing in the future to see a similar video with other famous Chase Bliss, like Mood or Habit, which I'm trying to replicate with no great success
You deserve more views. Every pedal/gear demo should come with a link to this channel.
Appreciated, truth is my video will only hurt their sales, including their affiliate ones.

Very informative video, and helped me with avoiding an expensive pedal, which I instead used to purchase an upgraded delay pedal. nice
nice useful content, great conclusion. Really one of the best "gear oriented" channel that could be. Another one would be loopop demos, and the one i haven't found yet dealing with environmental cost of music production
Hahahaha the setting change on the pedals when you play the guitar killed me :D
Awesome, thank you. No one has mentioned the audio latency.
I think this is a fair and super helpful video! That being said, I'm still very glad that I ordered a Gen Loss.
They literally posted an update this afternoon fixing the latency
I've got this pedal and notice no latency. Maybe it's fixed. If there's latency, it's in milliseconds and not noticeable.
@@davidpack4867 are you aware that 16ms latency is already considered substantial? again, milliseconds
I'm not sure how you could do this in a pedal without some latency due to the processing. ChowTapeModel is downloaded. Love your channel. It makes me sold half of my music gear (and bought other... but less expensive :)).
U are our HERO Robin Hood ...we love u man
This plugin is incredible! Thanks so much for the tip. Any chance you could try and do a GAS therapy for the Chase Bliss Habit pedal? 😂
Nice idea!

For those who don't want to install the program can use inner extract to get the .dll out of the .exe ;)
Great video!
I've been looking for a channel that does exactly this!
Awesome stuff!!! Can you do more of these for Chase Bliss?
Maybe later, I'm working on a much bigger project right now, stay tuned 🤫
the little metal boxes on the ground make more sense in the live setting, but love this michael
Appreciated, you'll feel the anger when you're trying to step on 3 nails at the same time lively just for changing a preset 🙃
Just found your channel, love the video. You got a new subscriber!
My new catch phrase “…except the wahwah pedal.” 😂
Wise advice again. The pedal costs a minimum of twice the price of Michael’s MacBook Air (which he told us was $200).
Did I mention my $40 guitar 🤓

You're amazing, thanks for this.
Wow, thank you for sharing a really great alternative. Have you checked out Lossy?
Chow Tape Model is the only one I can recommend here (since all the others don't run on my machines).
It's great!
So…you’re saying I can get all these sounds combined in just one pedal, and put my guitar through it? Sweet! Gotta get one. Thanks!

I love what you do! I'm going to play around with that plug-in soooo much
Great job
Caelum Audio Tape thing is also great for LOFI
Love your comment about guitar pedals! Chow tape is also on iOS. As well as Caelum,s Tape pro +++

ok now this is AWESOME
bravo 👏
Fantastic advice. Thank you so much.
TLDR: guitar pedals are stupid. Who the hell would design something with knobs on the ground for an instrument you play standing up? I love this guy
The only thing on them for the foot is the on-off switch.
Thanks for doing this one. I was hoping for it
Dude you’re awesome.

I'll just use my SP404 MkII 😄
(Yes, I know you have an episode about that one 😙)
