Same exact situation for me! I started with buying a ddj-sr but later realized it was missing a ton of useful features, so I was gonna upgrade to the ddj-sx until I came across this beauty. I was instantly sold once I read all the features for the price, and even more sold after watching tons of videos and reading reviews. Great guide, 1 big point you didn't mention is that you can record your mix straight to USB simply by putting a USB stick in slot 2 and pressing record.

I was sold on Traktor so much that I pulled the trigger on the S8. I'm thinking about sending the S8 back and getting this. I really looking to start gigging at clubs again so I'm considering this as the Pioneer system is what most clubs have or at least CDJs. My two grips with this unit are, it's only two channels and it doesn't link with the Pioneer Toraiz yet which is really disappointing. I've thought about getting this and the MPC Live but that means running a laptop for MIDI which kinda defeats the purpose of an all in one box.
I do know what you mean about the 2 channels but i think there are so many positives that outweighing that negative . Even before i purchased mine , i honestly thought "just 2 channels". However. .. transitioning so many ways from one track into another with all kinds of types of loop styles , breaks , effects etc etc ( and clever use of the cross fader) there's so much that can be accomplished that i have never felt suffocated. Onboard software is the way to go . .. it makes sense. Best of luck
I am going to buy this, totally sold like you -- yeh - if u really want to be typing while ur mixing, then this doesnt do that - but if u just want to scroll through, like we did with an actual recordbox then this is great - laptops shouldnt be on stage, and software has latency, where as playing straight from USB is immediate, thats why im buying this - if anything is wrong with it, its the fact it only has 2 channels, so impossible to do the 4 deck thing - im gutted about that, but im still getting one - the similarity between this and the pro NXS gear is amazing - Recordbox is amazing - And no shitty software or laptop needed -- And quantize function is amazing but cheeky -- sync,, im not against - but i dont want people to think im cheating - so i might not use sync when i play in front of people, u should deffo learn without sync, and use it as a bonus, not how u learn -- also, the bpm counters, if u just move pitch slider till the bpm match, thats the same as using sync anyway, so stick some bluetack over the 2 bpm readouts on the screen -- and practice proper without sync or bpm -- And quantize function is amazing but cheaky, u only need to press buttons near the beat and it starts perfect -- i think if ur talkin to someone or drinkin, or mixin 4 tracks, or doing complex loops then use quantize and sync - but at the beggining, u should learn to mix with the pitch and adjusting the jogwheel, once u know that, and u good, its fair to use those aids that help u out. a 4 channel one would be sweet AMAZING PIECE OF GEAR - im getting it,

Mac Joseph if you are using USB you have prepared your tracks anyway ,you can just put them in order you want to play them ,you don't have to have a thousand tracks on a USB stick ,you can keep them on tour computer and put the ones you want to play in your set on a USB stick,delete them when you have finished etc,it would come in handy to search with a keyboard but it's no groundbreaking major issue ,the fact you can record your set with another USB stick on this,have no latency issues,no software bugs or laptop dependance with waveforms on screen is awesome
Sorry to hear that . .. Do you have a controller or any decks etc?. If not and you want something much cheaper but similar to the XDJ RX , I honestly recommend the Stanton SCS.4DJ controller as price is an issue here in your (as you put it) "so broke" situation.
Great , not as dire as i thought. As the RX has been on the market for a bit but not for too long , you'll definitely find many lightly used ones at a good price(+PX your iDJ Pro). If you save as you want it , you'll definitely get it. I can't rave on enough about the RX , i've done mixes on it that i even amaze myself with. The RX is a dream. You're moving from Numark to Pioneer . .. I"ve found a lot of Numark owners snub Pioneer (is it a loyalty thing?) , good to know you don't. .. You'll get the bookings and you'll get the RX
+OPAZ do you have any idea how this stacks up to the Numark IDJPro? I have one (bought it as a beginner last year), and have thought about upgrading. Is it a lateral move or a step up???
Very good question. The RX is a step up in overall quality and as an all-in-one machine. Don't get me wrong the IDJ is a great machine too which i found easy to use and all the extras with the expansion on the ipad makes it appealing. For some the fact that it needs support from an ipad may make it not so appealing. I would hate to say this but the RX is a lateral move as in functionality. However in quality , feel , overall build and as a controller it is definitely an upgrade. You really do need to demo an RX first to see if it's the one for you as it has a totally different way of functioning than the IDJ with the ipad. Hope this helps
Chances are that it might never skip at all, although there are various units even more expensive than this one that I know have had this problem. . . .various popular brands as well. Though its not common, it is recommended to always have a laptop on hand specially if engaging a public function. . . better safe than sorry.
