Awsome video DJ Tide!. Thanks for sharing. Will definitely try it out tonight :D. I actuallu say the video of him displaying this technique, but it was some time ago. James Zabiela is one of the coolest guys out there when it comes to DJing. The best, //FLX
Nice video man. I recently bought the xdj-rx. An amazing controller. Have you tried cue scratching with the tempo set on wide and shifting the tempo bar while pressing cue? makes a really nice scratch sound too.
i understand wanting to scratch on controllers, but this is a cheat technique - u hav the sample already chopped, like a simulated transformer - u can scratch properly on this equipment, fast jogwheel movements in vinyl mode and fast fader movements - ur showing peeps how to cheat basically
DawntreaderUK Its just a trick, if DJs want to use this simple but cool sounding trick then let them, who knows maybe it will lead them to want to learn turntabalism.
It's literally just a technique, this falls into the category of "Is sync cheating?" No. None of this is cheating, they're literally just different ways of achieving an end result.
If you measuring cheating as circumventing reliance on a learned skill, then syncing is cheating. The same goes with shortcuts for "scratching". Because this simulates a scratch that is performed manually, it might be considered cheating. That syncing circumvents beat matching and sequencing makes it an analogous example.
Wolf In The Woods hey there I'll be posting more videos pretty soon. sold this controller and ended up getting the ddjrx though the tricks will definitely work for the xdjrx as well!
I'm undecided whether to go for the XDJ-RX or the DDJ-RX. What was your reason for switching? Do you prefer working with a laptop and have you have any problems? Thanks
+Manny Aguilar you can baby scratch without a fader, using just the volume faders. This style of scratching works on cdjs or the xdj-rx, though it works well on traktor it doesnt sound as good.
I dont see how a simple trick as this takes away from real djing. Its not like I wont stop mixing and transitioning songs if all I do is this trick lol.
+Sherman Story you can get the scratch sample off of most scratch vinyl records, you can get it off of Ean Golden's soundcloud soundcloud.com/ean-golden/136-samples-scratches
+Sherman Story the link I sent you has a long mp3 with a bunch of scratch samples. most mp3s of scratch samples are on one continuous mp3 and not individual files.
Matt Jackson I have a pair of technics sl-1210 mk2s, a pt01 scratch, a vestax handy trax with raiden fader, I've been learning how to scratch for a few years now. I just made this video for DJs that use controllers. I would love to check out your video though!
I don't think real djs in this day and age really care nowadays but RUclips keyboard djs. That's like saying you're only a real dj nowadays if you spin vinyl, old thinking stuck in old ways.
apples and oranges... using a controller is not pretending you're good on vinyl djing. it's just a different tool. faking a skill is a whole other story.
Same thing as drum machine users using premade drum loops versus playing the actual drum samples, as long as it sounds good in the end who cares? It's not like people who use the loop scratch are actual turntablists and will enter actual DMC competitions.
radwizard you don't know what you are on about. This is not a vinyl tutorial and if he wanted to do a vinyl tutorial he would have conected vinyls up to the xdj-rx mixer. Dj Tide is just giving tips for people with new electronic equipment.
Vekked is an awesome dj but he isnt using vinyl, hes using a DVS set up which is most likely Traktor, and a Z1 mixer. And im somewhat competent with scratching on vinyl, this video was more for those who want to emulate scratching in a digital effects sense.
Clear instructions. Thanks for taking the time to teach this.
Chris Kelley NP!
That's actually pretty cool I don't think I can do it with motorized platters though. It sounds unique and musical for sure
I'll definitely treat it out on a pair of motorized platters if I ever get a chance!
@@chrispasternack3340 it definitely works on my sc5000ms!

Hey bro thx for the compliment! Yup I do cue scratching in one of my mix videos, pretty fun stuff!

im not convinced - its cheating
I don't know if I'd call it cheating, but I certainly wouldn't call it scratching. I think I'd feel better if it were called an effect...

Why did you tap in the tempo manually? The BPM readout of Rekordbox is quite good, it's much better for using FX like Trans, Echo etc.
Oliver López force of habit from using the djm 900
hahah yeah I know this problem :D Nevertheless it's a nice video!
Also if you press and hold the tap button it locks the FX BPM to the master BPM exactly
I would love to see more vids just like this one, actually. There are vids on the topic of scratching on controllers, but few vids showing the tricks.

This was really good. I just thought scratching involved moving the cross fader.
+Manny Aguilar you can baby scratch without a fader, using just the volume faders. This style of scratching works on cdjs or the xdj-rx, though it works well on traktor it doesnt sound as good.
Ty dude. I love my xdj rx and happy holidays bro
you too brotha!
It does, this can only be done on a digital controller, nice trick, but takes away from real dj'n
I dont see how a simple trick as this takes away from real djing. Its not like I wont stop mixing and transitioning songs if all I do is this trick lol.
what tipe of program do you use to format youre songs from the stick?
I'm not sure what you mean, but I do just mp3s and the rekordbox software.
Hi! Where can I get scratch loops like the one you used in the video? I am so new to this but so excited!!! I feel so called to scratch!
hello, if you are looking for mp3s, soundcloud has a bunch

Great trick... thanks bro!
+Jessi Johnson ty!
you have alien fingers
Kyle Maloney I know👽
Yes alien fingers :-)
thanks man!
dada da you're welcome! I'll be posting more tips and tricks videos soon this month and next!
Hey DJ, just a quick question: where did you get the scratch sound from? Did you do it yourself, off of a song, or what, and how do I get it?
+Sherman Story you can get the scratch sample off of most scratch vinyl records, you can get it off of Ean Golden's soundcloud
soundcloud.com/ean-golden/136-samples-scratches
Went there didn't find it. Any other suggestions.
+Sherman Story the link I sent you has a long mp3 with a bunch of scratch samples. most mp3s of scratch samples are on one continuous mp3 and not individual files.
Great! Thanx for that
Gregor Z you're welcome!
Instead of pressing tap in with the track, hold it down instead with the correct channel selected to sync it.
Should work ok if gridded correctly.
Thx for the tip!
No probs, hope it helps.
Get some technics 1210's and a rane sixty two mixer I'll show how to scratch might do video today

coolllllll
Ty!
Can’t do it 😆
@@leehudson7370 which part are you having a hard time with?
Where can I get the sample from?
Mark Dernley m.soundcloud.com/bigweasleyfan/classic-scratch-samples
it's the second sound
Better don't do this while real djs are watching if you ever want to be respected lol

Eddie halliwell uses this technique and he's what you would call a 'real' dj. You don't see him getting stick for it. 😀 So why should this dude.
That wasn't scratching. That was fake as hell, and sounded bad. Get some Vinyls and stop being a poser!
radwizard I'm well aware that it isn't the normal way of scratching i.e. turntabalism/vinyl records. This is just a different method using the XDJ-RX.
radwizard you don't know what you are on about. This is not a vinyl tutorial and if he wanted to do a vinyl tutorial he would have conected vinyls up to the xdj-rx mixer. Dj Tide is just giving tips for people with new electronic equipment.
The DJ world has moved on from vinyl. Get with the times.
