    Twenty-five huge "Big Boys" were built for the Union Pacific Railroad and operated between Ogden, Utah and Cheyenne, Wyo.
    Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to the Union Pacific in December 1941 and was retired exactly 20 years later, having traveled 1,659,564 km in its 20 years of service.
    Union Pacific repurchased No. 4014 from the RailGiants Museum in Pomona, California in 2013 and relocated it to Cheyenne to begin a multi-year restoration process. It returned to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroa

    So iv been a avid Rivarossi collector for many years, I believe I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 80+ Rivarossi locomotives..back in the 70s 80s and early 90s, these locomotives were considered the elite HO brand to go to.. these were the locomotives at hobby shops that were behind the glass in caes..there was really no competition back then, aside from the cheaper manufacturers like bachman and lifelike...Brass was available but very expensive..these locomotives had brass and metal gears, and the fact that a locomotive 40 plus years old can still run today with some cleaning and lubrication tells you how well they were built..not many manufacturers have built locomotives that were as robust as the Rivarossi brand..a message to hornby/ the Rivarossi name meant dependability back in the day, it meant quality, back then gears where made on watchman's lathes by hand. The mould's for a lot of these locomotives where also very expensive to reproduce..and no offense to hornby but your pretty much using the same mould that was used 50 years ago..I'm happy that you kept the name rivarossi and are producing locomotives under the Rivarossi name..I assume because you know that name has a the following. Please keep up the good work, and remember your roots where that name came from. Business is business i get it..but there is still room for pride.. you have produced a nice locomotive..keep up the good work..

    It shouldn't have the cooling coils on the pilot deck, as those were removed by the early 1950's. Also, it's tooling is almost 50 years old. Compared to the models produced by Mike's Train House, Broadway Limited, and Athearn Genesis, it is crude.

    Loco looks nice... but maybe it's time to retire this layout Hornby? Maybe something that is a bit more adaptable and realistic? Maybe even multiple dioramas (steam countryside, modern image and ambiguous). Maybe one for playtrains? Maybe something that can compliment a range of new, updated and slightly more realistic scenery items (and not the same station platforms and trees we've seen for the past 20-40 years?)
    You can do alot better to present your products, your catalogue photography shows this. I remember being so inspired by some of those dioramas you put out in the 2006 edition. So lets start to push! You got this king.

    • @littlemaster22
      @littlemaster22 Год назад +1

      Also to add... it would make good content for the youtube. Getting people involved in a new layout, step-by-step behind the construction of a new diorama. Teaching people what is involved in a new large-scale layout.

      @@littlemaster22 the company who make the Hornby layouts called Corporate Layouts have some other great layout designs in their portfolio they could build. You might be right in suggesting that they should make some relevant more realistic layouts.

      @littlemaster22 Год назад +1

      @@bentullett6068 Yh for sure. (Btw I'm not hating on "Corporate Layouts". Even the "Hogwarts" layout shown in this video is cool in its own right.)
      But you could also have a layout spanning the entire circumference of the exhibition room, and have more range to showoff their locomotives. More expressive vegetation, topography, high-speed run-ups. Gentle curves and interesting junctions/yards. Take a look at how Bachmann/Marklin/Rapido show their stuff in context :). If we want to preach to the unconverted, we need to spark their imagination right?

    Not very good fit and finish on show there. Poor cab glazing with really crude frames, misaligned number boards, incomplete paint on the firebox, flash lines on multiple moulded details. I suppose you get what you pay for and this is the low budget model of Big Boy out there, but this poor quality on show really does detract.

      @@gamerfan8445 Agreed. Though it must be conceeded that this model is half the price of the other Big Boy models it competes with. The trouble is that this model isn't half the model that they are. I'd say the more expensive models are actually better value for money simply because you get so much more model and features for your money.
