Like 95% percent of these girls get jobs in fields that require empathy, patience and strong people skills. I swear every girl I knew that was like this in high school is in either the medical field, works with children/elderly or in the police force.

Sometimes if they're really busy with people having strokes/heart attacks/broken bones, car wrecks/being abused/etc, so their frustration with calls that shouldn't be coming to them bleeds through. Though I understand why that person called 911, they should have called the police department directly. 911 is for when you're in immediate danger. To me, her tone of voice said " is anyone bleeding, injured, or on fire? Is someone directly threatening you? If the answer to these questions is 'no', then you should have called the non-emergency line.:"

Some phone operators aren't cut to be operators, I dealt with a pretty shitty one when I had to call the police and filed a complaint because of the same apathetic tone during the incident.
It’s the father and son shopping for the sons first car that really hit me tbh.. what was supposed to be a great/proud moment for their family but instead some disgusting weirdo destroyed their lives for no reason.. makes me so mad

Literallt it was so unclear too, she should’ve said “do you want to press charges and take him to court, or just notify the police and have them deal with it however they want”
@@cjgroom109 you’d be surprised with the amount of 911 calls they get on a daily basis for someone simply cutting you off in traffic or pulling in front of you from a parking space. What she meant, so you want to put it out on the radio, (have a cop keep an eye out and follow the car to wait for an infraction) or have a cop come to you as in take a report down, actively pursue the criminal and confront immediately.

This lady probably has been torn apart lol...hopefully just her voice and not identity. This was my thoughts exactly. Even without a history, if someone says "watch the news" to me with a gun I'm calling the cops and telling them what car he normally drives as well as what he took after. I can't imagine just sitting at home watching the news wtf
One correction to this report. Victim Tiana Caruthers did not make a full recovery. She suffers daily from the effects of being shot . She needs help walking, has metal rods in her body and many other injuries that are permanent , endures physical pain everyday in addition to the PTSD she suffers. So many times in mass shootings people often forget about the surviving victims. Just because they did not die, doesn't mean they are going about their life without extreme difficulty. God bless this woman and the other surviving victims

Not just 911 operators. I once called the suicide hotline (part of their slogan is if you just need someone to talk to) as I was not doing very well and had thoughts of harming(Cutting) myself and the operator told me that the line was for people who are going to kill them selves and she wasn’t able to “just talk to me” and needed to free up the line for someone who needed it. 💔

I was in charge of the trauma surgical intensive care unit that night. Probably one of the most traumatic experiences I've had thus far in my career. I remember every minute. This is the first time I've heard the 911 dispatcher and I am appalled.
Imagined of the operator had taken a report and describing of the car and person sooner.

@@jamesbond1231 it is not procedure to be an asshole. I've called in a reckless driver and my 911 operator was not snippy at all. She just asked if I got the plate number, make/model and what direction they were heading. You know, gathering info to actually do her job.

There was a lady trapped in a flood, and the dispatcher practically mocked her up until the point when she drowned.
Cops one time asked me the same question when they responded on scene to a call. The thing that got them taking action was when I asked "What are the options?" "What would you suggest as I'm not trained or qualified to direct you in this situation?"
They came up with a solution quickly.
I'm glad that the first 911 call was released, put that operator on blast.

The job of the dispatcher is to get information so they can contact the proper authorities. When people call 911 they are justifiably shook and tend to ramble. Sometimes the dispatcher has to kind of keep them focused so they can get as many details as possible as fast as possible.
She was a just little more blunt about it.

I'm friends with one of the victims fathers (Abigail). His little girl went through a lot of hardship, and was lucky to survive. After a few surgeries, and a lot of time, she was able to recover. I haven't spoken to my friend in a bit now, but last I heard and saw, they seemed to be doing ok, and she was able to get basically back to normal. I'll never forget checking in on him, asking how his daughters recovery is coming. Especially those first weeks. They also lost some family friends that night, but Abby made it through somehow. They thought she was dead because.. Well, in most occasions, where she was hit, it would have been certainly fatal. I still don't know how the doctors saved her, but I'm so relieved they did. RIP to the victims who didn't make it.

@Jbone Philly we sort of drifted out of touch. Life took us different directions. I still count him as a friend, of course, but he's very busy, as am I. It is understandable, and he knows he can count on me if he ever wants to talk about anything.
I remember seeing her at K Wings games. That was always great to see. I worked at a school where Tyler went. I remember seeing his project in the classroom.
I think it is important to include that Tiana shielded those children with her body. She is a hero!

I hope Kalamazoo County will rethink how they handle victim testimony in the future. We handle it very differently in California

I can't imagine her terror as she protected those children by taking 4 bullets. She could have snatched her child and run, but she stayed to protect the other kids. She wasn't able to walk for the better part of a year afterwards, and had to have parts of bone replaced with cadaver bone her injuries were so catastrophic. And scared as she was, she had the strength to go to court and face him.

i was diagnosed with schizophrenia at twenty one and i've been around people in various stages of treatment for psychotic illnesses ever since. i've got to say, there's nothing particularly _unbelievable_ about the story he initially gave investigators. maybe it sounded ridiculous and cliche to a lot of people, but delusional thinking tends to wear some common motifs in my experience. religion and demons, technology and surveillance, federal and corporate conspiracies, none of these things have been the least bit out of place at some group therapy meetings i've attended. i've personally spent more time discussing mind control than i care to admit.
and i couldn't understand a damn word he was saying in the courtroom, which also isn't out of place in clinical settings. if he faked that shit, he did it well. he had me going.
on the other hand - he swapped cars. he was lucid enough to know that what he was doing was wrong, that his now damaged vehicle would identify him, he was lucid enough to come up with a solution, and he was lucid enough to _lie_ about why he was picking customers up in a different car ... and typically people don't just flit back and forth between lucid and psychotic in a matter of minutes. when you're wound up, you're wound up for hours. _days,_ even.
I hear you, as a caregiver and a psychology student! I agree the courtroom rant was real, he wasn't trying to upset her but the more upset and the louder she got the worse he got. It seems peopel think that you are all in or all out but that's not usually how it works with the mind. As a matter of fact none at all in my studies thus far and in my experience.

I've noticed that 99% of people who try to go the insanity plea route say the exact same thing, "The Voices told me to do it" with absolutely no other context because that's all they know about schizophrenia, the fact this guy had such a _specific_ reasoning honestly makes me more inclined to believe him. Even if he had no prior reported mental health issues, it took 10 years for me to get diagnosed after I first started showing symptoms, so who knows how long he might've had issues that went unseen. Still, like you said, he was definitely lucid enough to make logical decisions during the spree. It's not like that case of the mother whose baby died because she had a psychotic break and dissociated so hard she was basically stood unconscious in one place pushing him in a swing for three days straight. He knew what he was doing was wrong or he wouldn't have had the presence of mind to evade police.
I used to have a friend that had schizophrenia he would mellow out on weed. He was a cool dude he moved to another state and lost contact with him i miss em. But yeah this Jason guy sounds like he was schizophrenic. I got a minor in psychology and this story got me interested. i been trying to find if there's a video of his wife talking about his personality for more evaluation.

Reminds me of that 911 operator that dismissed the woman who was LITERALLY drowning in flash flood water... The dispatcher told her she “shouldn’t have driven into flooded water...” while the poor woman cried and begged for help. Makes me upset just recalling it.... The woman drowned.
Thats such negligence they should have got sued. Disgusting. Its dispatcher job to help out even if they think the victim is foolish.
@@lotorsempire90 From what I can remember the dispatcher had already gotten another job and that call came in on her last day. So she just didn’t give any actual fucks. But the call was released and to hear that woman beg and weep for her life while the dispatcher literally told her to “shut up” and scolded her during her final moments was gut wrenching. The dispatcher never faced charges of negligence or any kind of wrongdoing. I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

I have heard many many recordings from these true crime videos and podcasts... That was THE WORST EVER!!! I cried listening to it. Absolutely AWFUL!!! It was with flash floods everywhere and many people got stranded and she did not deserve to have that 911 operator! 💔
I know that dispatch did not just just say “did you hear shots fired” LITERALLY RIGHT AFTER THE LADY SAID PEOPLE GO SHOT. This drives me insane man , the fury I get when I hear a dispatch like that is unreal
That poor girl testifying about what happened to her really got me. She went through this traumatic and painful ordeal, summoned the courage to sit in court facing the monster who did this to her...and then he starts acting crazy in the middle of her testimony. She was clearly terrified. I wish someone could have gotten up and hugged her while she was crying...

Gonna sound sexist, but most of this behavior comes from lazy female dispatchers. One in a county near me was fired for getting caught sleeping on the job, twice. Usually the men get shit for being too aggressive with a caller but in that case they are trying to get answers out of someone to do their job and save someone's life.

Kalamazoo is my home town, I lived right by where they shot Tiana. I didn’t know her personally, but I am very grateful to hear that she recovered from those 4 shots she took protecting her children.

Some of these dispatchers have no business in that line of work, the one I knew had a god complex, and boasted about how "important" she is.
I recall there were a few 911 operators who hanged up on people dying because the situation was irritating

And oh the stories... other dispatchers that for the most part okay but a few that were sleeping around with married cops, getting busted for drugs, and an attitude that they were being bothered when calls came in yet acted like they were actually helping people.
Could you imagine if she was easier to talk to? Maybe instead of just making them aware he would asked for a police officer to give them more detail/info.

I wouldn't. My husband has a CCP so him having a gun isn't unusual. Knowing him as I do, there's no reason to call the police. The news part, of course I'd be curious as all get out but still, it would never cross my mind that he was going to actually hurt or kill other people.

That is why I would be calling them, to provide that advice. God, my heart just breaks for Tiana. For everyone involved of course, but her pain is so visceral. I can’t imagine being shot trying to protect children and believing you would bleed out in front of your baby. That’s unimaginable trauma.

Inside many feel lonely, misunderstood and frustrated... especially those with too few friends.
But we keep on accumulating frustration inside like a boiler until it bursts someway or another.
So he says that many men are potential time bombs, some snap, some get pretty sick, some abandon their families searching for adventure... The real danger is that THIS could happen more often than we see.
We call it middle age crisis, but it goes far beyond getting a bike and a lover...

I try to tell everything my parents. I'm depressed, 33, useless and I wish I was never born. Only thing keeping me alive are my primal self-preservation insticts, fear of death. I say to myself I didn't exist for 13,5 billion years and I was fine (if we count time from the big bang). I tell myself this, yet I can't bring to kill myself, I'm too afraid.
But there are dark things, even I don't wish to speak off, not to my family, not here. It's all those pills that keep fuking up my brain. And lately I had a falling out with my family, I live with them, but sometimes I wish for something bad to happen, genuinely and that made me always scared, not anymore, at least not how it used to. But after a while I feel very guilty for having such thoughts.
I hate society, an accident (let's call it that) and high school made me into who I am today, a useless parasite, because the accident made ugly as hell, to the point people laughed. You know you see people and you don't give it a second thought? Well, you'd stop to look at, or rather stare at me, this is how ugly I am. My only hope is a surgical operation to correct my face, otherwise I can forget socializing ever with other people, not to mention women. Though I gotta say this pandemic has one good thing going for it: I can wear a mask and people will never see my face, I act normal with with a mask and I can finally see so much more, after having for 16 years to hide my hideous face under a hood and a cap, lowering my face down as much as possible (meaning to not look suspicious, but I do unfortunately).
I was diagnosed of course with bdd (which is bs) and depression, the latter I agree with.
Some people hide their feelings very well, they have dark thoughts regarding future, existential crisis, middle age crisis, financial issues, work related, colleagues, partners, family etc.
I'm sure there are many more people that everyone knows as normal, but in reality are like this, they are just very strong-willed and they don't talk about their dark thoughts.
Having no history of mental illness, I doubt it, it was just not reported or he wasn't showing any signs outside of his body/mind.
He may have been a victim of something very awful and we will never know about, like rape for example: he might have been assaulted and it scarred him, so much in fact he just thought: ef it, killed people, then maybe regretted it, but it was too late.

@Olivia B Apparently I should have said responsible concealed carrier. I know of many situations that were stopped immediately with one careful carrier. Thank God for those brave souls who step up to help. Maybe a better screening process for violent offenders.

My stomach dropped when I saw the title of this. I lived off of 9th street when this happened. No one knew what was going on, all we knew was there were shootings going on around the town and people were dying. It was terrifying. And the victims were so random and it was so awful seeing their family's pain.
I lived in Campus Court! but was out walking from a bar when my friend and I saw 12 cops go flying by, we have no clue what was going on until we got to the next bar, was terrified to be out. There was so much confusion as to where the Uber shooter was. So horrible for those innocent families

Yeah, I lived at Village Square Apartments and was hanging out with my bestie when we heard about the shooting on Stadium Dr and then at the Cracker Barrel, where her and her mom and I had plans to go the next day and we were shitting bricks, also partly due to that is the route she takes to get home (Stadium) in Parchment. It felt so close to home and we cried over hearing those poor people being shot. I remember the community rallied around the 14 year old girl with support and money towards her medical expenses but so very few did around Tiana Carruthers and that was heartbreaking to see too.

There were a TON of charities that helped with their funeral expenses, a few that were selling shirts that all the proceeds went to all the victims who were impacted, and many, many churches that were fundraising and donated. How did Uber not immediately suspend this guy? Like noone even left a review saying "I almost died"? He was able to get more customers throughout the day

I had to scroll down a lot for this comment. That first guy must've left a really bad review, explaining the problem, yet Dalton still got passengers all the rest of the day.
Or how did the cops not try using the Uber app to get some kind of info at least, possibly even locating him.
With the way Tianna was screaming and crying on the stand, I thought maybe I missed that asshat in orange lunging at her. I scrolled back and he only pretended to faint. Her PTSD must be pretty severe but she got on the stand anyway. She’s a brave woman.

I knew this guy. I live in Kalamazoo and was in the Kalamazoo County Police Expolorers with his son Clayton. He was at every meeting and seemed to be a normal dad supporting his son. He would talk to everyone after the meetings and hang out for a bit and nothing ever stood out about him. Didnt realize it was him until another one of my friends who was in the explorers told me to turn on the news and told me it was claytons dad. Still shocks me to this day
Sometimes it’s those really “normal” looking people and they turn out to be the most twisted. Like Jeffrey Dahmer would have fooled the hell out of me.
He’s ruined Clayton’s life,too.

I feel really sad for Clayton. His kids also had their lives turned completely upside-down that day. I hope Clayton is doing OK and has managed to find some healing and peace.
I am from Kalamazoo also. I will never forget this one. Tiana was incredibly brave and saved those kids lives. The girlfriend, luckily hid in the back of her boyfriends dad’s car, otherwise he would have killed her also. The young girl who survived when her grandma and her 3 friends all passed and that young lady is still undergoing recovery.
His wife divorced him and changed her and the kids names. Finally, and this is the ironic one- Jason graduated from a smaller town’s high school, Comstock High and including Jason, 3 people became murderer’s that went to that school (not during the time they attended all later in life)…. Each of those are wild stories also. UGH!!!
