I'm finding the Rita/Bradley storyline very drawn out and tedious. I just googled it to find out how much longer it goes on. No spoilers but I'm tempted to skip until it's over. This year I've been binge-watching from the early 70s and have loved catching up on the brilliant classic Corrie of old, but it seems the closer we get to the 90s the more glimpses there are of the unwatchable daftness to come. Shame.

@@paullynton-green6570 Yes, story lines becoming more extreme, Rita dealing with a deeply resentful ex into tortuous mind games. Ken's drawn out affair, admittedly, with someone as boring as him. Mike Baldwin's decline into a greedy, unfeeling nasty piece of work. Mavis and Derek still twitter and flap as always.
But gone are the days when Hilda's reaction to Stan and Eddie getting a bunch of chickens and buying eggs to pretend they were viable and laying was a story. Or the machinations Mrs walker went through competing with Nelly Harvey, trying to elevate the Rovers above the back streets and casting her employees in the role of servants.
What happened was a decline, down and down; half the cast ended up serving prison sentences for fraud, attempted murder, murder, armed robbery, GBH, etc. Every character had some kind of trauma in their past that was bound to explode or aggressively fizz at some stage. Or be Fizz with attendant problems. The programme died but no one has had the decency to bury it.

Men went out to hunt for food/work because they are (or were until recently when their testosterone levels have plummeted) STRONGER. Estrogen and testosterone are REAL things that do affect behavior. Sorry if you don’t like it or if you think it makes you popular but we are on the wrong track. Kids need moms to raise them, not pay someone, who doesn’t love the kids, to merely keep them alive. Then they are too tired from doing a meaningless job, instead of doing the most important job in the world…..raising the next generation. The way we live now is upside down, inside out and backward. A return to traditional gender roles would be a god send.

Now in my 60s I can see Ken is a pure narcissist and totally out for personal gratification and doesn't care who he hurts in the process. I know it’s all fiction and the writers’ intention was to manipulate viewers. It was so very well written and far superior to Richard Hillman, Geoff Metcalfe and Pat Phelan in later years. Mike would have found out who owned the land through contacts and when he found out the obvious he would have pushed for a false interest in the land around the petrol station...and so on and so on. This is what I meant about some of the characters being out of character. Mike just sold his factory as a going concern. Jones knew this and still bought it like a mug! Mike is not only schrewed but a bloody genius.
