Yeah I'm looking forward to some later flights with it too. It was already much darker than it looked in the camera, like most low light cameras tend to do... lol
Love that ratel camera too stocked up on a few also. Didn't find the nd8 filters yet separately . I Paired it with a Rush tank vtx at 800mw and Iflight 150mm pagoda antenna .works wonders. 👍👍
I haven't seen the filters either. I figure one or two should be more than enough, just stick it on whatever I'm flying at the time. I'm curious to see how it works on a bright day though. Most of my flying is late in the evening, not sure when I'll get to use it.
Glad that the new settings worked for you too to eliminate the horizon drift. :) I also have 3 Caddx Ratel in use and I love this camera. No matter if on FW or copter.
Pleased you did this test at sunset, rather than direct Midday overhead sun like everyone else seems to do. Here in the UK, lighting is gloomy for nearly 6 months, not sunny. I have seen this camera in direct sunlight and it's very impressive, so I would like to see a Midday flight too, if wind conditions allow it....The manual settings were of interest too, nice review. Be a nice camera for my long range 5 inch quad....
Yeah it seems most of the flying I do this time of year is late in the evening, it's when I have time and the wing usually calms later in the day. I enjoy flying in the evenings anyway. The wind for that flight was around 10-12mph at altitude judging by the GPS speeds. I like how well the little Eagle handled it for a relatively small and light plane. The more I fly this little one the more I'm liking it, glad I put a flight controller in it and set it up with FPV... lol If I'm being 100% honest, since I got the Binary and now this little Eagle flying well, I haven't missed flying the Skyhunter. I'm not sure I'll ever make it official, but it wouldn't surprise me if I end up retiring that one for a while... It's earned it's spot hanging fromt he ceiling in my shop... lol It will never be totally retired though!
@bonafidepirate lol.. yeah, my old Skywalker is a Hangar Queen too...Today I ordered a Ratel...from the EU Warehouse..😎😎😎 Im hoping to get the new (curved) 2.1mm lense and the screw on backplate. The older (flat) lense suffers from some fisheye apparently)...Thanks for the tweaks, I will try them myself.
Helpful video as always. Sure wish that you would include a list of the equipment you use in all of your reviews. In this video, what was the aircraft? The OSD? The vTx? Your pan and tilt mount for this camera? How about the radio equipment. It could be a list that you save and edit as necessary to paste into your videos. I like your manner, but as your viewers increase you may forget that we aren't all familiar with your gear. Thanks.
I thought most people watching my channel would be familiar with it, I just finished up a series of videos on the plane. Everything is answers in the playlist of videos here: ruclips.net/p/PL2cI_igmLd9YEz0e8PHR57pSYddi-SyGL (Maybe too much detail... lol)
That looks like such a fun build. The landing gear does a good job in the grass. I agree the camera does do a fine job, I'm keeping the Ratel on my wanted list. I'm really glad you've done some demoing of the R9M system, since I got that when my EzUHF didn't like my radio (RFI from EzUHF made my radio go nuts), but the R9M seems to be working fine so far. I'm slowly working on a build using a fairly unknown FC known by such names as SN-L Sinan and AFPV Owl (On Banggood), but It's going slowly since it's my first attempt at fixed wing with FC and I still need to buy some parts. It'd be cool if you would check into it, I would love to see your take on it. There's only a few videos demoing it on RUclips so far, but it looks nice with the PixelOSD.
I saw that OSD/AP for sale, but haven't seen much about it. I looked through the manual a while back, but at the time I was just starting to try out iNav and thought that was a better option, at least better supported by a larger community... lol I do like the looks of it's OSD on screen better though.
@@bonafidepirate There's a thread on rcgroups and jwtfpv has been creating excellent support docs based on his use of the system. It is pretty basic but supports their antenna tracker and air speed sensor. It is set up through the OSD menu which you get to by toggling the mode switch on channel 5, two or three times. It doesn't allow in flight setup though. It looks like they're working on another one that will support waypoints. I like that the price is pretty good for what it does.
Nice! They really are a nice little camera, hard to beat it unless it's missing some extra feature you need. I like a good simple FPV cam though to use with my own OSD and such. It's perfect! lol
My Ratel has arrived and I tweaked that noise away as you suggested..It's on PAL 4:3 and I'm impressed with the image..I got the new screw on back and 2.1 lense..so I'm pretty happy...LR 5 inch quad with 1280 video..should be good...:)
Yeah this one is every bit as good as any other camera I've used from any brand, and better than most... lol If you want a cheap camera, don't care about internal OSD and audio, but want no compromise and only the best image, it's going to be hard to beat it, unless something else comes out. I don't think there's anything out there right now that can.
Man, amazing review! I didn't know your channel before, just subscribed! 😃 Tomorrow during the day I'm going to watch it fully! Anyway, I really love this camera's image. It's even better than a GoPro! (I mean the colors and so on, not the quality.)
I like the tip on using the 3DNR to help with the sharpness. I'll have to try your settings. The only thing I have changed manually is turning the color down just a tad. When flying mid day in the sunny high desert where I live, the colors can be a bit too bright.
I haven't looked to see what others are using as far as settings, just ran through them and found what seemed to look the best, at least so far. I may tweak things as I fly it, but so far it looks every bit as good as I'd hoped it would! lol
I honestly haven't see a log about it, since most everything that's popped up has been with quads (not surprising). That said, I have seen a couple of people flying it on fixed wing. It's definitely outside my budget though, and I doubt I'll have one any time soon... lol
Thanks! I use Vegas that was originally form Sony, now Magix owns it. It's OK, but I think there's probably better options out there. I've used Vegas so long I find it hard to make the switch to something else though... lol
Do you have any recommendations, on use of space, I now have so many wings my studio is BEYOND full, I noticed that you keep your area very clean and do you keep your wings in a separate room? I only have one room to work with so I'm kinda Scratching my head... Lol and yea u sold me on the cam, want one awesome!
I wish I could help! lol I was using a room in the house, and outgrew that so I build the shop out back. Now it's full too! I just moved a bunch of older planes that I never fly back into the house for storage. I wish there were some local people that flew, I'd hand down some planes... lol It's not really cost effective to ship built up planes. I'm going to start leaving them at people's doorstep or something! haha I think we need a video from Andrew Newton on storing models, he always seems to have a shed full in the background.
Kind of wondering... don't you ever get tired of flying on the same place again and again!! By the way excellent video I hate you don't have ANY Glitches on your video feed! you probably have secret that you don't share with any one about it!
Nah, I never get tired of flying the area. I know it so well, it's "home"... lol That said, I'd be shocked to find an area where people would care if I flew here. As long as you're not damaging property or bothering someone, generally no one cares what we do out here. Private hunting clubs are about the only place they'll make a fuss over if trespassing, but even so, most of the wooded areas I fly over here are those clubs. They don't even care if I fly over them. The few that have mentioned it after spotting a plane say it's cool! lol No secret to the solid video, I just landed on gear that works for me over the years. I usually fly with a combo of the tan Racewood receivers, Partom video transmitters, and linear antennas. I flew with a patch for a long time, then last year or so I started using the biquad I made and tuned, and always a dipole of some sort in the air. This little Eagle has the Sunflytek transmitter module that's working well so far, apart from the audio subcarrier not matching any of my receivers. They do have a receiver module as well that might be fun to try, but I'd be surprised if it's as good as the Racewood receivers, or even a good Lawmate or RMRC one. Who knows though, the transmitter is working better than I thought it might... lol
