    Hey Nick, I just came to the realization, you know who you are ?? You, Nick Burns, are salt of the earth, true as my grandmother !! I realized you are just like my uncle Brian ( RIP ), who was also salt of the earth.
    What does that mean ? Well , to me ( as my grandma explained it, and it made sense ) it means a person who adds to a group ( or community ) the same as salt adds to
    many dishes. It's not the flavor, it's the enhancement, it's not the seasoning, but what brings the seasoning out.
    You round out the hype and exclamations, enhance the positive , and never overshadow the main dish. And I don't even cook, LOL !! Thanks again for your wonderful reviews, ETC !!!

    I know this camera is a year old, but the baby ratel 2 is still my go-to camera for my drones. The starlight capability of this camera is quite literally unbelievable. under nothing but the light of a full moon and a street light off in the distance, this thing can see the colors of my trees and lawn. The ultra light weight of them helps my Diatone GTR 3" clock in at over 100 miles per hour as well. I have a couple of these mounted to some 1/32 scale rock bouncers (the Orlandoo Hunter OH32X01 and the Doorok Rock Racer from Tiny4x4. The camera's compact size helps them fit anywhere and the starlight sensors mean that I won't get lost in dark places. My students and I drive them all over the school, through classrooms and offices, and we have the video feed up on the big screen in the classroom. They are a huge hit with everyone, an unusually welcome distraction, met with big smiles and waves, and of course everyone wants to stand there and have you to drive between their feet.

    Nick, I just remembered about a thunderstorm I saw when I was a kid...
    I was in my parent's farm, it should've been around 1990... And when it started me, my mother and a woman who worked there got stuck in a small kitchen separated from the rest of the house... It's where there's a wood burning stove... And it was absolutely crazy!
    A small tornado started there, it wasn't even F1 I believe, but it was ripping apart a tree near the house and bringing huge pieces of it into a wall outside the kitchen's door... And lightning! One after the other, striking the backyard, around 50m from where we were. I felt a shock coming from my foot up to my knees that day! 😬
    So, yeah... Those things can be really dangerous!!! Your daughter isn't wrong to fear it.

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  3 года назад +1

      No she isn't wrong. But I am sure not telling her about the seriousness of mother nature. I couldn't number the number of tornadoes I have seen or been near. Its very common here. As a kid I was out on my bike and saw three different tornadoes in three different directions. They all looked like they were on the ground, but it was farmland and I could see they were a long distance away. I did decide to go home. The sirens wouldn't go off until they were close, now they seem to go off so much sooner.

    During the first test, looking into the garage, I definitely notice the original is a little green or washed out compared to the V2. The V2 seemed a little darker when the garage was in the peripheral, but still not too bad. They also seem to have fixed the mild oversaturation or red tinge. I didn't see it as noticeably on the Ratel baby 2.

    That is an impressive camera.
    Outdoors:
    Baby Ratel 2 has a little more detail, but I like the colors of the original better.
    Baby Ratel 2 looks like it has a little more dynamic range with the sky and sun.
    Indoors:
    Baby Ratel 1 looks more hazy
    Night:
    Baby Ratel 2 definitely looks better. The colors and noise are improved a bit.

    Nick, if it is the same sensor, the baby ratel 2 have superior processing, you don't see that bluish cast that the original baby ratel has, plus on low light can you see more sensitivity and less noise, so you have a winner there. Baby Ratel 2 all the way !!

    Thanks for another great Nick Burns video. The differences in daylight and indoor lighting are minimal. The Baby Ratel 2 _may_ be a fraction sharper than the original and the color temperature is just a bit cooler. I like to fly well into the evening and where it really counts for me (low light performance) the Baby 2 is slightly, but noticeably better. It is interesting that it does so with a smaller lens. To me this suggests that there is a different sensor. I wonder what the Baby 2 with the original lens would be like???

      @@NickBurnsFPV Thank you for replying so quickly! I'll have a look. Also, am I wrong in thinking this is the best whoop sized camera out there right now? I'm kinda confused why everyone isn't just getting these instead of all the other options I've seen so far. Even the often recommended "ant" doesn't hold a candle to this. Am I missing something?

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  3 года назад

      @@thesoundyouneed1 I think what you might be missing is weight. With whoops the lower the weight the better the performance and longer the flight time. If we add 2grams over say a 1.3gram camera that can be a 10% increase in weight, ~10% less performance and flight time.

  • @sixtofive

    For analog this is hard to beat, especially paired with an onboard dvr. I'm still surprised sometimes how good the video quality is for analog 720p recording using this camera in 16:9.

      @PeterMMMMM 2 года назад +1

      Hi Nick, between the Caddx ant, ratel 2 and the baby ratel 2... Is there a big difference in image quality? All the online demos look the same to me.

    • @sixtofive
      @sixtofive 2 года назад +1

      @@PeterMMMMM I've used all 3. The ratel cameras have a slight edge to my eyes. The ant is still a good camera, but you sacrifice a little picture quality for a lighter camera. If you're going to use it for a tiny whoop up to 85mm/2" build the weight savings is probably worth it. For 2 1/2" and up the quad should be able to carry the extra weight without any issues if you'd prefer higher quality video. One area that there is actually a big difference is that the ratel cameras perform much better in low light conditions. In full daylight, it's harder to tell the difference.

    The only real difference I can see is the color temperature. The Baby Ratel 2 looks a bit colder. This seems to make the sky look slightly unnatural, not a problem for me but might bother some.
    And in the night footage the Ratel 2 indeed does quite a bit better.

    • @Eff917
      @Eff917 3 года назад

      The ratel 2's color balance seems to wander a bit, you can see it on the blue bucket and sign outside the garage are more purple from a distance. Also in the flight footage the sky changes between blue and purple back and forth.
