Frank, I was waiting for this one..nice one....new background as well.....for the next one it will be interesting reviewing the new Dodge charger Daytona. I think designers are begining to realize the big oportunity electric cars are giving to us , now that we don't need that big space were used to be the combustion motor, we designers, can replaced that big empty space with anything else. Agreed. Mercedes is knocking this idea of going back in time for inspiration out of the park in my opinion, and BMW would do well to pay homage to it's past a little more. They mastered the front end headlights this concept has in the eighties and nineties then moved away from it. Their loss is Hyundai's gain.

Unlike a lot of cars today, I love every angle/shot of this car. Some cars seem to focus more on the front or rear/the overall design language doesn’t match throughout the car. However, with this, this car sure is gorgeous. I can’t tell if I like the front or back view more, but they both remind me a bit of the Toyota Celica from around 1977. Not to say they were the first to do that design, but it’s what immediately came to mind. Either way, I love it! I love how Hyundai is coming up with these retro-cyberpunk designs and think they would really find a market if put into production. I also agree that a better spoiler could be chosen for the design. I would think a spoiler more like the one on the Ferrari F40 in the same color as the body would work better, but instead of having the supports be angled straight up, it could be slanted back so that, in a side view profile, the supports are parallel with the line made by the side view of the rear bumper, rather than directly perpendicular with the rear fenders. Thus, the lines of the trunk roof and the back bumper do not converge, but rather alter the flow of the shape to rise a bit up from where it is at the front of the car.
Hyundai designers seem to have a good idea of what people like. Older people like the old stuff, and young people like the cyberpunk stuff, which are a mix of high-tech and oldschool 70s-80s. It think it's an approach that satisfies both parties. The nostalgia and the futuristic.
I remember watching SCI-FI movies and games, seeing their car concepts and set designs and thinking "Why can't we have these designs in real life?" then comes Hyundai to bring those design languages to reality. I hope to see such design languages continue into the future. Life is gonna be tough, we might as well have something good to look at while we try to get through it.
To be honest this car is one of the only designs that give me hope in modern automotive design. I have been dreaming about and sketching cars like this for a while and seeing it blew my mind. This is the car I have been thinking of. This is the car that makes me want to draw.
One of my favorite designs of all time, especially as a Giugiaro fan. I wish this was what DeLorean was releasing. Although a bit poetic that it's based on his pony design.
@@MaximizedAction😂😂😂 U must be young, if the same materials & tech was available don’t u think this would’ve made it back then. It’s easy to take someone else’s idea & put a better spin on it when you have a multi million dollar company behind you
The front styling strongly reminds me of the Lancia 037, with the blistered front fender sides that smoothly transition to the flatness of the hood, and incorporating those rear-facing side vents. Which isn't a bad thing by any means. 👍
Totally agree on the spoiler, it almost looks like a genuine GT racing spoiler, and just looks “tacked on” instead of something that more naturally matches the rest of the design.
There is now a century of car design to "draw" from. And after extreme pendulumlike swings from round to edgy from the late 80s to the early 2000s, it is really true what is stated in this video that from now on there is such a great chance to apply so many aspects to a cars appearance. The delicate creases of the 60s applied to aerodynamic shapes is something that I imagine. Even the designers of the coach built mega cars of the 30s would have a bright future nowadays 😊
Brilliant presentation and analysis! Aside from that, just pay attention to how Hyundai is building its visual identity and breed, for the lack of the better definition. N74, Ioniq 5, Elantra are starting to share the visual elements and build this recognizable manufacturer's design, just like the pre-Bangle generations of BMW did.
This design is wonderful. And what a magical screen! Well, I would change some parts, on the one hand I would put a black rear spoiler from the Citroen CX, and on the other hand I would change the rims for Corvette C4 rims. I wish cars like the N Vision 74 or the 2010 Audi Quattro Concept were made. Great video!
3 good lines + unique identity = great design. Just like an Audi TT. I'm driving a black 2nd gen 2011 TTS. Very, very unique design. Love it, just like this N 74.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! I feel like I owe you some tuition! You really made me think much more carefully about a car I had considered the ultimate in fan-boy service (not that's there's anything wrong with that, I'm a fan boy)... Let's hope we start to see more Guigaro-inspired cars in the next few years! Can't wait for the next video!!!
Glad to see you back Frank, also i want to take this oportunity to tell you that Rockstar watched your video about the new countach and pretty much aplied everything you said you would do to improve the design, take a look at it if you have the will and time. And Hyundai is pretty much one of the most exciting brands in terms of design in these recent times, a few years back people laugh and made jokes in movies about Hyundai and look how much they grow. Also i like this new style of filming, it's interactive and easier for most people to understand because it's even more visual, but i didn't mind the old one too, because it had a more personal and intimate feeling.
@@FrankStephensondesign Thank you, for dedicating some of your time to entertain us, to inspire us, to teach us and explaining the perspective of a designer when you see something that maybe makes you fall in love or sometimes maybe not so much, but either way we who watch your content are certainly more educated about the subject.
i love the presentation on this video. i thought you were taking footage from hyundai's presentation of the car but eventually i realized it's part of this video's production. thanks!
Glad to see you back Frank, especially with this beauty! Your new virtual headquarter fits well to this subject, and the production quality is top notch. Thank you for making these videos!
Loved the video! The new format and effects really pushed this far beyond what we all already expected from your awesome videos. I believe this car is an absolute stunner and its design language shows that what didnt work back then might just work right now. Also loved the sketch phase!!
This car design is impressive, I really like it, it has such a presence. The video is as impressive too. Great Job Frank! And Thank you for giving us this quality of material
Glad to see you again Frank! Impressive new video, but I miss the old ones, In your man cave, with the pen. Do not abandone this previous format completely, please. 😀
What a great presentation. That was worth the effort. It reminds me of those wonderful TV productions from childhood where a science professor in a cool studio setting would give insights that were otherwise hard to obtain. Super!
When i saw this car i immediately hoped you would feature this car on your channel. I like this design because all cars are slowly developing into eggs on wheels.
A mix between a delorean, cyber computer game car, a mad max car, 70s look and modern touches added. The hyundai signature are the lights for sure, their trademark signature.
I also love it & your analytical breakdown is insightful and brilliant as always. I tend to agree re the spoiler - it’s a fine line between purpose & vulgarity. It should still be bold but more subtle. The 911 974 ‘whale tale’ worked for me, even being quite large as it never looked over the top. If a spoiler isn’t needed for performance on this car I would lose altogether (or have auto-raise). If fixed, then something in the 964 direction but even more subtle. The car has such incredible presence already.
The green screen reflection is. a little jarring. But the overall production design is absolutely incredible. I love this dearly Frank. Thank you for inspiring us all
Welcome back Frank, and thank you for this spectacular analysis. The car certainly has a presence to say the least. There are a few matters which might be up for debate. I do agree on the spoiler since it’s very unnecessary indeed. Another issue for me personally is the rear diffuser. Its design looks too busy for my eyes to a point that it kills it for me. Take off the spoiler and make the diffuser cleaner, more pleasant to look at. The wheels are another issue; not too keen on them tbh. Personally for me, the entire design is a tad mish mash here and there, and does leave me confused a bit. It needs some cleaning up I think. However, I’m not a professional designer and I’m trying to get into the heads of the design team on this one, but it’s a long stretch I find. Many elements are fantastic and highly expressive, other ones might need some further deliberation perhaps. All the best, and thank you for another brilliant upload. Cherio and ciao.
I actually got goosebumps seeing this car. It's probably the only EV where you get out to charge it and are actually excited solely because you can look at it from the outside. Makes the EV future that is upon us actually a lot more exciting, even for petrol heads like me.
Welcome back, Frank. We have eagerly awaited your glorious return. And you arrived with a BANG. This is your greatest video yet. Because you took your format to level 💯 As for that wonderful Hyundai concept, l now understand why it reminded me of the DeLorean.
This is some very high quality content. I'm blown away by the new video style. The colours, the editing, the presentation it's all absolutely top notch. You've kinda made me fall in love with this car with the analysis and complimentary synthwave style music. Just beautiful. I hope other manufactures start designing some retro-future cars. Something about the 70s / 80s look in combination with new tech is very special. Sadly though I feel like as the design is altered to meet all the regulations the car will lose it's magic.
They released Ionic 5, Ionic 6 with so many accents, features you would rather think would be scrapped on concept lvl. Just wow. If they decide to produce this phenomenally looking car and treat concept->serial production the same way, I will put my name in waiting list the minute I hear they are producing it :)
I love the new format. As for the car, it's a Pony/Delorean/Delta Integrale/Ur quattro gone through a time machine and landed in 2022. I can't fault any of it. It's almost picking one of Megadeth/Metallica/Anthrax/Slayer and having a tribute band do a medley of their best song in 2022.
That's a good analogy, but I really don't like this car.... It feels like it's trying too hard to be retro while still marking all the check marks what's cool in automotive culture... Group 5 Box flares check, turbo fan wheels check, spoiler check, etc.....
It's been to long Frank glad yr back also incredible video as always can't wait for what's in store for the future I really like this style of video with u in front of the screen
Such a privilege to watch you work Frank. Grew up appreciating your designs and reading your name in the magazines, but these videos provide a layperson like me a whole new dimension to car design. Would love to see you review some Kei cars. The mid-engined ABC cars from the late 80s, early 90s, and the Honda S660 from the recent past.
And it drives like a go kart, too. The Wing is rather video game-esque adds the Need For Speed Most Wanted '05 flavour. As soon as I saw it I thought the designer clearly wanted that mid 2000s underground race car vibe. By the way, holy crap that editing on the video is SSS. I love this layout with the interactive board it like graduating from a bicycle to bike.
Dont forget, this car is much more than a styling exercise. Its a future tech innovation concept car with a lightweght hydrogen unit powering electric motors. Hyundai have created a stunning piece of design AND technological innovation.
Lovely vid Frank, love the statement design is science. I have often discussions with people argueing why the find something ugly while infact the design is matching in a lot of ways.
Thank you for this interesting presentation and analysis! I personally think that the future of car design has little to offer in general. My taste is becoming saturated with modern super flat hypercars. BACK TO THE FUTURE is key because the true car lovers are nostalgic and will apreciate everything retro style. E.g. why do famous enthusiasts tend to shift to manual transmissions nowadays. So I know what I would like to do in the future - build / design and interprete classic cars from plastic bricks.
I see it more as a retro design - a good one nonetheless. It definitely picks up on a lot of the design cues from the "wedge era" of design. The one aspect I have a little difficulty with is the aero. In particular: the side ducting, the rear diffuser, and the rear spoiler - it's quite exaggerated. It brings to mind some of the outrageous Group B rally cars of the 80s - fantastic in their own right, but a bit too out-there for a production car.
This mix of retro straight lines with futuristic curves is really exciting! Two languages as so well The Master pointed out! A real masterpiece! Congrats for the new video concept Master! Keep up the good work!
Frank, I enjoy all of your videos and this one is about a car I happen to be very excited about (as an employee at a Hyundai-funded company) A couple comments. I've learned so much from listening to these. Thank you. 2- I like the desk version more. It's more engaging, relaxed. I appreciate watching people's hands work. It's a better way to watch the mind translate these ideas, the audio was better and the scene was calming in a way. 3- totally lame to say this but it's HunDay like Sunday with an H. Nobody says it right, including me until I got training. Cheers and keep it up.
i have just discovered your channel but i am absolutely amazed bye your video design and music choice, coupled with your analysis. I really got goosebumbs halfway through very good job sir!
Can't deny the videogame influence here. It looks amazing and Hyundai are really knocking it out the park atm. I love the 3 diagonal lines in the side profile. It has a lot of old rally audi quattro in it too. There's a lot of "rocket bunny" inspiration too.
Nice to see you back Frank! The new way you presented is definitely more clear than illustrating on the iPad. But honestly I love to see your delicately decorated studio which tells the audience that you are a professional designer. Either ways I love your contents. Please keep it coming!
I sincerely hope that this car will be released rather than staying as a concept car. For over 20 years, I haven't had a car I'd like to own because of the design alone. But this car will make my dream come true. The design of this car is truly fascinating. The 21st century is indeed the era of Korea.
What a fascinating and in depth video. I learned a lot from this presentation. You speak very passionately about this vehicle and how it makes you feel emotionally. I find myself feeling the same way when I first saw it. I connected to it instantly. The front of the car reminded me of my 1988 Toyota MR2 The led lights and the design of the rest of the car looks 80's like. I would love to see this in person. This would be a car I'd purchase if money wasn't a factor.
You gone from reviewing on a desk to full immersive CG world!!! Love how you educate audiences right down to the fundamentals,it help contribute to spreading interests of Automotive Design Industry so well that more people can easily digest and appreciate the work we do everyday 🎉
Great to have you back, Frank. As usual, I am in agreement with all of your opinions on the car. Without the wing, it'd probably hit 9.7 or 9.8 Retro is fine when the 3 main design points you mention are there. The way I look at it, if an old design has those points and someone says that a new design is retro, based on an older design, and the 3 main design points are there, who cares if it's retro?
Hey there Frank! :) I have been waiting for your take on these new Amazing looking retro art pieces! :D Yes, I do love the look of these things very much but I cant wait to see what you have to add. Thanks for the videos and take care!
Even it's square vs. round headlights, the front reminds me of the GTV-6 Alfa Romeo of the 70s and early 80s. And so does the silhouette from the side when the spoiler is chopped.
This new way of presenting your content, personally I love it. This is really engaging and I feel we see you at work in a way that really excites. I really hope this car somehow makes it into production. It's one of the most interesting designs I have seen.

I am so glad to see you back Frank, and by the way the new style of filming is just so good.Hope to see more video from you in the future.
Great production value! The CG background with the greenscreen gives off some charming 90s space opera movie vibes.
The production value on this video is off the hook!
This Car looks amazing i dig the 80's vibes of style design, and i don't care what other people thing. This Car looks freaking Awesome !!!
I think anyone that doesn't like the design of this car has a carrot up their arse.
3 good lines + unique identity = great design. Just like an Audi TT. I'm driving a black 2nd gen 2011 TTS. Very, very unique design. Love it, just like this N 74.
great update! and fresh new format!
thanks for the come back
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
🙏👍
Wow what an impressive production value! Thank you Frank for such detailed and great analysis!
Many thanks! 💥👍
100% agree on the spoiler, looks cleaner and better without it.
Loved the video! The new format and effects really pushed this far beyond what we all already expected from your awesome videos. I believe this car is an absolute stunner and its design language shows that what didnt work back then might just work right now.
Also loved the sketch phase!!
Frank you are a blessing for all of us, thank you for share your videos
🙏👍
This car design is impressive, I really like it, it has such a presence.
The video is as impressive too. Great Job Frank! And Thank you for giving us this quality of material
Glad to see you again Frank! Impressive new video, but I miss the old ones, In your man cave, with the pen. Do not abandone this previous format completely, please. 😀
What a great presentation. That was worth the effort. It reminds me of those wonderful TV productions from childhood where a science professor in a cool studio setting would give insights that were otherwise hard to obtain. Super!
Looking good Frank! The whole look works!
When i saw this car i immediately hoped you would feature this car on your channel. I like this design because all cars are slowly developing into eggs on wheels.
I'm loving this format. It reminded me of college when I was studying industrial design.
Wow, your production level is outstanding, it looks great.
I'm so glad to still see this design style in today's world. And what an appropriate proportion are designed in this car! This is Fantastic!
A day when Frank uploads is a good day
A mix between a delorean, cyber computer game car, a mad max car, 70s look and modern touches added.
Thank you for inspiring us all
I very much enjoyed the video. The use of the touch screen really brought your analysis home.
Because you took your format to level 💯
As for that wonderful Hyundai concept, l now understand why it reminded me of the DeLorean.
It's been to long Frank glad yr back also incredible video as always can't wait for what's in store for the future
I really like this style of video with u in front of the screen
10 years ago, I would never have imagined anyone would analyze the design of a Hyundai.
Excellent! I loved the long form video. The details of the design process are fascinating. And yes absolutely the N Vision is a very desirable car!
Thanks for your feedback Ali! 💥👍
Great to have you back! Love the video, the super high quality, and it is of course very interesting as always :^)
i like how the design reminds me of the first generation celica with its front end and its rear end. and the celica supra with the roof design
Love the video concept and production! Will you change 'sets' for every review or is this permanent? Really cool idea!
The VEC is a huge place Brenton.
Awesome review! I liked more old style of presenting the video when you sit a the desk ;)
Thank you Miguel!
It's Hyundai, like Sunday
Source: their own Super Bowl commercial from 2009 (Angry Bosses). 😉
Frank is always interesting to watch, tho.
Hmmm... ruclips.net/video/7WkTEmIF7Gk/видео.html
The beauty of this spoiler is that it looks exactly like a mod, an attachment that could be replaced by any other spoiler.
they need to bring this car into production, it looks awesome.
Keep dreaming.
You are back Frank, you was missed.. and love you passion for this car, i also wanted ONE :D
Good to see you back frank. Very entertaining and enjoyable 😊
Good to see you back. Love the new look as well.
such a great way of making an analysis. Objective, substantive, entertaining.
Thanks m! 👍
i have just discovered your channel but i am absolutely amazed bye your video design and music choice, coupled with your analysis. I really got goosebumbs halfway through very good job sir!
Was worried you had your fun on RUclips frank. Glad to see you back.
It looks like a mix between that Cyberpunk car in FH4, the Peugeot Muscle Car, and a DeLorean
13:11 I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but the side profile reminds me a lot of a 70's Alfetta GTV
I'll do anything to get one. Was always a DeLorean/Guigaro fan, and this is everything i want in a car looks wise.
This is how you tie the past to the future. Stunning
What a great effort went to making this video, and deservedly so given the great design of this vehicle
Thank you Med! 💥👍
Without the wing, it'd probably hit 9.7 or 9.8
Retro is fine when the 3 main design points you mention are there.
The way I look at it, if an old design has those points and someone says that a new design is retro, based on an older design, and the 3 main design points are there, who cares if it's retro?
Hey there Frank! :)
I have been waiting for your take on these new Amazing looking retro art pieces! :D
Yes, I do love the look of these things very much but I cant wait to see what you have to add.
Thanks for the videos and take care!
Welcome back Frank! 🤘🏻
If DeLorean ever entered Group B. That's the vibe I get from this & I can't say that's a bad thing!
You are being so generous, i can imagine people with you status will charge so much money just to give a simple talk
I dont have anything with designing but these videos are still very interesting to watch, great job!
I’m glad you recovered your RUclips password frank
So glad you covered this. As soon as I saw it I was curious what your opinion would be
Love the new format, and analysis fantastic as always. I was wondering what CHMSL down the left on the rear view meant?
Looks great, My personal touch up would be to replace all LEDs with incandescent bulbs. Yes.
Beautiful
I love this design more than any design I've seen in new cars for the past 15 years.
The future lies in the past.
hear hear
There no past and no future. There’s and there will always be nows.
Possibly the best, most educative and entertaining video you've made
Glad you enjoyed it!
oh and I approve of you including concept art in the videos, it’s fun to learn about the design’s development and what they could’ve gone with
This is some of the finest green screen work I've seen on RUclips!! Also, I want that touch screen TV!!! Do you know what its called?
