Hi all,
We're back again critiquing my subscribers submitted designs. Thanks to everyone who has submitted and a bigger thank you to the ones featured in this episode!
Thanks,
Frank

Hey Frank, thanks a lot for critiquing my design, I have certainly learned with this. Mean while I have finished this project producing a clay model of the design I will send it all to you, thanks again Frank!
Parabéns João! Continua o excelente trabalho.
Hey just curious how did you send your design to frank ? I want to send some
Of my sketches in.
@@jeromep3182 there's an email for it. Maybe check the description?
@@andrenavarroII Obrigado!
Love your design Joao! Clearly McLaren, and I love the sabretooth effect.
BMW Needs to hire you back before they lose their market.
If he can recreate the X5 slightly based off the E53, would be amazing. Latest X5 nothing but a rich Karen mobile besides the M. Original had this business, mean, ready to go fast but rugged bottom portion of the car, E70 carried the same principle, F15 you can tell it was starting to blend in with every other suv.
@@aidenp5768They sold very well thou, and so did the X3.
What needs to change is a modern restoration of the grill.
I'm not liking most modern BMWs besides the 2 series or the new 8 series concept.
I used to work for BMW car leasing so I've had many many cars from them, company cars.
The older 125i with the inline 6 series was one of my favourites. Also, the X3 was fully loaded as most companies' cars were from them, never liked SUVs but its height perspective view was great and the 3 l diesel had enough torque was great.
I had a few M's great cars the 3 series and 4 but I had to pay more and the ride /road noise wasn't the best and fuel was not so good. I far prefer the one model done in the 3-line six or even 2-lite turbo in the 1 or 2 series.
Funny enough if I were buying one, I would go for the cheaper 2-series as the market it's based in is saturated so prices are good I wouldn't get the M engine but rather the 2-litre turbo at 255 bhp or 240i just under 400bhp x line, not rear-driven, the coups very well proportioned and green and purple look great.
Damn, Frank is being savage today. Good. It's tough to take criticism or suggestions, but honestly, being a Designer myself it's A LOT better than having no feedback in the early stages, then management drastically changing things in the final stage of design. (10x as much work to fix). Get those rough sketches going and work them up to what you want, go into 3D, basic hard surface modelling, then add details. Get feedback at every stage.
(I works as an exhibition & events Designer and this makes my blood boil!)
Yes it is a tough world and the sooner one learns that sugar coating does not exist in the industry, the better. When I was studying, projects would always get passed no matter what, and there was a general theme of not being overly harsh (even when it was clearly needed for some people to realize that they weren't doing an adequate job). One year we had a project with a major OEM and also had a new teacher/supervisor brought in, who didn't behave like the school policy would otherwise influence established teachers. Basically at the end he told everyone straight that they would all pass, but also said that in the real world the vast majority of our projects would not be able to meet the lowest industry standards. A passing grade does not mean doing well enough to be considered as a job candidate in the industry. Too bad this happened on last semester of the final year, so Frank giving harsh but true advice and criticism is really what everyone needs. It is NOT an easy industry to get into and stay in. It is one of the most competitive fields that exists.
@@Real_MisterSir true - but don’t blame the lecturers (I am one) - the university I’m in has a ‘pass first time policy’ where no-one can fail…to try and massage student satisfaction. It’s insane, especially in a discipline so competitive as this. Result is that really poor projects get passed…if not, management blame staff. It’s a slippery slope.
@@alfamonk I'm blaming half and half (of course also heavily depends on which school is in question). In our case, I believe the school was just hungry for money so by passing everyone easily they ensured steady flow of yearly education fees instead of risking people dropping out after failed years.
And a lot of the lecturers were definitely in on this, as some people who literally didn't work for half a year still got free passes. Very bad grades, but still passes. Right until 3rd year where people started failing a lot of courses because now the school didn't stand to gain more course fees, only re-exam fees.
Some is of course speculation, but the consistency of this was just way too blatant (and was even called out by certain lecturers who weren't tightly associated with the school and the existing staff). Anyways, is just to say that I agree that it is so valuable to receive honest critique that isn't sugar coated. It is so incredibly valuable to aspiring designers and seniors alike.
He is honest, as always. Otherwise what's the point of giving criticism?
This isn't even close to Savage.
A recommendation from the Maestro. It is fantastic to be able to learn from Mr Stephenson himself. Thanks for all your videos!
I appreciate very much that you took your time with the last one, instead of just slamming him, sometimes a career change can be very fruitful unless you get discouraged in the first second. Yes he has a long way to go and to learn technique and language wise, but if he puts enough time, effort and passion into it, who knows what will result. And you gave him the right hints and elaborated in a very limited time. Great.
I want to appreciate these videos, it's like watching a teacher of something he's passionate and can keep his audiences eyes on him.
Love it.
Still waiting for the RX-7 FD video :)))
Ive been here from 20k subs this man is living legend and this videos make me feel happy and relaxed.
Great feedback. With such a great teacher everybody will start drawing cars soon :)
Love your heart Frank. Really appreciate you giving back. You are a gem. Can’t say enough . All I hear here is love ❤️ love ❤️ ❤️
Mr. Stephenson, I think its a good time to give your views on the F1 2022 cars. We would love to hear your opinion on the new designs and the best looking car according to you.
Boa João, parabéns, não largues o sonho, tens o que é preciso... 👏👏👏
Community service at its best 👌🏻
First. Insightful video, clicked immediately. BMW is providing rich ground for analysis and ideation.
The square peg memes were a treat.
2nd one is good for an electric car
Last design also has a Alfa Romeo 4C vibe from the front.
Can you tell us how you survived the pressure when things weren't going normally in job and in college ,how you got the motivation back and moved forward ?
Hi thank you sir i your clearly explanation ,, and it"s verry important for new comers also car designing was my hobby when it my childhood gb you
You are a legend. Thanks for your work
Frank, please review ID BUZZ. Wonder if you think it is too much retro or enough forward looking.
Hey Frank i want to see how the cars you designed could have looked if you had the possibilty to transform your Idea without engenering and regulation limits , like a director cut version of movie that would be cool
This is what I'm missing from my school, really great stuff. Did you say you have a masterclass available for purchase? I'd love to learn more about your design process and techniques, I'm currently struggling with marker rendering and would like to improve. Thanks!
I actually liked the fangs on the first design. I didn't find it too over the top.
Thanks bro! I also had mixed feelings about it but Ijust had to keep them
@@joaonunes7387 great work bro 👍
@@joaonunes7387 Can't wait to see V2. Well done!
I think it would be cool if frank took some of the designs from the submissions and made his own rendition of them
12:41 I identify myself as a Fiat Panda, and i felt aggressed 😂 that was rude 😅
Hey, Frank... After seeing the Gemera, what do you think about Koenigsegg??? They're worth talking about.
kudos to you Frank.
Z4 side profile - I like it ( granted, it would never move with no ground/ wheel clearance ). The Yellow rear for me is really excellent.
It's very cartoony, similar to how teens think hatchbacks should look, I've seen such pictures selling online of exaggerated, caricatures of sorts of the golf GTi, Fiesta/focus or such cars.
The front view was a great stretch, the contrast between modern and old was on point.
Brock has re-designed the Ferrari FXX. But i love the back of the car.
The only think i cannot stand and makes me pissed is when i see vertical lights mounted on the front of the car, for example Brock's sketch, Nissan GTR R35 and Maserati MC20. When i look at them i get so angry that i'm literally shaking!
Holy shoot this guy really went in depth and have amazing feedback.
Every video is packed with knowledge. Thank you Frank
Guy: submits a paper with one straight line from point A to point B. Frank: now this is great but to take it to the next level you need to simplify it. Just drop the point B which implicitly drops the line connecting the 2 points. So if you only have point A it would be simpler, hence more next level. LMAO. Great video as usual, sir.
Love all the comments about BMW needing to get its act together. Gives me hope that not all is lost lol
what ? this bmw rims would be banger frank camon :D
damn the bmw looks amazing!
Brilliant
i've been wondering, if i want to send my design, where could i send it?
To critiques@frankstephenson.com
hey thanks to you Frank! :D
masterclass,,, everytime, frank does it his way,
do another interior design video, futuristic design
The motorcycle vids were also great.
Hey Frank! Please make a video in which you freestyle and draw new ferrari, lamborghini and porsche please
no way, that is the WolverineMobile
so awsome
How we can send our sketchs ??
Frank, are you doing more of this in the future? How can I send in my design sketch? :)
You make it look easy when you start drawing gawd. Listen how much would it cost me for a car design Cross over type car made especially for heavy Canadian snow. I want to put the ice scraper in the door like the Bentley. It needs a flat surface on the bottom.
I think BMW should go back to their roots with simplicity in design such as the E39, E46, E30 or the E60. and mechanical engineering instead of using lots of almost unwanted technology in their cars today. The 1 series was a great example done right followed by the 1M after.
@frankstephenson, How do we get our designs in for critique? I tried emailing a submission a few months back but it keeps getting bounced back.
How do we submit da works tho ...can someone help me out ?
critiques@frankstephenson.com
That is a an elongated 2007 Z4M coupe design.
how can we send you our designs?
critiques@frankstephenson.com
So basically fanart for cars, got it
Hi Frank! How or where to can I send my sketches and renderings for you to critique? Nice channel by the way! Cheers!
I'm sorry but that first McLaren just doesn't work for me. The bottom half (with sharp edges etc) definitely shows a Lambo while the (more boring) half shows a clear McLaren heritage. For me it just doesn't work together. Remove the sharp angles from the bottom half, turn them into nice curves and now we're talking.
amazing content thank you
hoping that we will gonna have a discord server for ppl that insterested in car designs
I get some Audi RSQ vibes from that BMW
That BMW wouldn’t pass safety regulations looking like that sadly😔
Wow that bmw looks so good
no risk no glory!
A masterclass by Frank!
How to submit my designs to you?
I draw several fictional race cars
Sir Frank, I was unable to send my designs to you, it appears as a return message to me as your email is not found or does not exist. I don't know if this problem just happened to me... or maybe if you changed your email address.
Hello Vinicius. It happened because you have misspelled the email address. The email address is critiques@frankstephenson.com, NOT critique@frankstephenson.com

@@FrankStephensondesign I sent it sir
the better the sketch,
the harder the master ll gonna smash it
I liked the Z side view more than the ³/4 one
but Frank is right in that even been a proto or idea,
still needs to consider real world capabilities,
after all, this is a tool what you are building.
if not, you could even have it draw without wheel arches as well
💯💯💯
Its a initial conceptual sketch for gods sake. Even company based official sketches have the unrealism about wheels. Its the later stages that makes for refinement & tuning of the design. What's so hard to grasp that.
@@changsangma1915 yes, you are as right as I though I was. Then Frank talked.
Brock really loves Hawkgirl
What watch is Frank wearing today?
Yes Frank Give engineers hard challenges they will do it…. He he :) engineer life is hard !
Frank, what do you think about pierch?
Lamborghini Dragonfly.
Sketching is supposed to be intuitive process. Do not press your pen too hard. When you sketch try to use your whole hand not only your wrist. Do not stress about getting everything perfect. Try to find the right caracter and personality to your vehicle. Draw bigger pictures since it will look better. You can always get a new piece of paper. Peace Y
Commendable of you to do this for young designers. YT eh?
Supper!

Frank pls critique my design.
Brock designs pipelines for what? Natural gas ? Or? Brock you in the comments?
Yeah gas transmission pipelines.
@@brockmiddleton9596 ah ha I was hoping to run into you. Are you an engineer? My uncle is a Nuclear engineer, just retired actually but he built and repaired/expanded/maintained etc. all the nuclear power plants in the US…I think he had a job of some sort on every one, but most of his time was on longer projects on sites east of the Mississippi River.
ANYWAY. I hear Russia needs a pipeline you should toss in a bid for the project 😝
The new BMW will never hire a competent designer
I'm sorry but i had to skip Brock's one.

Have you ever thought about overlaying tracing paper and giving some proper feedback, we’re here to see your design knowledge not all your talk.
Draw something frank.
Are these “viewers” being serious??? My cat could draw better than this
its not just drawing
and could you do better as well? Or is it just your cat the talented one of the family?
Wow! Thank you for taking the time to review my design. Your tips and critiques are greatly appreciated!
Great job, Brock! Keep dreaming big and being daring
Lucky you man love the design it looks breathtaking
I like the design Brock, a little pointy but I really like the grille and spoiler. I think of it as a no anti-roll street sports car that handles lika a Ferrari 559 GTO.
Keep it on
hi brock, how did you send your design to frank ? I want to send some of my designs
Wish I had this type of opportunity when I was a kid! Imagine having someone like Frank review your work and give you his insights. Holy this is great.
internet is amazing
Despite some minor flaws, the BMW's render is beautiful.
This is so valuable to me, every video I learn more and without this channel I would probably not even have discovered my interest in car design.
We definitive need a Modern Version of a Z Variant BMW, remember the time where even James Bond changed his Aston Martin to a BMW, a BMW Z8 which were a bit faster than the Ferrari 360 Modena (and was designed by Henry Fisker).
Im still waiting for my critique😭😭😂but frank that kid has talent
BMW need to sack their entire design team first 🤣🤣🤣
These videos are priceless, thank you so much for inspiring and teaching us Frank! I'm an mechanical engineering student who's wanting a career in automotive design. Would love to have your insights about cross career employment if you see this comment. Cheers
Muitos parabéns João, gostei da máquina. Um abraço.
Muito obrigado!

BMW needs to hire anyone from outside. Anyone. Simultaneously, they need to fire everyone from BMW design going back to Bangle. Everyone. Furthermore, they need to replenish their Board in total with new members unafflicted by the design virus that allowed the current crop of crap.
Besides the fact that you are a top designer, you are a great great person!
Thank you for deciding to go online and share your stories with us!
Hello Mr Stephenson, bmw has brought out the 7 series and i7. Just wondering if you have any interest in reviewing and analyzing it sometime soon? As I think it’s another controversial release that needs a lot of detailed feedback. Hope you take my request into consideration. Thank you!
Hello again, Mr. Stephanson... This is cheating, and I apoogize. My comment is about your BMW 4 design video, but I just viewed it tonight, so I placed my comment here... I hope that's acce;table. I saw a most interesting video years ago, simply silently showing a magnificent life-size marble sculpture of a nude woman on a turning plinth. She was seen initially from behind with a "perfect" body ( right!!! ) as the plinth slowly turned. Every part of her was elegance, grace, and exquisite beauty. Finally her face was in view... classic in every detail, yet, alas, with one unmissable flaw. This Diana, this Venus, had a broken nose. I could literally hear it screaming! Behold the zwei nieren, on a beautiful automobile. No sober car designer allowed to take pencil to paper for BMW designed that grill with that shocking plaster in mind... would you have done it, Sir? I knew your later most obvious talent when I read your credentials... that's when I subscribed... period, END. ...Barry
I am very tempted as a graphic designer myself in the Print Industry to get my designs critiqued by you. I do know I have weakness with my designs and I need an expert like yourself Frank to improve my favorite hobby.
I have read many books on how to render and sketch cars properly. Though I can still tell there is something with the 3D rendering, mainly the opposite or reflected side looks very unproportionate to main left side view showing.
