This is a nice smooth decent. Its a good trail for climbing up too. Lots of good views, lots of options for the return trip or deeper into the park. Its got an even gradient until you get to the fire road at the top.

The fire road in the valley? That road is relatively flat. This trail comes down from Wilson peak. Total descent is 1800 feet maybe. Theres lots of back country singletrack all over the park. You need to enjoy climbing though. Youll spend 70% of your time climbing. Well worth it though. Especially in late winter and spring when the flowers bloom and everythings green and new. Hot days can be brutal out here.

@@rollinrat4850 Hi RollingRat (cool name), planning a mtn bikepacking trip to Coe, down Wilson Peak looks great, is this through Grizzly Gulch? Do you by chance know this trails name? I assume there are a few ways down Wilson Peak. Also, if you know what the best singletrack descents are in the park? We are headed into Coit Lake, 3 days of riding. Lmk thanks Man!

Andrew Sell This is Jim Donnelly. Its a great climb up Wilson Peak. Grizzly Gulch is a trail, but not off Wilson peak. One of so many! A lifetimes worth!!There's several really nice single tracks from the top of Wilson Peak. Check out Jim Donnelly trail. Its a nice climb to the top right from Hunting Hollow.
If you haven't ridden there before definately buy a map. The big detailed one. Check the website. Get a water filter or at least a life straw.
My best advice is to go to Coe the first time with somebody who's been there before. Its a HUGE park and not difficult to get lost. Everybody I know, myself included had a crazy 1st experience out there. Its a wild place and you will be practically on your own! BE PREPARED for the worst! This is a place for serious adventurers, not adrenaline junkies.

Andrew Wilson Peak is just the tip of the iceberg. Coit lake is central to lots of nice trails. There are lots of real SINGLE tracks and backcountry trails.
My favorites nearby are Coit ridge, Spike Jones(fast and steep) , Wilson Peak trail(steeper) Serpentine, Cross Canyon, bring chain oil! (technical and rocky, in and out of a creek, over and over) Domino Pond to Cattle Duster to Grapevine to Anza, rippin' descent with a 'bonus' climb at the end and some rock gardens. Elderberry to Jackson trails. There's lots of more overgrown trails in and out of Pacheco Creek to your east. Its a real deep canyon. Theres a spring fed shower (NICE) at Pacheco Camp. If you're there in spring, do the fireroads and double tracks to Pacheco falls. Well worth the effort and very pretty. The falls aren't that far from Coit lake. Probably less than 10 miles. It can be pretty boggy though with lots of mud.
Ive done many bikepacking trips out there! Ive been riding here for 30 years. Be safe, ride slower! Use 'not so' common sense!! You are on your own!! Ive had to get a guy evacuated and it took all night and it cost him $10k just for the evacuation.
MOST importantly, learn to enjoy climbing at Coe. You'll do it the majority of your riding time! With packs you will be hiking LOTS. Coe is renowned for its steep roads and trails. Ive done 50+ mile day rides with well over 10K ft. of climbing. This is no place for whiners. Choose your riding partners carefully! Especially for several days! I don't bring most of my riding buddies here. They have to pass other tests 1st!
