I replaced the single pole with a 2 pole and shunted one pole with a jumper. Also changed the start cap. When powered up the start capacitor started arcing like crazy on both terminals. Fan started, compressor sounded like it was trying to start or had started, so I shut it down.

I guess I'm asking why would a start cap spark like that?? 10 year old York 2 1/2 ton heat pump.

so the thermostat is powerd by 12v DC current batterys and it sends the signal to the 12v DC current coil on the contactor so than the contacts close and send 120v to start the compressor and fan¿¿ am I correct??

Can you use a contactor with 2 poles no shunt pole?

Hello I found that my coil pigtail from the thermostat to the contractor is loose and wobble and make a humming sound. My AC air is not that cold anymore. Do you think replace can solve the issue?

Hi Steve! My new single pole 30 amp 24 volts contactor doesnt look like it is labeled L1 L2, T1 T2. Are their locations standardized the same if I orient the contactor according to my existing old one of a Siemens brand with the side that has the contactor?
And does each of the four 4 prongs belong to its own group so that wires belong to that group can be plugged onto any of the 4 prong configuration as long as the wires are in the right group?
Also, can sources for the main power go on either side of the 2 screws or lugs on the line side? Thanks in advance!

Hello and thanks for the question. From the disconnect to the contactor Black would go on the left bottom lug or screw connection that would be L1 meaning Line 1 . Red or could be white would go on the bottom right lug or screw connection this would be L2 meaning Line 2. this will be line power. Then the top side of the contactor would be your load voltage or power. Just follow the same as below Black top left Lug or screw connector and Red or White to the top right lug or screw connector. Another way that may make it easy for you is to remove power from your unit then remove the old contactor , Mount the new one then just go wire for wire putting the wires in the same orientation as they was on the old contactor . if you need further help just give me a call at www.hvacpartsshop.com

Hi quick question, I replaced a single pole with a double pole. Why does the right side need constant power? Is it okay to have it close and open like the left side? Or do I need to wire it where it is constantly powered? Thanks!!

Depending on the model and make of the condenser. On the one pole contact or single pole constant with line 1 is open and line 2 is closed. Line 2 to ground, because heater to heat the oil in the compressor. Thank you for the lovely question, feel free to ask as many questions as you would like. No question is a bad question. Is this style of contactor orientation sensitive?...meaning.....as long as you're mindful of "L" connections used for power-in....and "T" connections for power-out....can the unit be mounted either right-side up or upside down? ( printed material on the cover is then upside down?).....I think it doesn't matter, but thought to ask.

    • @joephu

orientation does not matter, just the proper wire configuration

Steve I am stuck. I replaced my ac fan motor and now compresor wont turn on so I made an error on the hook up. I have a dual capacitor on the unit. Old motor had three wires on it. BLK-RED-ORANGE. The new one has FIVE wires. They are BLK-RED-ORANGE-YELLO-PURPLE. Can you tell me how it wires up. I connected three of the wires from the new motor but had two remaining wires,
