- In todays video we look at how to replace the cabin air filter in the Toyota Yaris (2006-2020).
The cabin air filter is what filters your air conditioning and air coming in from outside through the vents in the dash.
No tools are required to complete this job.
Parts:
Toyota Cabin Air Filter 87139-52020 x1
Alternative is Ryco RCA164M Cabin Air Filter x1
All genuine part numbers were found by entering vehicle VIN into PartSouq:
partsouq.com/
Alternatively, the Ryco filter finder can be used for Ryco aftermarket filters:

People online were saying the filter goes the other way.
Thank you for clarifying
It depends on the manufacturer of the filter. Some filters, like the OE Toyota or Mazda filter will have an arrow showing the direction of airflow. In that case, the filter is installed with the arrow pointing downwards because the airflow comes from the top and goes down. Other filter brands might have an arrow with the word "up" in which case the filter is installed with the arrow pointing up.
My 2018 Yaris iA did not have an arm on the side. To release the glove box I had to push in on both sides and pull towards me. That released the catches on both sides. There was no separate plastic holder to remove in front of the filter The filter had a catch on the top and bottom in the middle. Press the catches toward each other and remove. Replace the same way.
Thanks Mike - appreciate the level of detail you've provided so other viewers can see as well
Thank you!! Mine did not have an arm either
Nice video, having problems with airflow, turns out the filter was upside down, so now air flow is good again.
Thanks for the feedback Mazon, glad it helped
This was very helpful thank you!!
We're glad it helped!
Thank you. I was trying to get the wings out at the middle of the glovebox by pushing the sides in, THEN the hinges. The pasenger side one came out no problem, but the driver's side one was a nitghmare. 🙂 I will try your method next time.
So helpful
Thanks
Thanks Simo!
Excellent. I took it out then forgot the orientation. Haha Needed this video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I found it would only go one way.
Thanks for this. Although I didn't have a replacement, I took my filter out to see what it was like.
It was filthy. Lots of crushed leaves and other debris. It's only been in there about 18 months.
I hoovered it out and put it back. With a new Bosch filter ordered.
Thanks Tectorama, great to hear you were able to get it out, and no doubt an improvement once the new filter goes in!
A service tech recommended that I change my cabin filter once. The cost was $60. I passed on the generosity of his offer.
Thanks for watching Greg. This is one of those jobs where it's easy to get ripped off, for such a small amount of labour
Thank you! Piece of cake
Thanks for watching Monika!
Thank u!!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent
Thanks Aureo!
Thanks a lot for your video. I'm really having a hard time getting this glove box out of a YARIS HYBRID 2015. The instructions say that I need to press the sides of the box inwards but I am no bodybuilder. Do I need to use a crowbar? I don't want to damage the car. I also tried to apply preassure like you did at 0:33, but it did not work. Can you further specify this preassure, is it a upward pulling force? how strongly do i have to pull?
Hi, thanks for watching! I certainly wouldn't recommend using a crowbar, as you'll likely break something. Typically if a small mechanism made of plastic like this isn't moving don't force it. I found a reasonable amount of force was required (just with hands) to pop the glovebox clips up and out of where they snap into below. In the shot you're talking about I'm using my right hand to pull upwards and out and my left hand to push upwards, it has to come out at an angle but clips down and in vertically if that makes sense.
Thank you. I didn't had to but I did anyway. I had plastic stuck inside LOL.
Thanks for watching and it sounds like it was a good thing that you checked!
is this what usa calls fan filter?
Most people don't change the cabin air filter because they have never heard of it.
Thank you for the video ! I have a 2017 hybrid and almost always after closing the air intake to the cabin, starts to smell like an old closet if you know what i mean... Any advice or do you think that a carbon filter will improve the driving experince ?? Thanks.
Hi Marco, I'd recommend inspecting and/or replacing your cabin air filter as a starting point. Hope this helps!
@@2ndGearLow thanks. I'll inspect it myself when I have time... The thing is that right after the last maintenance, when supposedly the cabin filter was replaced, it was doing the same thing. From what I've seen and researched it looks like most Toyotas do this, so it seems like a design flaw to me. Thank you for responding!
Brilliant watch! Really helpful. More importantly, what kind of dog do you have? 😅
Thanks Clinton, glad you enjoyed. That's not our dog so I'm not sure unfortunately 😅
Is this similar on the newer Yaris Hybrid version?
Hi Thomas, unfortunately we're not too familiar with those
Hi my friend where's the fuel filter for a Yaris
Hi Matthew, thanks for watching! On the Yaris 1.3L engine shown here (2NZ-FE), the fuel filter is located connected to the fuel pump, which sits inside the top of the fuel tank. We highly recommend checking out partsouq.com, which is a great resource for working on cars. Simply enter the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your particular Yaris, and then search for fuel filter, and you will be able to see an exploded diagram of the location of the fuel filter including part numbers. You can also create a free account and add the car to your garage there, to make it easy to find other part numbers and diagrams in future
😊
