  • So many monsters you'll have to roll for initiative to play it!
Better yet, don't play it. Ever.

god I remembered this game out of nowhere today watching Mortal Kombat videos and I just HAD to find this again from witch I was 8 years old back in 2008. love this game and it was my first (still only) arena game. but yeah just flat out remembered the Lamia Rerner and the Skeleton Hal and spent 30 minutes googling PS1 game trying to find it. I'm happy to see a game from my past.

My first ps1 game. My parents got this for me along with the ps1. They thought I’d like it because of the monsters on the cover and the title. My brother and I played the hell out of it because we didn’t have another fighting game on the console for a while.

Good job finding and telling me about more obscure shit. There are so many games I had no idea existed. Maybe they didn't want to be found?

3:10 Now that's hilarious. Until recently, guess where I kept nearly all my physical games on most of my game systems?
    Lol

So basically Auto Mode is Digimon World with any of the features that made DW fun and you could only fight in crappy tournaments.
And you know true quality when your AI and combat mechanics in your FIGHTING game make the ones from Digimon World look good in comparison.

Lol I actually keep most of my games in my car trunk too. Apartment is too small.

this game reminds me of Cardinal Syn but in..."not so good"

Cardinal Syn may have its flaws, but it's still a MASTERPIECE compared to this bare-bones waste of time and money. Take it from someone who actually played both games back in the day.

I was more of a battle arena toshinden 2 guy but I still love the setting cardinal syn has

@@kitsunahri I hear you. Battle Arena Toshinden 1 may not have aged as gracefully as other fighting games have, but it did kick off one of the "founding franchises" of the 3D fighter genre alongside Virtua Fighter and Tekken. BAT 2 was certainly a worthy sequel, I will say, and I also thoroughly enjoyed BAT 3.
Cardinal Syn actually wasn't too shabby, either, at least in terms of its story and setting. The music was pretty catchy, too, and the FMV cutscenes were gorgeous by PS1 standards, 1998 or otherwise. Gameplaywise, though...eh...I've played both better and worse, so...take that how you will.
Killing Zone here, however, could have (and SHOULD have) been much better than it ultimately turned out to be. Like I said, bare-bones and far-from-thrilling specials and combos, ugly graphics with choppy-as-all-else animation, a counterproductive camera from more than one aspect, weak sound effects, an almost non-existent story to engage players, and an "Auto Mode" that felt more like a poor gamer's version of battle mode from a Monster Rancher game than anything that would have been genuinely fun. Think the mutated cousin of Battle Arena Toshinden without projectiles and such and with monsters instead of weapon-wielding humans, and that's pretty much this game in a nutshell.
Want a GOOD fighting game by Scarab? Give Battle Monsters a shot. It might not be anything extraordinary, but it's definitely better than the mere "Way of the Warrior rip-off" that IGN's Jeff Gerstman so unfairly called it. Fighting Vipers 2 should also whet your appetite for some solid mano a mano action.

Do you intend to continue 5DG in the future or has this kinda just morphed into SC on... at this point? Is it getting tough to find titles that fit the criteria of 5 dollars AND are bad/interesting enough to feature?
I had a laugh recently seeing that Fallout 76 physical copies are selling for around 5 bucks (or less) so it would be eligible for a roast on 5DG.

I've just recently discovered (but not played) another obscure fighting game for both PS1 and Saturn. A Japanese exclusive called 'FIST' by Imagineer.
Which game is worse- KZ or Fist and why?

Never played that one, but at a glance it seems to have better presentation than Killing Zone... for whatever that's worth.

Fist is goddamn awful, I just picked this up today and Id much rather play this tbh. Tho there is still worse than Fist. Criticom and saturn comes to mind. its anti fun to me. zero entertainment value.
Evil Zone does have fun stuff you can do with characters. You can pop it in during Halloween for a few minutes
