I was just deciding which Melee DPS jobs to play first, perfect timing. Literally all my questions answered, simple explanations and very enjoyable, love your videos!

We all know best is dragoon. Best rotations best survivability coolest moveset and armour.
Dragoon’s are pretty to look at 🤩 the armor is so sleek looking as well compared to others. 💜
Ninja is the most fun and varied out of the melee DPS I’ve tried so far and it really isn’t close. All of them are 40+, but as soon as I unlocked Katon and Raiton the fun factor really ramped up, and it really says something that a mid-30s ninja is more fun than a level 60 samurai.
it really is so much fun, plus i love naruto
For Monk, I like to jump at the end of Dragonkick and Tornado Kick to look super cool and acrobatic.
Maybe I want to be a Dragoon deep down inside.

Same for PLD Prominence and MCH Clean Shot.

Monk is my favorite. So much fun and it feels really rewarding to do your rotation and positional perfectly

I main DRG and AST (in raids) but I generally like playing all of them ^^
DRG is indeed probably the easiest melee to pick up though. Very forgiving (nowadays).

SAM is so smoothe but I really love NIN as a caster main. NIN feels like such a good hybrid between melee and casting which i really love.

Started with DRG as my first job and im in love with it.

I feel like Monk is very similar in vein to real life martial arts. It's going to take a lot of time, practice and discipline to master. And once you get it and everything clicks in place, it's a very satisfying job to play. Plus I just like punching stuff in game.
Yes! The glamour of emperors new fist and just punching people is the highlight!

I play DRK at the moment and i wanted to try some dps jobs and from the ones i tried - Bard, Machinist, Samurai, Red mage (i try them in palace of the dead at level 50-60) and i feel that you are locked up in a set rotation forever. Like there is no decision making involved, press whatever needs to be pressed next in your combo and never think about anything. The skill usage feels not like i thought it would be best to use certain skill next, but because you literally cannot press anything else in the sequence or it will fail.
For example i played a red mage in a castrum meridian yesterday and i felt like i was pressing same buttons in the same order literally forever. Cast jolt -> thunder/air -> proc? use proc -> got full mana? -> go in melee, 123 -> repeat forever.
With samurai you press 3 buttons in order, get one buff and on sen -> iaijutsu for dot -> repeat to get another same sen -> press other 2 buttons in order get other buff and other sen -> press other buttons in order, get 3rd sen -> midare -> repeat forever.
Bard is kinda cool because bows but i hate when rng dictates if i do damage or not. And 20% proc chance lmao. even 50% proc chance on Red mage feels more like 15%.
Machinist is a bit better because of the frenetic heat blast/gauss round windows and trying to pump as many skills into Wildfire windows.
Perhaps 50 is too low level to judge? Is there any dps class which isn't holed into a set rotation forever? Maybe i am full of shit?
Uji!! You are not full of shit lol. FFXIV jobs are based off a set rotation and optimizing it. Which is different then say eso or wow. We have a very set rotation and procs would be the only differential factor. That’s why bard is so much fun because it’s all random you get 40% procs later for bard that really ramp of the button pressing rng. But it’s about weaving in the ogcds in between the gcds and executing optimally. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea tho

I have to say, with melee DPS and Tanks being the most jobs I've played with the game, I think NIN gets really underrated. Having tried them all it by far seems to be my favorite with having an answer to every situation and being very flexible with how it approaches every pull.
Most of that comes down to how you spend your mudras and resetting them between pulls. Do you need a long window for AoE and not a lot of movement? Drop doton. Need some up front burst AoE? 2x Katon will take care of that. Need a bit of single target on a priority target? Drop that Ration baby.
It rewards smart on the fly decision making, and then for boss pulls you just dump every CD you have in your trick attack window and then smooth brain 3 button rotation for 45 seconds until it comes back up. And the best part is that as long as you've pressed the button, the order doesn't matter that much. Just make sure to press the CD in that window inbetwren the GCD and it's smooth sailing. It's a really forgiving and flexible DPS job that can also approach solo content really well.
The other melee DPS jobs I find get locked into specific rotations or set patterns they need to do at specific windows and if they miss the set up time and a buff or DoT falls off it can feel super punishing based off specific boss mechanics, but as long as you get those 15 seconds to execute a burst window, I don't get that feeling with Ninja at all.
yea I really love Mudras and the inner workings of ninja. It feels so sleek and smooth and you have a skill for every occasion
And on top of that trick attack is probably the best utility skill in the game.
Based on your comment, I may go through leveling up a Nin now! I have 3 classes of tank main, and for fun play melee DPS, which was a Sam or Drg. I just leveled up Mnk to 75, in prep for Endwalker but I’m now reconsidering Nin.
@@mrexpatjohnny having finally gotten to level cap since making this post, I will say at max level that "dump all your cooldowns in your trick attack" gets... A little more complicated. You start to get a lot of cooldowns and it did take me a lot of practice to get it. But I still like the job and the flexibility it has overall and it's probably still my favorite DPS. It just feels fast, flexible, and fun.
@@brettrichards4048 I stopped leveling MNK at 75, already have a max SAM, and speed leveled a NIN to 80, just finished yesterday. It got a bit easier once I learned that I only needed to memorize the Ending of each of the 2 and 3 skill combos. I also had to re-setup my bars so that all my ninkis sit in one spot, so I just hit as available, and all my non-ninki oGCs with normal attacks sit in my 3rd bar pop-up. Compared to the other melee classes, I have a movement skill that lets me choose where I land, I have innate movement speed, and I can do ranged damage as well as melee. This is now my fav DPS class!
I like samurai because i have trouble concentrating and the other classes feel too overwhelming.
ooo thats a really good point. Because there is not party buffs you can totally just focus on your rotation and the battle. That would be a good tip for someone who doesn't want to feel too overwhelmed. That being said though, I feel samurai has alot going on battle wise, which can be hard for some newer players
wouldnt dragoon be an better choice then? its rotation is completely static and very easy, with little to no on the fly decision making
I can only imagine the difference would be the thought of using party buffs more stressful for some instead of just focusing on pure damage. Not so much rotation wise but mindset when playing the class during dungeons.
MNK>NIN>DRG>SAM for me I like MNK for a break from playing my main smooth brain WAR.
I really wanted to love DRG as they are my favorite throughout the FF franchise, but MNK just won me over with NIN being a really close second.
Yea I get what you mean. You kinda have your heart set and then it can fizzle out real quick. That was white mage for me. I was so set on loving it and then boom astro main.

When it comes to popularity, Ninjas would often (not always) comes last, which is lore friendly in my opinion. WE don't want attention. Heck we don't even want players to know we exist.
Jokes aside, I have all jobs at 80 and tried high end content with all of them (Minus the Ultimates but I don't think I need to clear that to justify). Ninja is the most fun class, and I'm not even a Naruto fan or an Anime fan in general. Furthermore, its the class that hasn't been really reworked too hard because it has always been balanced ever since its inception.
I may try a different job for a week, but I always go back to being a Ninja. It's just that good.
I agree, I think Ninja is one of the top jobs in the game in my opinion. It just feels so smooth like silk

There is no dps with a big beefy weapon, such a boner killer. I can't believe they gave the 2H Axe and Sword to tanks. And dps job's has tiny ass weapons. Looking forward to see Reaper's kit.

Good video! This def helped a lot. While I love martial arts, I think I'll do samurai and ninja over monk, just cuz I know my limitations lol. Positioning isn't a strong suit, and I'd lose dps trying to get into the right spots all the time...
I felt the same way. Monk has quite a few skills to turn off positional for a time but still, you got to practice a bit in order to make it easy without having to think.
Love playing monk but I feel ya on that. There is something very heartbreaking seeing a normally 18k bootshine hit for only 8k because the boss turned right as you hit the button

@@BunBossFFXIV I have honestly set up true north right next to PB so I can just press both of them and and stand anywhere and I'll throw a ROE in there too just for good measure halfway through because sometimes I press buttons a little slow haha. I will say, my monk just got to 78 last night and I'm gonna get him to 80 and see how end walker goes for monk.
Hey everyone. Dumb question from a dumb sprout. I know Samurai, Machinist, and Black Mage are the "selfish" DPS, they bring little utility to the group, but they can go fully nuclear on the boss. What would be the opposite for each DPS type, the most supporty/utility focused Melee, Ranged, and Caster DPS Job. I'm totally OK with lower damage if it means my group has improved damage, extra cooldowns or buffs, etc. I'm a Tank and Healer main, I'm rather be a team player and I haven't gotten a direct response yet. Any help is appreciated. Be well and be safe.

Still being a total dps badass then I recommend dragoon! They have awesome utility and still are a very strong dps. 💜

@@dougvillegas8303 Absolutely! Other jobs are not lesser dps, just those two or more dps. But eventually FFXIV is going to buff all of them to be equally as powerful or just a little under. Dancer and bard are the heaviest support jobs, but they definitely are on the lower parts of the DPS tier list. So if you want super heavy support those two jobs will be the best.
I find it funny how you require to have stormblood expansion but is available upon reaching the start of heavensward expansion lol
I know right haha once you hit that level and own stormblood you can get it right away

I really like Dragoon, but only at much later levels... Cuz leveling it is an absolute pain (not more than it is for Rogue though).
The class really picks up once you get the positional combo extenders, and Gierskogul... Like, goddamn I love cool looking, short cooldown abilities! And it gets even shorter later on with Nastrond, I can't wait!
...looking at the stupid ass ability that is Mug (even after Ninja upgrades).
Monk is one I have not tried much due to the overreliance on constant positionals. It just does not feel good having to move back and fourth like that. If it were lighter on positionals like the other classes are then I'd play it much more for sure.
Samurai feels great to play, and it helps that they start out with a fun kit at 50, whereas many other jobs don't even start feeling as good til 60-70.
Yea dragoon is very aesthetically pleasing :) monk positionals are roughhhh as hell
I thought leveling DRG was much more painful than a NIN. MNK was a love hate to the point where I was like I won't let this job beat then I fell in love with it lol. But Tanking is still my fav job in MMOs but MNK/NIN are definitely my alt jobs with DNC when I want to range
Dragoon easily - strong, good for the party, stylish asf and always cool.

I enjoy playing sam for big numbers but im not 200 iq to deal with cds drifting due to invulnerability phases during fights. Once i mess up my rotations I have no idea what to do lol

For me I use the Taoist set with claws, it looks great
I personally like samurai the most, followed by dragoon. With the buffs from Jinpu and Shifu buffs make the class feel great, more so shifu with the increased recast speeds. I play dancer as my main dps job so buffing others is something i enjoy doing so dragoon just makes sense.
I feel like i should say i used to play WoW, so having my recast timer closer to that, and not having any major, it does have some, positionals feels good.
Well Christopher, same but if it helps, all the melee dps have a recast timer buff. Monks is their job skills greesed Lightinging, Ninja has a mudra buff huton, samurai has Shifu, I actually thing Dragoon is the only one who doesnt off the top of my head. They have a damage buff but not a recaster timer buff, maybe because they are so tank in nature and have that as a trade off

Positionals can be tough, I am not a fan of them myself but looks like they are reworking them and taking some out for monk at least
