Thanks for the informative video! I used to be a big smasher ;) but after a long break I can't seem to generate power and angle. Gonna apply this and see how it goes.

Thanks for pointing out the string tension, I do agree it is important to focus on technique but part of the improvement is to know how your gear behave depending on its setup.
Extra power generated by low tension comes with a drawback once you aim to control the directions of the shots.
The services, service return and the smash steepness suffer the most in that situation.

Hi Aylex... I've been watching you since last year about badminton. Could I request you to do a video for when doing a split step on receiving a smash and drops? This would help me a lot with my skills in badminton. Thank you!!!

Do you have any tips for short players? I’m probably the shortest in our area’s sport league.
I really find it hard trying to jump smash from the back since I can’t get behind the bird in time.

You should talk with your coach. There could be a reason behind the advice that no one on the internet can know that is related to your strokes. Just ask why you are advised to do something that they aren’t doing.

While I agree with most of the points he makes, the one about string tension is in my opinion not completely right. While string tension has an impact. Playing with too high tensions creates a host of problems and most non professional players tend to think they are higher level than they really are. Technique is far more important than tension in creating angles in all shots including the smash. Akane Yamaguchi the current world number one in women’s singles plays with 24lbs tension and she definitely can create angles, even being a very short athlete. The tensions he recommends are in my opinion as a stringer, player and coach too high. Most players shouldn’t go above 26lbs as a general rule. There are benefits to high tensions but also down sides. A well strung racket at 23 lbs or 24 lbs will be better than a ok strung one at 26 lbs or 28 lbs.
