I have used these ingredients but used portobello mushrooms instead of the pie crust and added cooked crumbled bacon! You can also use whatever onion you want. I have a local restaurant here that uses white onions and makes pot pie sized ones. Such a versatile recipe! My next endeavor is to try and make a tomato pie in a rectangular casserole dish. That's how much I love tomato pie- I could eat it every day!

i made this meal for my residents in a nursing home, i found when you are making this for 100+ people you can also strain your tomatoes in a strainer for 30 minutes and it still works too

I watch A LOT of RUclips cooking videos, and although I don't know hold old your channel is, I do think this was a quality, well-done, and entertaining video, so...the number of hits, likes and subscribers you have doesn't currently match the quality shown here, in my opinion.
So keep at it, and I can totally see you as a host with over million subscribers.

Earlier this week I made a Pasta Pomodora using tomatoes ripe from the garden. I have to say that experience told me I must first remove the skin from the tomato if baked or cooked, otherwise, the skins are not even chewable. And like my mama always said, if you can't chew it, you can't digest it. So I know a quick way to do that for this recipe would be to just dip the whole tomato into boiling water for a matter of seconds to easily peel the skin off. Then I'll slice 'em, spread out, salt and proceed as you instruct. Thank you. I look forward to trying this one today. Oh, and I'm also going with the no-roll pastry that can be made directly in the pie plate. This just keeps getting easier! 😃😋

To ensure a crispy crust, I brush my crust with an egg white and put the crust back in the oven...this seals the poke holes.

Hi, I've been making this Tomato Pie for years, but with a few changes. I use all Mozzarella cheese and I combine the mayonnaise, green onions, basil and cheese together. I add about 1/3 c more mayonnaise and cheese. I cool the prebaked pie crust. I take about 1/3 c. of the cheese mixture and spread it in the bottom of the cooled crust, then I add the tomatoes, then spread the remainder of the mayonnaise cheese mixture and bake as directed. Adding a light layer of the mayonnaise cheese mixture to the pie crust helps to prevent a soggy crust. This pie is delicious. I always serve it with a tossed salad. It is a must make every Summer. I always make at least 2 every when tomatoes are in season. This year I'm going to try adding some cooked chicken breast to the cheese mixture, just to see how it turns out.

I like to put a layer of cheese on the bottom crust to prevent sogginess. Cooked bacon is a great addition--I'm actually really disappointed to get it without the bacon (in a restaurant or tea room).

If you dredge the sliced tomatoes in flour, it prevents it from being soggy

@@incog99skd11 sorry… IMO, Duke’s and Hellman’s are definitely not the same taste. I grew up with in northern VA with Hellman’s and didn’t discover Duke’s until I moved to southern NC. Now I live in SW FL and still insist on Duke’s!

    STOP!!!! Never put garlic. Please.
Add one egg to cheese filling.
Cut tomatoes in half for better fitting.
I do like the Green onion/Basil layers.
Pie is best cut chilled but tastes best warmed.
