We added 8 foot / 4 bar Bimini's to all of our tour rafts this season. A true game changer. Not only do they help on hot sunny days, they are helpful on the overcast rainy days, too. Better Mounts are fantastic. I like your loop strap idea. Seams much easier to release then the standard clips that are supplied with the tops. Thanks for the video.
Private Whitewater? More life Private Heartbreaker with that stache! I hope whatever river dares to step in your way respects that AU-THOR-I-TIE this weekend.
Just used a top for the first time on the lower Salmon. It was really nice to have the sun off me, my passengers, and the cooler. It was especially nice when it absolutely down poured, although I was a little worried about lightening. It seemed to hold up to the upriver winds typical of that run, without making it much worse to paddle against it.
I added a red binimi top to my blue raft and now my wife and son enjoy the river with me on the Sunday floats on the Rogue, most definitely go bigger and better mounts are the way to go on round tube frames. In the upstream wind this can work good, just keep your nose pointed into the wind, thanks for doing the video
Thanks for the info Cody. I used an umbrella on the canyon, and it was a bit of work to manage, for the reasons you mentioned. I might get a Bimini for the Main in August. P.S. you look different with the stache.
I'm with you. I don't personally want one if it's just me, but I'm sure my wife would like to have it on hot trips. She doesn't do as well with the heat as I do. Great overview of the set up.
I had mine setup exactly the same... I ended up just doing one loop strap center mounted directly over my head and back to the stern dring. The two up front by the passengers are now non adjustable. Being center mounted the rear straps are no longer in your oar area and you keep your path on and off the raft unobstructed by straps. I only have the one cam/loop strap that tensions the whole top.
Hey Cody. It looks like if you let go of your oars (didn't ship), the oar would rip through and mangle the biminy frame. Is that correct? Or did you mount it far enough ahead so that doesn't happen?
You could move it a little bit forward, or just take that chance. You have good oar management, and I don’t think that scenario will be an issue for you

Can we get a video of how easy/difficult the bimini is to stow or deploy?

Great idea on having the straps in a different spot

I think you would still be fine. I would think the oar blade would hit the tube of your boat and keep it from rotating into the support brace.
Hmm. I just tried it, and it would definitely mangle the bimini frame. I bet yours would too. Mine is mounted 24" in front of my pin

I see lots of Bimini tops with 2 support poles (4 points of contact). Your top has only the 2 main attachment points. Comments on that?
It's surprising sturdy IMHO.
It holds up really well with just the two poles, and super easy to mount and position with only two attachment points
