i've been watching tom dwan since HSP season 4. this man has bluffed and been bluffed his whole life. to assess the situation correctly and call with that K2 hand is mega impressive. this guy is my favorite player to wtach. hope triton will come back soon so we can see him do some crazy shit at the highest stakes of poker in the world.
There were a bunch of straight draws that missed, and Phil's value range is only trips probably, maybe a few 9's. So I think Dwan was always calling that size, he just used his time cause it was a big pot. If Phil jams it would've been interesting.
Mate he has loads of old school showings on PAD also. You would love some of them. Free on RUclips . I wouldn't bother watching the PLO one even through I play PLO solely. His NL showing made for better TV. The K2 bet sizings ignored I guess he figured there were lots of busted draws Phil could have took that line with and with the price and look on his face I guess it was a marginal call. Tom has always been my favourite player. Him and Isildur
Not that impressive. Phil takes a lot of stabs at the pot when the board gets paired on the turn. And if you don’t believe him on the turn and call, you have to call the river. If Phil has the ace, it’s just plain bad luck.
If that K2-JJ hand was the other way around Hellmuth rages big time, couldn't count if there's more fvcks or random items flying around the studio. Thilt Hellmuth is a beautiful show...
That’s how Dawn got the read for the rivered 8 to take the huge lead. I didn’t see this against anyone else, but Dwan set the read, then made the call when it counted. Dwan uses the Helmuth magic and the GTO in a good mixture

Two absolute masters. Dwan had a dose of run good, but the call with King 2 was sick. Phil got so unlucky with his aces....probably the right line to double, sick cooler on the trip 9s. There must be a rematch!

Phil was the one constantly with the pocket pairs and the aces, and he binked a king with garbage against dwan's jacks (which if reversed helmuth wouldve killed someone). The match was won with dwans huge read and call with K2, not cuz of luck. Oh helmuths aces didnt hold up? Thats why u RAISE PREFLOP so they dont catch a piece then suck out. Dwans folding the 93, thats what phil gets for playing weird.
Dean owned all the small pots, and if you agree w most Heads Up specialist, PH’s hand won% is just too low to be successful - granted he did go on a 9 match winning streak so PH knows what he’s doing obviously. Doug in his post match analysis vs Daniel said Daniel winning - only - 48% of the pots is already nearly an impossible stat to overcome in NLHU, and PH is winning significantly less than that. Quite interesting how he can fly in the face of GTO and be so successful.
@@vinni522 Not that interesting if you ask me. Phil's success is in tournaments and that's very important when talking about his success in relation to him making GTO mistakes. Phil is the ultimate "feel" player. He's all about what does my opponent have right now and what is the best way to play against them at this particular moment rather than playing a GTO focused style where your opponents actual cards in any given hand become less important. Phil is about winning right here right now, which is much more optimal for tournaments rather than cash, obviously. Phil's style in a cash game against good players is filled with mistakes that can and will be exploited in the long run. But put him in a field that's 50% "bad" players for a two day tournament and he can make his reads, play his strategy with the blinds, run through fish and accumulate tons of chips and that's where he has had his success
That K high call is why Tom is one of the best in the world. So many A high bluff in that spot as well. And the bet was so big too given Hellmuths stack size. Bravo!
