I'm always amazed when I find a reactor who never heard this song before since it spent nearly a year on Billboard's Hot 100 which, at the time, was the longest a female recording had ever lasted on that chart.
This song is Beloved Anthem in Saint Luis recent years, Every time their NHL-Team Saint Luis Blues plays their Home matches the Hockey Arena & fans starts to sing this song especially after when they won their first Stanley Cup in 2019 it started with the players wanted to play a song in start of their season to boost themselves & they choose this song...It became so popular & loved by among the fans that the team can't be without that song at their home games now day's, it became their INTRO song...By the way I must say you have a great voice for Radio & as Narrator in a action movie or to be like someone at cinema who presents the movie & the cast for the audience
It started when one of the players played in the locker room and the blues started making their 2019 comeback. This song became our playoff anthem and was a huge morale boost for blues fans and the team. The Blues had a rough season and were the wildcard team for the playoffs. Against all odds, we won game after game eventually winning the Stanley Cup in Boston on game 7; winner-take-all.
It was played after home wins, not as an intro. It began mid-season when they had the worst record in the NHL and then went on to win the Stanley Cup. And it’s St. Louis, not Saint Luis.
Gloria was a (hypothetical) Pop Star who was a little too involved with herself, not so much with others around her, so, yeah, the lyrics got a bit snarky, for good reason. I was heartbroken when I learned that Laura had died... she was one of my favorites!
The song is deeper than most give it credit for. Despite the pop synth sounds, Gloria is tragic. For a similar vibe, give Betty Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes a listen.
I always took that Gloria was living in a fantasy world where most of what sees and hears in in her head. So yes I agree with the part you said she is mentally ill. "Just voices in your head"
I don't know if someone already wrote it, but this song is indeed a cover of an italian song by the artist Umberto Tozzi who wrote it in 1979. How can I know it, although I'm a complete ignorant as far as music is concerned ? That 's simple: I'm Italian and in 1979 I was sadly already in this world at the age of 12 (sadly, because this means that I'm over 50 now). You can find som info in english about the original song here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria_(Umberto_Tozzi_song) . Moreover you can listen at the original version of the song by Umberto Tozzi here ruclips.net/video/8Zs7VWqNGHg/видео.html or, if you want to see him performing the song in most recent time, you can look for exemple at the following url (Gloria is the secondo song that he performs. The first song is named "Tu", which means "You") ruclips.net/video/i3jBdNhPpcI/видео.html . And Last but not least (or probably last and also least) as far as the lyrics are concerned, it seems to me that the Laura Branigan version of the song , the lyrics are not a translation from the italian version. Probably they have changed a lot of the lyrics for phonetic reasons. If you want to read a more or less correct english translation of the italian version you can for exemple check the following page. At the end of the page there is an english translation of the original lyrics (and above it there you can find italian lyrics). dailyitalianwords.com/gloria-umberto-tozzi-lyrics-english-translation/ .It seems to me that the translation of the original italias is rather different from the Laura Branigan versiom (But I'm also not so good with the english language, so may be I'm wrong)
a song request going back to the early 1970's. "joy to the world" by three dog night. the group was my favorite band when i was in grade school. they had several big hits in their hayday.
At least on face value I always took Gloria as a cautionary song about some one trying to hard to have some one in their life, but boring of them quickly, just moving from person to person while also being self absorbed as to how good of a person they were, and this is the call out from some one that knows her.
I always thought she was trying to ask the hard questions, to make Gloria think first, before Gloria found herself going too far, playing silly games, making bad decisions and then would end up regretting among other things her loss of innocence that you can't get back, once you corrupt yourself.
This is a cover of an italian song ruclips.net/video/c1P8jDSsykc/видео.html She also made a cover of another italian song "self control" ruclips.net/video/1_TQjEn6cpQ/видео.html
I always figured “everyone wants you but nobody’s calling” meant calling as in seriously trying to establish a relationship. She’s too available. She’s a bootie call.
It looks to me like the song progresses. At the start Gloria is living the fast life, chasing men desperate to not be alone. She's destroyed her reputation by being easy to get, but nobody calls her after. The men however never call her again. So not really a booty call, but a pretty girl for a one night stand but no one calls after to take it to a serious level. Gloria is obviously on the run from that past "I think they got your number" "I think they got the alias that you've been living under". The singer then asks what she'll do next find someone serious (on the mainline) pick up someone on the rebound or not at all marry for money and have fun on the side. Regardless her life is slipping away from her and options going away. This was my favorite song when I was eleven/twelve coincidentally just when I just started learning English. Trying to understand it with my basic skills is probably why it's message always stuck with me.
As with many, many, many 80's pop songs, there is no rhyme or reason to the lyrics. This one was early to mid-80's, when I was a teen. It was VERY popular.
My grandmothers name was Gloria. She was cheating on her husband during the day towards the end but he was cheating on her too. This song still makes my. Mother cry and grandmother died 32 years ago.
@@julilla1 Oh no i actually adore the song. Mom cries at about a dozen songs and I know all of them and why. Gloria's also a really good name that should come back in style.
Why is this video at almost double speed, I found the original copy on youtube and played it on my laptop while watching your reaction on youtube on my tv and started them at the same time and your copy was on the 3rd line while the original copy was just starting the 2nd line, I know this song so well and knew it was off but I synced them up and played them at the same time just to double check and yes, Laura didn't sing this song that fast.
Ok,how to put this..maybe Gloria is a hit it and quit it type.Bad reputation for being overly careful and loose.Lives in the moment?Total guess.I've heard this chorus alot.
You should react to Will Smith slapping Chris rock at the Oscars real quick, The joke was uncalled for, but was Will’s reaction necessary, I wanna hear your opinion? Thanks in advance
This was quite big in the 80s....... Sounds a teeny weeny bit faster paced than the studio version to me. It's still good though. Maybe you could listen to that and let us know what you think!
One of the best voices in pop music.
Her song Self Control has always been a favorite song of mine! Takes me straight back to being a teen in the 80s! Such fun times!Keep On Rockin'
I'm always amazed when I find a reactor who never heard this song before since it spent nearly a year on Billboard's Hot 100 which, at the time, was the longest a female recording had ever lasted on that chart.
she's got another great song, Self Control

WOW been forever ...... That was a big hit in the 80's
This is a cover , the original is from 1979 An Italian song
I always took this song as meaning Gloria was making up stories about how popular she was.
love this song 👍
LET’S GO BLUUUES!

Radio station played this the same time every morning on my way to work. I'd sing it at the top of my lungs lol

I'm from STL -- this is the local Hockey anthem!

My generation, that’s what I’m talking about. I miss so much …..
How is it that I never "heard" how brutal this song is. I've heard this for 30 years and never caught the burn!
Self Control is her best one I think.
Laura singing Michael Bolton’s song How am I Supposed To Live Without You. You’ll never listen to Michaels version the same again.
We of the 80’s loved her. Big disco with sparkling ball. Her Power of Love is better than Celine. Also Sacrifice.
By far the best version of "The power of love" is the original by Jennifer Rush.
Self control is her famous song
You always find the most interesting versions of these classics. Hadn't seen this one either.
Try Laura´s live version of The Power of Love
good reaction ! :)
I suggest that you listen to her song "self control ".
RIP Laura. Tragic loss due to an undiagnosed heart condition.
Branigan died in her sleep on August 26, 2004, aged 52 officially attributed to a previously undiagnosed ventricular brain aneurysm. So sad.
This was made for a movie with Gina Rowlands back in the day
Fun Fact Both Gloria and Self Control are in the Gta Vice City games Gloria being in Vice City Stories and Self control being in Vice City
Very 80s!! I love it 👍
☮️💙💙💙🔥
I am gen X this was all over radio back in the 80s play gta3 or gta vice city these songs are on the rock station.
Sadly Laura Brannigan passed away in 2004.
I believe it was a brain aneurysm. 😫
The protagonist in the song is actually Gloria, singing to herself. Try that on for size.

Rest in Peace Laura
I always thought she was Gloria. Not in real life obviously, she's Laura. But I thought the song was about a woman singing to herself.
I always thought she was trying to ask the hard questions, to make Gloria think first, before Gloria found herself going too far, playing silly games, making bad decisions and then would end up regretting among other things her loss of innocence that you can't get back, once you corrupt yourself.

what's on that TV?
Am wondering the same.
If it's some of Mr. Boyd's camera work, I understand it being there. But otherwise, I find it too busy and very distracting.

Will was way out of line over such a simple joke. He should be ashamed of himself honestly.
The lady can defend herself. Will should know that. But it’s a complex issue and however the three decide to sort it is up to them.

Or maybe... she's Gloria.
Maybe she is talking about herself?
Watch the offical video, this one is not that great, and a little faster than the original
You always seem to find the worst versions of great songs.
Two thumbs down db....
