Their always saying "put on deodorant". I've used clinical strength deodorant, dove, degree, secret, I've even tried men's deodorant but nothing helps. They don't understand how difficult it is to manage body oder under the armpits with excessive sweat. Especially during the summer time.

I used to have a really bad body odor even though I followed all of the basic hygiene practices. It was so bad that I was known as the smelly kid in my school. One day, my english teacher pulled my desk outside of the classroom and made me take the class like that for the rest of the school year. I was utterly HUMILIATED. Now as an adult, I'm known for smelling good. I get complimented at least once a day on my scent.
    Here is my advice:
    1) When you shower, always finish off with lukewarm to cold water. A lot of us smell bad because we take hot showers and that heat is making us sweat! You won't feel it because your whole body is wet. If you're a naturally sweaty person, you know that your sweat doesn't immediately stop even if you go into a cool place. It takes a few minutes. Now imagine being in a hot shower, already sweating for a few minutes, then get out of the shower, and put on deodorant. It's not going to work. Since you're already sweating, the deodorant is just going to slide off. Even if you wiped your armpit dry before putting on the deodorant, it's still not going to work because you're already in active sweat mode. Also, when you're sweating and you out on deodorant, it wipes off on your clothes and becomes a magnet for your dirt, sweat, oils etc. Even if you do a thorough job washing your clothes, there will always be a residue because deodorant is very waxy. Over time, it cakes up and builds up on the armpit of your clothes. Even if you take a good shower, wear deodorant and wear freshly washed clothes, you can still stick. Once the heat of your body touches the armpit of your clothes, it softens the waxy residue of old deodorant, and it will cause an odor. You need to spend the last few minutes in the shower on cool water, so you can stop the active sweating and rinse out any other sweat.
    2) Wipe your armpits completely dry before putting on deodorant. If your armpit is damp, the deodorant will slide off.
    3) Use antiperspirant. If the deodorant doesn't have, antiperspirant on the label, then there is no point. You're probably going to smell.
    4) At least once a week, I rub lemon juice on my armpit. It's a natural armpit detox. Sometimes, while I rub the lemon on my armpit, I can smell the sweat getting stronger because it's pulling the odor out! I don't do it too often because it can irritate my armpit. *Edit* I no longer do this. Instead of lemon, I use the PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash. It has 10% benzoyl peroxide. It's not about the specific product. It's the benzoyl peroxide. BABY! When I tell you it will wipe out all odors. I especially love to use it on my bikini line when I am on my period. It wipes out all odor. Just don't do it too much or it will dry out your skin. Lemon is still good, but this is better.
    5) When applying deodorant, use a stick deodorant followed by a spray deodorant. For some reason, it just works!
    6) If I have a long day, I reapply my deodorant, but before I do, I use a wet wipe to clean up everything. Then use a napkin to dry my armpits off completely before I reapply a new layer.

For my fellow HS sufferers - or anyone who happens to read this. I use sensitive dove wash twice daily for my underarms and 10% Glycolic acid toner from Good Molecules 4-5x/week. Since using the glycolic acid, I have had ZERO use for deodorant other than for the fresh scent, but I typically don't use anything. What glycolic acid does is not only helps exfoliate the top layers of skin, but it also lowers the PH of your skin. When your skin's PH is lowered, it makes it a hostile environment for bacteria to thrive. This means there are fewer bacteria to break down the thioalcohol and yeast build-up from your sweat glands and skin. Thioalcohols contain sulfur and when it decomposes it's released causing the odor. It also helps with the HS by giving our tracts less chance of bacteria entering and causing a flare-up. I have been using this method for close to 6 months now and I have had only two flares of 2-3 nodes as opposed to it happening monthly with 4-5 in each underarm. Granted I have moderate HS but it's calmed down to a very mild case and I attribute it solely to the glycolic acid.

Hi. Genuine question.... what does HS mean?

    • @Imnotnaked
      @Imnotnaked 3 года назад +16

@@laluna9909 Hidradenitis suppurativa. It's an auto-inflammatory illness. With HS, our bodies produce too many inflammatory proteins, including TNF-alpha. This imbalance leads to increased inflammation throughout the body. People with HS also tend to have arthritis and asthma ( I have all three ) . This increased inflammation affects the deep layers of the skin, causing pressure that builds and becomes abscesses. ( Or just long tracks of tunnels of infection under the skin that constantly drain) Women are 3x more likely to get it than men and there is a genetic link. It has nothing to do with poor hygiene, it's not contagious and it's not an STD. The nodules/infections are EXTREMELY painful and we are constantly at war with our bodies. Depending on where the infections are, and how severe they are it can cause disability/inability to function in daily activities or have quality of life.

Hi Ash, happy to see you address an issue thst is "real!" I have struggled 30 years plus with this. I can help! Natural remedies sames to work best. Years ago I came across a video on youtube. Instructions are- 3 (large) garlic cloves to one leamon (important- lime will not work), and not Myers lemon, orginal no "cross-breed). Grind cloves and add to a container with lemon. Leave in container' 8 hours minimum. At night, take a cotton ball and apply solution to a clean and dry armpit. Make sure to rub the entire area. Note that the odor from the solution will dissipate.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE A DEODERANT, also, exfoliating can cause irritation while using the solution.
Extremely important: always clean the armpit with an antibacterial soap. This is as important as the solution. After a while, you would be able to go 3 to 5 days without applying solution. However, never stop using the antibacterial soap. I USE DETTOL (only the original-yellow). This is guaranteed to work!
Also, this is not related to the remdey, but it will help!
Those of us that has this issue, can wear breathable tops only. Cotton, linen, pure silk, viscose etc. A blend of these will also work. Stay away from them twins- Poly and Ester!

My teenagers were having all kinds of under arm odors, my daughters armpits turned dark etc, the dermatologist suggested taking an actual bath with Epsom salts. It’s like $5 for a giant bag and it only takes 1 cup per bath. It draws out imperfections. Also my daughter had success with the clinical version of deodorant bc it keeps you drier and it’s bacteria that causes the smell.

Here's a simple, inexpensive and effective approach. My friend told me about it - I tried it and it works! Use lime juice. Just cut a lime and us a half as deodorant after each shower or bath. It is not an antiperspirant, but as long as you put it on immediately after shower or bath twice a day - underarm odor gone like magic. try it and let us know.

Thank you, for sharing one of the most important jewels everyone should learn, before learning how to tie their shoes. Afterall, a female's body goes through many challenges through a lifespan and many of us were never properly taught. Again, I say thank you! Keep up the good work!
I dealt with this issue once for about a year, before I really understood, 'You are what you eat!'
Anywho, I said that to say this: When injusting sugar and meats (beef, pork, etc.) they have a tendency of creating this weird smell in your bowels, which will come through your pores with perspiration from our body.
Just like alcohol. People who drink alcohol, eventually the smell will seep through their pores not only from their breath.
Therefore, I highly recommend this to help level your PH balance: Drink plenty of water; cleanse your body thoroughly (along with everything that you mentioned), using white cloths (only twice weekly), then get a fresh one.
Always use a separate cloth for your face (cleaning the cloth thoroughly in-between use); and do a slight dietary change as well.
Hope these added tips help, in more ways than one, to really maintain great personal hygiene, much love!

I do a underarm detox 1-2x a month. Calcium Bentonite Clay + ACV(not right after a shave). Let dry, rinse clean. Keep hair minimal to non existent. When you clean under your arms in the shower, scrub from side to side vs. up & down. I like to gently use my fingernails, you will notice that add'l odor comes out and the pits will be truly cleansed after a few times of doing it this way! Stress is #1 cause I've noticed in my own body of under arm odor. Because I bathe 2-3x a day. That Dr. B's bar soap is BOMB, totally agree. Also the Kirk's Coco Castille bar soap is excellent option as well, and inexpensive. I love the original and the aloe the best. I use my scented gels and cleaners after I've gotten the main cleaning done. That cheap arm & hammer Essentials deodorant is my go-to. I just roll it on, let it dry for a few minutes, then hit it with a very light dusting of a spray deodorant or light powder. You will be set!

What worked for me, I stopped using regular deodorant. It seems like regular deodorant gets stuck under your arm causing even more odor. I had to detox my underarm for a month using clay masks mixed with water and apple cider vinegar. I would wash with either a pine tar soap, dr. Bonners Soap, an antibacterial soap or all 3 at times. Then I would wipe under my arms with witch hazel and then I would apply some of the crystal stick mineral deodorant (the stick lasts for about 2 years). After about a month, I didn’t have to use the clay masks anymore and could just wash regularly using one of the soaps that I mentioned and then I apply the witch hazel and crystal stick deodorant. I’ve been doing it this way for years and it has treated me right. I can even skip a day. 👀🤷🏾‍♀️. Also, once you start using natural deodorants, please don’t flip flop and go back to regular deodorants, if you do, you will have to start the underarm detox all over again! If I am extremely sweaty, currently in menopause, I just tap a little cornstarch under my arms and it helps absorb the sweat.
Also, shaving can cause razor burn after a while. Be careful. I suggest waxing. Also, I find those sugar scrubs to harsh for my underarms. You just need a light exfoliant, like a Dove exfoliant body wash or the exfoliating glove. You will want to rub lightly, because the skin under your arms is delicate. I hope with all of the suggestions, everyone can find a routine that works for them! ❤

Thank you for the suggestions! I feel like I have tried and wasted money on so many products over the last couple of years. It seems like after I turned 40 yrs old, my hormone balance is all out of wack, but I’ve noticed only an issue with my underarms. Deodorants I used to wear before with no issue, and without it wearing off does not work at all now.
I’ve tried Schmidt’s, Native, Lume, changed my diet, drink only water and add lemon, cucumber and lime, nothing has changed for my underarms, and matter of fact, it’s made the odor worst it seems. So Im crossing my fingers for a few of the suggestions from you and what people have commented.

Use lime juice. Just cut a lime and us a half as deodorant. It is not an antiperspirant, but as long as you put it on immediately after shower or bath twice a day - underarm odor gone like magic. try it and let us know.

i don’t know if you addressed this in your video because i didn’t watch it all the way through. after reading some of the comments, i think some people need to know that there is a difference between deodorant and antiperspirant. deodorants help with smell, and antiperspirants help you sweat less. some “antiperspirants” on the market are antiperspirants and deodorants combined. so if you’re looking to help with smell and to sweat less, you’ll want to get one that is a combined deodorant and antiperspirant.

dial gold antibacterial bar works good to kill under arm pit smell, don't put it on your private or inside the vajay, but under belly, under rolls, feet, neck, back it cuts the grease on your skin. you just have to moisturize afterwards.

I used; The Ordinary Glycolic Acid, Dr Bronners Soap, and a scrub very similar to the Tree Hut one. Using the Old Spice Shea Butter deodorant. I stay fresh all day, no reapplication.

I have recently began using dove unscented bar soap and i have notice I do not have body odor anymore so i think all these scented products feed bacteria. Also wintergreen is good and will help with underarm odor or under belly too, my deceased spouse had diabetes and he had issues with odor from it he used the gold bond powder between his legs and under his arms and it kept the odor at bay.

I've been making my own natural deodorant for 20+ years. I can't use baking soda so I had to search for alternatives. Magnesium hydroxide is the replacement. If you find plain milk of magnesia with not a lot of additives, should be 3 the most, you can use it as a deodorant. You can also use diaper rash cream with zinc oxide, just add a butter/oil to make it more spreadable. I also make my own natural bar soap, using similar ingredients as Dr. Bronners, cleans great.

I use to be OBSESSED with not having body odor.
I would shower 2-3 times a day and wash my body 5 times each time and then I would load my underarms with deodorant.
Then about ten years ago, my underarms became badly clogged and infected.
I had to get my sweat glands and hair follicles removed.
I was then recommended by my Dr office to change my routine and products.
After many products and years I now use a tea tree oil and mint wash to kill bacteria, I use lever soap, and then I use my fragrant shower gels.
Luckily, I don't have to shave or use deodorant because I no longer grow hair or sweat.
However, i will occasionally use deodorant just for the smell but not regularly.

Awe, its okay. If you think its the oil, then stop for a couple weeks and see if you notice a difference.
We don't realize the harm we do to ourselves with all these products especially when we mix and match and use so many.

A method that I use for sweaty armpits is using a stick deodorant and then spraying a spray on deodorant on top of that. The only flaw with this method is that it does leave white residue but other than that you wont sweat as much if not at all with this method. It also doesn’t leave any sweat stains on white shirts. Ofc everyone is different but hopefully this method can help someone ☺️
