      Most fun car I've owned yet it's the second slowest fun car I've owned. I've had an MR2 roadster (slowest) Fiat Coupe 20v turbo, BMW Z4M and two Vauxhall VX220s, one with 218bhp.

    Good old Mazda Mx5's Tiny wheel base gives tonnes of Snapback, which makes it much more specific about how it wants to be drift, there is more chance of accidental oversteer, it loses grip at the back easily, but with too much throttle you'll oversteer, and without enough throttle, you'll get snap back when trying to straighten out... the Mx5 will definately teach you to Drift better for sure, very specific car to drift.

    Glad I found this! Just got one last month and been getting to grips with it in the local empty carparks. I found it kinda difficult to exit any drifts smoothly and thought it was my lack of practice. Glad to know it's just a tricky car to drift. Drift limits is within a reasonable travel distance from me, so maybe I'll treat myself to a couple of visits a year. :)

    Great video and a lot of fun. Drifting is easier on a welded differential. Thank you Mr. Fanders.

    As someone that’s owned a 350z for nearly 8 years and done 60k+ miles in it, I’m really intrigued to how the drift one feels. Mine has an LSD and has been good for being playful but the difference you found between the Mazdas with welded diff and LSD was surprising.

    • @RichardFanders
      @RichardFanders  Год назад

      I've gone a little bit sideways in a standard 350z before at an airfield track day. It felt like it would be a nice car to drift. But it was my friends car so I didn't go too hard on it - he has had it about 12 years now I think but rarely drives it.

    Those airfields have a very abrasive surface - not ideal for getting the car to slide.

    I had exactly the same warning messages doing the same in mine...! Clearly some sensors get upset when going sideways.

    • @RichardFanders
      @RichardFanders  2 года назад +7

      Took me absolutely ages. It's not normal dirt, strangely enough I found upholstery cleaner was the chemical than removed it easily. Last thing I expected to work. I also took the wheels off and cleaned the suspension.

    Yes sir it can drift. It can even drift slow motion in the wet. I bought one in 2016 and have done extensive mods just to drift and track it. The rear sway bar settings are everything. Get a Megan racing or other adjustable system with some adjustable end links. On low setting it grips like a boss. On high setting with a lsd it feels close to a welded diff. It's easy to power over in 1st and 2nd and the clutch can take a clutch kick beating. I have 70k on mine with about 5000 miles or so track/ drift time and the only problems I had was one over heat on a 115° day and 2 cracked a/c lines due to body bend during drifts. Mazda has since made thicker lines as apperently I wasent the only one with the problem

      hey! experienced the same as mister in the video here, very snappy when you have little angle. I drift mine much better than in this vid, but when there isn't much space, I'm always a bit worried about transitions since the car is very confusing at those low

    Nice to get a detailed feedback on the ND drifting characteristics!
    I assume you weren't afraid of issues with oil pressure, then?

    • @RichardFanders
      @RichardFanders  Год назад +4

      It can handle 1.4g and maintain oil pressure.

    Do you have TCR fully closed? I dont know if you can do it in the ND but my NC can disable it completely with a long press. If not it applies brakes slightly and it causes you to spin which is not optimal for drifting.

    What is a tank slapper? Why does it happen?

    • @RichardFanders
      @RichardFanders  2 года назад +11

      A tank slapper is when you try to straighten the slide but it snaps back and slides the other way and then you try to straighten that slide and you snap back and slide the other way again, you go from left to right. This car is more prone to it than any car I've owned even though my skill is higher than it's ever been. The mid engined cars I've owned snapped into over steer but didn't snap back as much when trying to straighten. This car doesn't snap into oversteer but is more likely to snap back.
