PIOOCAN L2 Video Transcript:
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• So this is my first PIOOCAN light and I believe, the only one that's released so far. One unique thing about this light is that it has an interesting reflector design I've never seen before. It's a seriously good thrower, especially for its size. Hang around until the end as I will show you a closer look, including some tests and beamshots!
• What do you get in the box?
• Comparison with other AA flashlights: Cyansky P12R, TS10, Acebeam Pokelit AA
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• Construction is good, especially for this price point. Quite a simple design, there are some tasteful cutouts on the head, and tail cap, and some knurling.
• Smooth anodizing - it's slightly slippery. The knurling helps but could be more grippy. You can also get this light in the usual black anodizing too.
• Double-sided friction clip, single rubber switch on the tail cap. Does not sit flush so cannot tail stand. The switch itself feels firm and is easy to find in the dark. Takes 14500/AA/NiMH.
• Osram P8 with combination OP/SMO reflector and glass lens. I compared the P8 with the P9, and the die surface appears smaller than the P9. This could improve the throw. The only way to know is to swap a P9 in there to compare. Slightly crenulated bezel.
UI - modes
• Gone are the days when I liked complex, multi-configuration UIs - these days I prefer simple ones like this one on the L2.
• Press tailswitch to turn on. Half-press to cycle LMH. Double press for strobe.
• 1-second memory mode - I prefer this to a 3-second memory mode.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• Very throwy beam for a 14500-cell flashlight. Lots of usable spill too.
Considerations
• The clip not rigid enough, would be better with some stronger steel.
• Looks like it may have a FET driver, based on longer runtime tests.
• Does not tail-stand.
Verdict
This is one of the best value throwy EDC flashlights out there - it's affordable and can also take primary cells which is a huge bonus, especially for mainstream users and in case of power outages. - Наука
Hi Darren! I'm impressed by the innovate reflector design on the P2. Thanks for introducing it to us and for the nice review! I liked the beam profile. Hope you're having a nice day and I appreciate your dedication and hard work getting these videos out to us!
Hey Gus, it looks odd but works quite effectively :D would like to see this on larger lights too. Been a long day mate, I'm also running a painting show this weekend. Hope you've been well!
Just tonight,,, coincidentally, I got to try out 2 OP reflectors purchased to do reflector swap in my Convoy S21 and C8+(Both SFT40 ). Both had very sharp rings and rather weak spill. The OP widened the hot spot , decreased the throw , but made the spill WAY more useful. This hybrid approach looks to be a very common sense compromise which I would expect to see proliferate throughout the flashlight manufacturers
Yeah it's a great idea and makes the transition from spot to flood more seamless. Maybe without reducing throw as much.
I just bought one of these for my edc for 18$ on amazon and I was completely stunned on how good this little light was..super bright with a nice beam and flood and the quality is good..I wish the clip was more of a deep pocket but it works
Great to hear mate, it's an impressive light especially if you haven't used a throwier light before! And yes the clip is a weakness but at this price point, still decent.
I purchased the orange a few weeks ago , I’m very pleased with it , I got it $19 bucks , nice light 👍
Yeah it's surprisingly powerful in terms of throw. That Osram LED is also very efficient so not much heat compared to some of my other lights.
Nice , would love to see one with an sft40 led...
Or Osram W2. Could implant one...
I just bought a 4 dollar plastic headlamp from a Chinese import store and it has that combo reflector, is a cheap led, but the beam is actually good, is a big plastic reflector like 40mm so very good throw,
asi es .... ilumina mas una linterna china barata 👍
It's a good idea hey, because it preserves at least some of that spill. Restributes light from the centre to the edges, but not sure how much and to what extent it would affect the candela.
@@rafaelbarbosa2597 depende tambien que tan barata, yo uso mucho sofirn wurkkos y convoy, Creo que es lo mejor por El precio, pero siempre Tengo por ahi una de esas de plastico para cuando laguien me pide una jajajja
@@DarrenYeoYT it makes the transition smooth, and I don't think it affects to much the candela, the OP is the part of the reflector that produces the corona
Aye Darren again ur channel is the shit!… what is your favorite LEP flashlight for a budget and not on a budget??
Hey Dave, thank you! Hmm well budget wise, LEDs aren't a great choice though Mateminco (FW2), Lumintop and this other one I've seen around "Natfire" seems to be more competitive in price. Maxtoch, Weltool, Nextorch (I own the T20L, T10L), ACEBEAM are pricier but have extra features.
Ty bro I truly appreciate your due diligence! Keep on dropping those bad ass reviews… peace and hair grease dog!
Thanks bro, it's a lot of work to make these but fun and rewarding too :) @@davemilitano6561
I will give this a try. The American listing has it as a P9 LED.
The American listing had it for $20 with 15% discount. P9? Maybe mislabeled.
Clip is average but rest of the light is good.
@@DarrenYeoYT Yes. Hey P9 or P8, it looks like a useful flashlight. These are the type that make great gifts. Maybe different LEDs for different countries?
Yeah probably. Did some quick research and the P9 is newer apparently. @@TopDog8762
@@DarrenYeoYT Well I received them and its a P8. Went to submit a correction to the Amazon listing and its been changed to P8.
What are the specs, lumens, run times. Do you think it's fair to compare a 14500 battery to a AA?
The specs are available on that Amazon link, though it only states 1200 lumens. I don't have a proper lumen tube unfortunately but working on it. The L2 accepts AA as well but it's definately not as bright.
Yes they are a sister company of Wuben.
Hello friend. I've already had flashlights that use a reflector that has smooth & orange peel combined and they're using a larger reflector, larger than an L21B but I don't think they're game-changers. For me, the game-changer reflector design goes to the mateminco FT03. BEST reflector design if you want flood and throw combination in a very compact factor.
Hey buddy, ah yes I have the FT01 from awhile back and it seems to have similar design to the FT03. Very nice looking beam with both throw/flood, though I find it a bit awkward to carry around due to head diameter.
@@DarrenYeoYT I agree :D
This looks kinda like Ripsshine EL1 1300 lumen that was on AE for $17 the other day. They raised the price $10 though.
Not surprised, I haven't heard of that brand before notice many brands seem to come out of a handful of factories.
Better than t3 with all its modes?
Between this and the T3, assuming the same price, I'd take the T3 due to emitter options, option of copper/titanium. But this light is targeted to a general consumer. Everything is included. Even the battery has a charging port.
i love my t3 ti, good range and very good spill aswell. just got an s6 6500k with sft40 and i gotta say id much rather carry my t3. little more spill and beam is more concentrated but maybe i just have to use the s6 more.@@DarrenYeoYT
Darren - an excellent review, but a small criticism from me. You make a 14 minute reveiw and no lumen figures are shown or even mentioned. It would have taken less than 30 seconds to mention them. Now I have to go and research them myself😮.
Hi Simon, I am in the process of building a lumen tube, have been delaying it longer than I should. So at the moment have no way of measuring output other than those ceiling bounce tests. Hope to include proper lumen measurements soon.
@DarrenYeoYT - do you use a mobile app to measure relative intensity? If so, which one?
Looks like FourSevens box?
Interesting, I saw foursevens had a Collab with Prometheus. I know Prometheus is linked to Wuben. There's your clue :D
Yeah I think FourSevens is made my Prometheus now? The box I got my quark looked similar. Seems like a great light for the money there. I can’t buy everything but I really enjoy watching your videos to see what they’re capable of! I got a shorty Convoy S6 with a SFT40 and man what a light for the money.
Those Convoy lights are unbeatable value. They don't look special but performance to price ratio.. couldn't recommend anything else @@KnifeNinjaEDC
FourSevenes vibes from this
The company that manufactures this light is Wuben. However I've seen foursevens linked to Prometheus lights, which is also linked to Wuben 🤔
looks very similar to the Wuben flashlights
They're made in the same factory
@@DarrenYeoYT wouldn't be surprised. At least that means that the quality is good. I picked one up a week ago and haven't been disappointed yet
The battery looks just like a Wuben battery
You're right, it's a sister company to Wuben
It's 50 dollars not 20 on Amazon
This is the affiliate link I put in the description: amzn.to/3wAt8qy
I set the post code to Clarksville and it shows as $20 with addition 15% off voucher. May be due to delivery outside of the states?
Wuben...box and battery.
Yep! I expected you to get it mate 😁
It would be really nice if companies would offer neutral and warm emitters but all they care about is how many lumens they can write on the box. I can't stand 6500k totally unnatural looking and obnoxious in my opinion.
Works well for us long range nuts but I get where you're coming from. It's annoying at night for general use and I tend to use a warmer tinted light around the house.
That is why there are so many flavors of ice cream. I hate warm emitters and prefer bright white lights.
The better manufacturers do, I hate a white light, Gotta be neutral, or I won't buy it
I dunno, depending on CRI I think 6500K could work. My newest 5700K Nichia 519A gave me ideas.
Yes I would prefer a cool white and neutral for every model offered !!!!
Wuben
Yeah you got it
lumintop.
Another good brand. I haven't been successful in getting in touch with them though.
ROVYVON is so much better
Different price point though 😁 RovyVon has superior quality to many lights I've owned.
