    We retired a 5-year-old NightHawk R6400 and were amazed at the speed and range increase. And the setup was stupid easy. I bought a sing;e Pro 6 on sale for $129 and it's a beast. And it reminds me of my old Apple Airport Express.

    I have that same Nighthawk, the fact that there's no speed degradation is good, I was worried that I would lose speed because of the lack of actual antenna's. I just installed a mesh network to connect my mom's house and my grandma's who lives next door to the same network because my grandma just needs WiFi so we can set her up with something for video chat, and her paying for her own internet is silly.

    Have you tried using a switch and ethernet with your tv? I ask because I can use ethernet connected to a switch and get internet on my Lg tv but the tv will show "not conncected" even though it is. The Eero app also shows the Lg is not connected even though it is. I'm thinking the switch is doing something weird that the tv doesn't recognize.

    You have a 900mbps connection but this speed is only over ethernet? The Eero is only connecting at 3-400?? and you are still recommending it? why? If you are next to a WiFi router and it's performing at under 50% of the wired speed then that's NOT good performance and something is wrong. The WiFi should be almost identical speed to the ethernet - you should not be losing over 50% of your speed because of it being WiFi

      i can confirm this too, after ordering fiber 500/500 Mbps from frontier, they gave me this router. I compared it to my personal router which is a Netgear XR450 which is only wifi 5 and the wifi speed is at near 480Mbps compare to eero going roughly 350 Mbps.

    I've just bought 2 of those in the U.K. should get them tomorrow. Been waiting for them. I've been using Google WiFi which worked until the stopped IPV6 working. So I've been playing around with Ubiquiti gear and it's a nightmare and does not work with all my devices as expected! I tried Google Nest and IPV6 is working again, but it's slow with my works laptop VPN which is now an essential requirement.
    So I'll try the eero pro 6. I only have 70mbps internet speeds but next year we are getting gigabit so want something fast and reliable for that upgrade. Plus I'm tired of crawling through forums and emailing tech support to get the Ubiquiti equipment to even just work with my Xbox properly!

    Nice video. I’d add that eero secure recently added ability to block (or allow) specific sites to profiles. This helps us because our kids were watching RUclips on their chromebooks instead of their teachers during online/virtual school. Also, this is on our 1st gen eero system (6 years old maybe?), which speaks to the benefits of the eeros’ software updates.

      This is the wifi 6 router and you need wifi 6 devices to take full advantage. It is backwards compatible with wifi 5 devices too.

    • @jaycorbin5361
      @jaycorbin5361 3 года назад

      Short answer is no. Wifi 6 is backwards compatible to Wifi 2 (also knows as 802.11b) same as Wifi 5, so there's no difference in use as of yet. The only difference is that Wifi 6 has a higher cap, so if you had a massive 100Gbps internet, Wifi 6 would cover more of that range than Wifi 5. As for normal people, no difference yet.

  • @sailbatten2056
    @sailbatten2056 3 года назад

    Quick question: When you wired your house with fibre, you saw speeds go up, but did the latency get worse? Remember, bit per second speeds have very little to do with latency---and we're not talking about the latency within the fibre itself, but the transfer from light to electrical signals at several points. I know two homes where they were absolutely convinced they improved speed and latency, and when measured it was shown that latency skyrocketed with home level equipment and all of their gaming "wow" was Confirmation Bias at work.
    Gamers are usually the first to insist on fibre, but they forget two things: 1. The bottleneck is to the ISP, and then from there to the server, and then the server itself. And 2. speed and latency are only distantly related concepts, and 3. Speed isn't what impacts gaming anymore once you're at 100mbps and above. It's ping (latency) that does.

    • @jaycorbin5361
      @jaycorbin5361 3 года назад

      Considering it takes 250 MILES to get 15ms of ping, there isn't a house in existence big enough to get noticeable latency through internet. If you're experiencing latency through that system, it's usually streaming, which is not your fault

    • @sailbatten2056
      @sailbatten2056 3 года назад

      @@jaycorbin5361 no. What you're talking about is single connection propagation latency. Latency is introduceable in other forms, such as having crappy buffering in one of the midpoints. Ping takes all of that into account (RT) and is the ultimate bottom line of latency (which AYK is also obviously distinct from throughput).

    Mesh is about whole house coverage. To test the speed next to the router defeats the purpose. It's like testing a Formula 1 car is using a drag strip; the thing is meant to turn. Go to the outer edge of your house and do the test. Also, not all houses have the fiber drop conveniently in the center of the house cube. Mine is all the way in the corner of the basement, making getting a signal on the second floor spotty without mesh.

      Because the Nethawk is a beast, lol! Honestly the only better speeds he would theoretically get would be in rooms that got spotty coverage under the single router. I don't know why one would expect to get better speeds simply because it's a mesh network, that's not what a mesh network does... not unless the device can grab 2 streams and use them in tandem like those old 128k modems.
