You also forgot that Orbi charges for customer service. For simple phone or tech support they charge you. So you buy almost a 500 dollar system to later pay more for some support.
@@camsecore I already have a modem so I bought a Pro 6 and an Orbi CBR750 (modem/router) just to see if I'd notice a big difference with the Orbi router/modem combo. I have a 3 story house and compared both routers with satellites and without. For my setup the satellites actually made the connection worse than just the main router. I even spoke to tech support on both brands and we did several placement tests and they said to not even bother with them. So for me it was $229 for the Eero vs $400 for the Orbi CBr750. The Eero gave the same stats as the Orbi. If I factored the cost of the modem then I guess the Eero would still be cheaper but not by much. Anyways, love the content man!

Even for an old network engineer like myself. When reviewing the parental controls of routers, I would love deep dives.

There are a few reasons: The Orbi has more ports in the back and since I have a home office, it is just better for me. I would have needed to buy a switch with eero and I did not want yet another piece of hardware to worry about. Also, have heard a lot of issues with locals here using eero. And lastly, the reviews for the eero app were horrible and the Orbi was off the charts great. Best Buy is coming over on Saturday to install it so we shall see. I currently have a netgear nighthawk which is working fine but was looking to replace it since it's 6 years old and because my wifi is not as strong on the outer fringes of my 2,500, 3 story home.
my 752 I just bought renewed from Amazon is definitely capable of gig speeds. I get 800 up and down next to the main and the hardwired node. It's a great device. I imagine if im almost maxing out my gig connection the 852 will only be marginally better. got mine for a steal at $180

I’ve desperately tried to make the eero pro 6 to work in my house but after lots of troubleshooting with eero it’s going back. I have a weird issue where my middle eero node stops sending wifi signal every 24 hours. It receives wifi and sends via Ethernet fine. It’s weird. Just don’t think these are as powerful as the Orbi. My old Orbi system had zero issues. So I am returning the eero for the RBK853.

does a Wifi 6 / AX router improve the speeds of Wifi 5 / AC devices that aren't reaching expected speeds on a Wifi 5 router? I currently have Google Wifi, which is rated to a max of 1200mbps, and my macbook pro in theory could get 1300mbps, but I have only gotten a maximum of 250mbps. My connection to the street is around 800-900mbps depending on the test.
I have a detached metal outbuilding less than 30 yards from the house. What mesh components would I need to get internet (WiFi) to that outbuilding for my TV streaming. . I can get wiki when I am outside the building by the window, but not when I am inside the building by the same window. Running any type of Ethernet or fiber cable underground is not a viable option so WiFi is what I am hoping to run. I'm running Fiber in the house at 100mbps. Any help would be appreciated.

Please do one more test… disconnect the main unit form ISP to simulate an internet down condition. Does the internal home network stay fully up. Do Wi-Fi devices still talk to each other and to wired devices hooked to nodes? All my eero pro 6 unit turned red and my local network went down. This should not happen. I will be running my own test… wait I think you may have said eero local goes down with ISP???? That is not acceptable. A smart home becomes dumb. Especially one not using cloud services….

I was thinking about getting Eero pro 6 since my internet provider gave us a eero pro 5 and an extender for free because we have gigabit internet. but I wasn't sure how well it is to mix and match like that? Because currently the cable modem with the eero is in a bad place in the house, and the extender is more in the basement, but I was thinking if I got the 6 and got a few more nodes, they should be able to extend the wireless more throughout the house and increase my speeds. Thoughts?
@@camsecore thank you. I ended up getting them today and setting it up. I'm personally loving it. Work calls are great as I'm downloading 30+ MB a second on steam. Where before I would get maybe 12, and everything else would slow down to a crawl with robot voices for voice calls. Haha
I really wanted to like the Eero 6 Pro, however I'm sending it back since it doesn't support PPPOE and having to have a clunky CenturyLink GB fiber router laying around is a deal breaker for me. Also the added cost of security+. I'm not sold on the ORBI either, any "EERO" alternative that you would recommend for fiber GB internet but somewhat budget friendly.
sounds like centurylink sucks and should swap over to dhcp lol. I also have a telco fiber provider and that was part of their upgrade when running fiber all over the place, eliminating ppoe since its trash
You definitely should have gotten the 852 the 4200 version is kind of garbage. Range is phenomenal on both but that 6000 is bonkers. If you just need a single power user router look into the ax120. Fastest link speed I've seen with the s21 ultra and ax120 at 2.2gbps
Orbi's always had a good app store ranking, while Eero's has steadily declined over the years. Eero's rating was mid-4s a few years ago. My best guess for the ranking is a combination of the UI overhaul (which I thought was fine but people don't like change), the type of user (usually the most beginner level), and the Amazon acquisition (people don't like big tech).
Orbi is frustrating. Too many features require a subscription and the app sucks. It is also terrible and putting devices on the the satellite, like my security camera. The image quality will degrade every so often since I installed Orbi and when I look it is placing it on the router instead of the satellite that is much closer. Once it switches back things are fine, but it is annoying.
i dumped orbi RBK752 (1 router and 5 sattelites)my house is quite big with outdoor activities, and has thick walls. I tried to cover with 3 sattelites, then went to 4, then to 5. In direct vision they are fine, switching to another node sucks on orbi. Router is laggy so i went to Mikrotik router and Orbi as AP, that worked for a few years. But im sick of that. sooo lame Orbi firmware. Maybe Orbi hardware is good, but software i guess i written by indian amateurs and compiled by chineese juniors and then published. NEVER, NEVER GO WITH ORBI! Eero covered the same space with 3 devices, maybe speeds are little less, but i choose stability over speed. All my hardware that can be hardwired are wired, so only phones and laptops are wireless and those speeds suit me good with no affect
Eeros is bad bought the Erro pro 6 can NOT connect to any pre existing 2 4 ghz devices, who wants to reset 20 devices? Not me this dude must be paid for opinion

Ring pro alarm system has the eero 6 built in, maxes out at 500mbps. Not the eero 6 pro which can do 1000mbps

You could! But I wouldn't really consider Eero 6 an upgrade to Eero Pro.

Assuming you're getting a proper connection from your ISP, play around with your node placement.
