In our lecture about Theromdynamics we learned a lot of different versions of the 2nd law, stated by different scientists. I think in the exam I will write "In an isolated system entropy can only increase...", stated by Muse.
After years of listening this on youtube i finally got to see them and hear this live at Stadium Bukit Jalil!!! It was surreal and one hell of an experience!!!
If my memory does not fail me, this is the song that plays during the closing credits of World War Z, although I don't remember it having this uptempo beat.
I see this as humanity running from inevitable extinction. As previously established, in an isolated system, entropy can only increase. Even though Physics dictates that the human race, among with all things, will come to an end, as a race we a we determined to keep running from it. When the woman runs the opposite way, it could symbolise how we will only realise this when it's too late. Just my view.
To which I answer: Space. The Final Frontier. These are the......No really though. I think space exploration will probably only go so far. We are insanely and impossibly far away from any other system that can support life that we know of. We will burn a bright but short flame, then the universe will move on as if nothing happened. We will return to the stars as our base elements and be reborn into something else, be it inert or alive. Kinda beautiful in a way.
+Eoghan Corr but even exploring space, the universe is a closed system, and eventually entropy will increase to the point in it that the entire universe will end
@@ShadoeLass nope, Universe is infinte, so we can't apply Second Law to it. There must some more general and broad law to acknowledge the infinity of our universe but we don't have data to somehow find it and I guess we will never will
Imagine being one of the first humans to become truly sentient, self aware and in possession of the knoweldge of death... Imagine being a member of the last generation of sentient beings in existence... The universes last chance to dream, dance, sing, contemplate and love.
In all reality this will be experienced by something very far in the future, maybe from us, maybe not, orbiting a black hole, in our universe that is consumed by only darkness, other than the light that comes from their ship. As the song says entropy in an isolated system will always be reached, and we can only survive with disorder.

Scanning the other comments, all I can see is stuff about how cool this song is, how cool the effects are, and how this song was in World War Z. I don't know if any of you actually realize the scary truth behind this song. Granted, the video is an artist's depiction of an event we can never comprehend (and quite possibly, never see). Regardless, this is a future we are heading toward. If you pay attention to the song preceding this one, The 2nd Law: Unsustainable, the message in that is that we, as the human race, are destroying our home. I wouldn't say I'm super-green, but there are definitely things we need to worry about. Please pay attention to the message Muse is trying to send us. I understand that environmentalism has been heard of unfavorably, but there are a lot of very simple things you can do that can save the planet. I'm not asking you to change anything. I'm just asking that you think more about this topic because we are heading down an unsustainable path, and, quite frankly, it scares the hell out of me.
dude, we have to leave earth eventually, even without humans, the earth and all life on it will some day be gone, this place is getting too small for our population anyways
So much arrogance in this line: "a lot of very simple things you can do that can save the planet". Not trying to offend or anything, this line is thrown very often in today's media/everyday lives. But still, us trying to save the planet is like our gut bacteria trying to save our own body. The planet has been through worse than us and recovered, but like every other entity in the universe, it has a life span and all we are doing is burning through that life span as fast as possible, as mister Hitler puts it, we have to hightail it outta here A.S.A.P.
“It scares the hell out of me.” Nobody: Me: and the end is all I can seeeeee. If you don’t get this you obviously haven’t listened to thoughts of a dying atheist. Which you should cause it’s awesome
Excellent work, this inspired me to learn piano and was the first piece I learned. The symbolism with the energy crisis and He3 fusion is awesome as well and sparked my interest deeply. Thanks again for another masterpiece Muse!
I see it as these people who were created within a system that they cannot leave and they grow and develop into thinking that they are real and that they are human. When it is time to reset the project, they do not want to. They start to run away from the thing that would result in resetting them or in their case ( what they think) killing them.
In an isolated system the entropy can only increase indeed. That's why everytime I hear someone say "why go to space, there are plenty of things to fix here on Earth first" is basically ignorance. If we focus on fixing things here on Earth, this has no end. In fact it will get worse as time passes. Why couldn't we just attempt to both?
i remember first listening to and watching this when i was 14 yo and it gave me chills, because i felt like i could relate to the kids running, like they're running away from the chaotic future that awaits them in adulthood, running away from this world they've been left with, and just muse as a whole knew how to musically portray the angst and frustration that i felt at that age when learning more and more about the society i was living in. still one of my favourite bands of all time
This melody is beautiful and although it is ironic it harmonizes very well all the disasters we have been doing throughout the existence of humanity. Muse always amazing with her beautiful melodies I just love them
ENTERUSERNAMEHERE555 yes it is but I my comment was geared towards the video which represents what I would imagine a hyperdimensional physical world would be like "the field of hyperdimensional physics as one based on geometry and mathematics, and which involve other spatial dimensions. According to Hoagland (with due regard to Tom Bearden, et al), hyperdimensional physics goes back to the 19th Century, where mathematicians and physicists began delving into “theoretical ‘non-Euclidian’ geometries (geometries involving spatial dimensions in addition to ‘length, breadth and height’), and a set of specifically predicted physical interactions of energy and matter determined by those ‘non-Euclidian geometries.’" and then you could combine that with entropy and get what's in the video. =)

As a non biased Muse fan, impartial to any previous albums, I absolutely think The 2nd Law doesn't deserve half the crap it gets for being an 'inferior' Muse album. I personally feel it's a great collection of songs marred only by one or two missteps (the dub-step experiments were a bit cheesy and spoiled the mood). This song however ties together the whole album's bleak message beautifully and I think it marks the peak of their most electronic focused music.
Wahai muslimin janganlah kalian merendahkan diri, kalian adalah yg utama. Percayalah kepada Allah dengan iman taqwa yg utuh, kembalilah menjadi suci , Allah memintamu berbahagia, Iblis memintamu ragu ragu Ingat pesanku ya..
i love this entire album. panic station is an instant-Pavlovic dance song, and Madness is similarly a must-sing. Love it. LOVE it. So when I say this is actually my favorite of them all, I mean it. does something to smooth the hackles and quiet the hindbrain. i am so, so glad this exists.

Actually that's the Follow Me instrumental you're thinking of. Same band, same alum though
(correct me if I'm wrong, they might've used both)
I see this as humanity running from inevitable extinction. As previously established, in an isolated system, entropy can only increase. Even though Physics dictates that the human race, among with all things, will come to an end, as a race we a we determined to keep running from it. When the woman runs the opposite way, it could symbolise how we will only realise this when it's too late.
Just my view.
Survival instinct is normal in all life forms in Earth, even in humans, who know the end is inevitable.
Eoghan Corr Beautiful and chaotic! Exactly how I like.
+Eoghan Corr but even exploring space, the universe is a closed system, and eventually entropy will increase to the point in it that the entire universe will end
@@ShadoeLass nope, Universe is infinte, so we can't apply Second Law to it. There must some more general and broad law to acknowledge the infinity of our universe but we don't have data to somehow find it and I guess we will never will
The last runner is magnificent!
Thank you. But honestly every one of the runners/actors were incredible.
This is the official theme for the 2020s :D
This is beautiful. It is so metaphorical in so many ways, and the song is amazing.
I love it.
I can't even describe what I feel when I listen to this song 🖤✨
Imagine being one of the first humans to become truly sentient, self aware and in possession of the knoweldge of death...
Imagine being a member of the last generation of sentient beings in existence... The universes last chance to dream, dance, sing, contemplate and love.
In all reality this will be experienced by something very far in the future, maybe from us, maybe not, orbiting a black hole, in our universe that is consumed by only darkness, other than the light that comes from their ship. As the song says entropy in an isolated system will always be reached, and we can only survive with disorder.
its sin & lawlessness it could have been prevented if just ONE cop had done their job
Have faith and be one of us

Its arrogant to think we'll save the Earth. It's not in danger, We need to save ourselves.

“It scares the hell out of me.”
Nobody:
Me: and the end is all I can seeeeee.
If you don’t get this you obviously haven’t listened to thoughts of a dying atheist. Which you should cause it’s awesome
The second law: the number of Zombies in an isolated system can only increase.
xD
you can't never outrun death..
just embrace it openly when it comes to take you
Still doubting my existence.
Excellent work, this inspired me to learn piano and was the first piece I learned. The symbolism with the energy crisis and He3 fusion is awesome as well and sparked my interest deeply. Thanks again for another masterpiece Muse!
The He3 is actually a reference to their record label: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helium_3_(record_label).
themadness2007 Have you thought that their record label is probably named after fusion of Helium3?
themadness2007
And that in 'Explorers' there is a line that says "Fuse Helium-3, our last hope"?
Check out my interpretation of this piece with a few of my own sounds added: soundcloud.com/s28400/closed-system
Inspired me to learn too!
I see it as these people who were created within a system that they cannot leave and they grow and develop into thinking that they are real and that they are human. When it is time to reset the project, they do not want to. They start to run away from the thing that would result in resetting them or in their case ( what they think) killing them.
WWZ was the best zombie flick I’ve ever seen if theaters by far
In an isolated system the entropy can only increase indeed. That's why everytime I hear someone say "why go to space, there are plenty of things to fix here on Earth first" is basically ignorance. If we focus on fixing things here on Earth, this has no end. In fact it will get worse as time passes. Why couldn't we just attempt to both?
well said.
i remember first listening to and watching this when i was 14 yo and it gave me chills, because i felt like i could relate to the kids running, like they're running away from the chaotic future that awaits them in adulthood, running away from this world they've been left with, and just muse as a whole knew how to musically portray the angst and frustration that i felt at that age when learning more and more about the society i was living in. still one of my favourite bands of all time
Omg same
This melody is beautiful and although it is ironic it harmonizes very well all the disasters we have been doing throughout the existence of humanity. Muse always amazing with her beautiful melodies I just love them
All those years and it's still giving me goosebumps. I can't shake the feeling of dread and inevitability of certain things.
Thermodynamics everywhere...
Correction, hyperdimensional physics everywhere
www.halexandria.org/dward118.htm
+twas brillig the concept of entropy is still thermodynamics isn't it?
Nothing in life is certain except death, taxes and the second law of thermodynamics
When the French Sadi Carnot discover it , he let Muse getting this jewel ...
probably the best muse music video
Matt is such a brillant human being.. the way he understands music, is beyond what most people grasp about everyday life
I remember seeing h the WWZ Muse gig paired for by Brad Pit in London at the Horse Parade Grounds. Superb gig. This what was playing before it started. Goosebumps.
I love this song i personally think this is one of your best songs yet. This is all i want to listen to all day long.
MUSE is the art of pure music
Totally agree
this is one of the most profound videos of this era. It perfectly explains what is happening now. 4/26/22 Still relevant.
Случайно наткнулся в рекомендациях, сколько слушаю Muse, ни разу не попадалась эта композиция, очень жалею, что узнал о ней только сейчас. Теперь на повторе на ближайшую неделю.
If you know what entropy is, it's really easy to understand the meaning of this video.
***** The title of the song is quite explicit.
Entropy: The more you fight, the more you lose.
1: You can't win.
2: You can't break even.
3: You can't quit.
(You've probably seen this before but there you go.)
Everybody who passed the 8th grade knows what entropy is.
@@rydactyl I bet you 90% of the population couldn't explain what it is and 30% never heard the word
Am I the only one who get goosebumps every time this violon pops up at 1:25?
Me sorprendí cuando escuché esta canción en Guerra Mundial Z, muy buen tema, viva Muse!
muse you are underrated
As a non biased Muse fan, impartial to any previous albums, I absolutely think The 2nd Law doesn't deserve half the crap it gets for being an 'inferior' Muse album. I personally feel it's a great collection of songs marred only by one or two missteps (the dub-step experiments were a bit cheesy and spoiled the mood).
This song however ties together the whole album's bleak message beautifully and I think it marks the peak of their most electronic focused music.
I could listen this all day on repeat
If 2020 were to have a theme, this is it.

i love this entire album. panic station is an instant-Pavlovic dance song, and Madness is similarly a must-sing. Love it. LOVE it.
So when I say this is actually my favorite of them all, I mean it. does something to smooth the hackles and quiet the hindbrain. i am so, so glad this exists.

the amazing song
This song gives me 2000's vibes. Whenever I listen to this song, I feel the 90s-2000s that I have never experienced. We are the wrong generation born at the wrong time, I wish I was young in the 90s-2000s when technology took over so many people and didn't break people apart.
Cómo el sonido en manos de artistas talentosos puede convertirse en obras de arte , solo con MUSE.
this song is the definition of perfect
This song reaches my soul in a kinda way that I can't explain
Moral of the story: Animus disynchronization will always catch up to you. Also if we continue consuming like this the earth will kill us
more like humanity collapses on itself.
This video can have multiple meanings in my opinion, this is what makes it soooo good !! I can't get enough of this song... Gives me goosebumps
I'm curious if other people feel this song could be about nuclear war and the world ending through nuclear explosions from the bombs being dropped?
This is the most scientific song I've ever heard in my life. Thermodynamics law hit my head over and over again
never knew muse made this song until today, loved it in world war z
A hundred thumbs up for this. Excellent!
Listening to this song you understand why Muse's songs play a lot of times on Doctor Who episodes....I miss those times
