OMG.......THANK YOU I just had the 3 blinking light error and Google brought me to your video. I did what you said and pulled that hose out and when I sucked on it to hear the clicks I got a mouthful of water. Once I cleared all the condensation that had collected the furnace was back to normal. Thanks a million Bryan
You just saved my butt!!!! I did everything all the other videos told me - no one ever suggested sucking the pipes with a vaccume!!!! I have gone 5 days trying this and that.....If I could hug you, I would!!!!
Man, you totally saved me a $250 weekend service call with this. The video and fix were perfect for me. The kids had stuffed a half dozen pine cones down the vent outlet. Thank you!
You saved my life!!! It's a Friday afternoon (always happens near the weekend) and it has been snowing nonstop. You saved me a lot of money and stress. Thanks!
I would just like to thank you for teaching me this method. To make a long story short, I just don't have the money to repair my furnace. I did as your video instructed me and wala, it is working again. Bless you.
Just want to take a minute to thank you and thank you RUclips. I fixed my furnace, Probably saved $500 - $1500. Control board was blinking 3x and induction fan kept going on and off itself. Armstrong furnace. I’ll explain the price range shortly. But it’s your video and another video that really helped after watching about 10 videos! You and this other person explained it very well. With that basic knowledge and understanding of functions, I was able to isolate the problem. Thanks again, read on for details :) If you have the will and ability to problem solve and research, it will save you a lot of money. So $600, the technician said was my problem, the control board. I said all you have to do is unplug and plug things, I can do that myself but since you’re here can u give me a better price. And the key question, “is this going to fix it?” I understand the answer, but I don’t like it, “we will only know once we do it”. I felt this was a fix but will lead to other issues/charges. So I paid their trip/diagnostic charge, thank u. I bought and swapped the control board myself. Control Board only $125. Dedicated about a day to educate myself. Found out, it was NOT the control board, so I have a spare now, in case. Turned out to be a short in my thermostat wires. Lucky for me it was right where the furnace was, I don’t know if the installer or other technicians that came before & did this on purpose but there was an open wire touching the side of the furnace. This is the furnace side close to the wall, so it was kind of tucked in between. I felt wow this is HVAC milk money, like a shady ponzi mechanic. But then again, there’s a slight chance it was random. Also want to mention the companies that I called are all 4-5 star, google reviews with many reviews.
Thank you sooooo much, my boys and I were stuck in 2022 winter storm in NY and it was -25 ice forming on windows an that trick worked. I cannot thank you enough thank you!!!
Thanks so much for this video! The first 30 seconds told me I needed to check the vacuum tube and when I sucked on the tube to see if it would hold pressure I got water coming out. Apparently a rain we had this morning allowed water to sneak in there somehow but after draining it (not much of it) my heat is working again. Thanks, Bryan!
Your video helped a lot. Lennox furnace, 3 blinking red lights. I removed the tube between the pressure switch and the combustion air inducer. I ran the pipe cleaner through the tube, no blockage. then I took the pipe cleaner reamed out the hole in the combustion air inducer where the tube connects. I think I dislodged a piece of corrosion that may have been blocking the air flow. I heard the piece of corrosion flop around inside when the inducer motor started and then the furnace fired up.
Thanks for the tip to look for a wasp nest. Looked in the pipe and sure enough there was a wasp nest. Vacuumed it out with the shop vac and everything worked. Saved me a service call and $$$.
Thank you so much for making this video. Very cold we’re I am. Had tech coming out Monday would of costed God knows how much. Thank you, may you be blessed & stay safe❤️🙏🏾
Did the suck test on the pressure switch and it checked ok. Put my shop vac on blowing and blew back through the exhaust pipe, took the small hose off and blew through it, reassembled and presto we have heat. the clue to test the pressure switch was valuable. I could have bought a new part and still had the problem. Thanks for the help
Thanks for this video. It helped me, I did remodeling in the kitchen and eliminated a chimney so in other words I plugged myself not remembering that the heater was connected there.
Mom's furnace kept starting and stopping so I checked the intake and exhaust lines. The intake like was blocked; the furnace fired up like normal right after I removed the blockage. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for saving me and my kids from freezing tonight! I'm going to need to replace a part in the morning, but you simplified it so I got it running for now.
Good looking out! Saved me some cash. I had the siding replaced on my house this summer after watching your video went outside and 1 of the exhaust pipes was upside down and full of rainwater! Thanks bro!
An hour of net searching later this video fixed it. I had condensation build up in the air sensor valve. When I went to test the valve I heard water in it. Just unscrewed and tipped upside down to drain. Fixed.
I had the three lights blink. Troubleshoot guide on furnace stated: Pressure switch failure to close. Checked pressure hose. It was hard and cracked on one end so I trimmed the end with scissors and problem resolved. THANK YOU.
This comment fixed my furnace. Did the same thing. It seemed like the hose was just like stretched out and wasn't creating perfect suction so I trimmed the tip and put it back on. Works like new. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Bryan. Our heat went out tonight, but and I was able to fix it all thanks to you and your video. This Thanksgiving, we will be giving thanks to you!
Ive been dealing with this for days im hoping your video helps my friend. Your the first video ive found that seems like it truly can help me haha. Ive seriously did every trouble shooting step i possibly could 🤕
Great info. Consider checking the input and exhaust pipes outside the house first as this might be easier than opening everything up. I had a wasp nest in the exhaust. Fixed now. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this, on one hand I wish I had checked the light and tried this before pulling the ignitor and flame sensors to test them, but this definitely saved me a several hundred dollar weekend service call.
Thank you so much! I pulled off the hose and found the nipple valve opening had been crusted over. I sucked the hose like you suggested and heard the click. Cleaned out the opening and I'm good.
nice!! concise and direct to the point! These are the parts of the WEB that make the Internet worthwhile......I forget every year that clogging and condensation cause problems---last year I just banged on it and something loosened up and it worked fine all winter---this year needed to follow your great instructions---Thanks, keep up the good work.
You're awesome! At first the heater would not work because the flame sensor was dirty (look it up on RUclips, easy fix) then it stopped again. It was a tiny hole in the vacuum line I found after watching your vid. Warm again!
Thanks just saved me a service call and some1 lying to me about needing a part that i didnt need. Blew out line.. fired right up.. Bingo.. Thanks... Good video...
Awesome. Have a 12 year old Goodman gas furnace that would not put out heat (blower on then shut down) Saw the 3 red flash error code. Bought a $30 pressure switch. Installed and all systems go with no more error codes👍🏻👍🏻
Great video. I just fixed mine. The tube going into the pressure switch was clogged at the nipple. I stuck a bobbi pin down in it to clean it and problem fixed. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much when I came home it was +8c in the house and out side is -11c I had to turn on the stove to heat up the house to fix the furnace so my pipes wont freeze... I was doing all this while the family was sleeping ..... THANK YOU SO MUCH
I know it's been 6 years since you posted this, but you saved my family a cold night. Mine wasn't a bee's nest, it was a stuffed teddy bear stuck in the outlet, it's comes out the side of the house by the AC condensor. Lol DANG KIDS
Thank you for your video. I just got my furnace started up again when my landlord's maintenance guy said we'd need to wait on the HVAC tech. The low is -10F tonight so I wanted to get it done today. The only difference is my furnace had what looked like, two pressure switches. I pulled the hose off each, sucked in, both clicked. When I held the ON button nothing happened though, but I was trying to pinch it close and I don't think I was getting a good seal. According to forum posts, people also recommended sticking a small drill bit into the nipples where the hoses connect to the motor, incase of an obstruction or corrosion, so I did that as well (but didn't notice any resistance). I hooked everything back up, pressed the switch and the motor started to turn, so I put the gas section front plate back on and held the switch and it all fired up. Thanks again
hi Bryan , I have some 3 blink red light issues as you described ,I have new houses only 1 years old and my area is construction zone,, the heating company staff coming and take the holes out and they saw lot of sand and clay in it , after taking off the external pipe out , they said it ok now , but later my heating has short cycle , by opening the furnace and start the furnace i heard some sound like a sand and chip inside the motor or pump. How do I fix it ? should I just vacuum the water ? if it ok after vacuum the water from the pump out should I refill with water again ? Please help .
Thank you for posting this video. I am having the same issue, and the first t hing I will be doing in the morning is to see if the solution is the same as in your video. In any case, I will let you know. Thank you in advance.
Hi, sorry I didn't get back to your comment. I'm guessing you got it fixed by now. I was talking about the igniter. I said if it doesn't glow red it may be bad. Sometimes they can have a hairline crack that you can not see
My furnace in the attic is Trane XE80 and a humidifier Aprilaire 445 is attached to it and I have had condensation issue too. I think the humidifier is not working. In the past I had water come down through the ceiling from the furnace, and it still worked until last night. I opened the humidifier collection tank and emptied the water, but water still dripping from the water float sensor never ending. I got 3 blinks code. I did it like what you said in your video; nothing happened. The fan inducer tried to spin but then stopped. So I spin the fan blades manually while bending the hose after I sucked on it; then the fan started spinning by itself and the inducer started, but after a minute it died out. It did not ignite at all. What could be the problem? Is it the inducer, pressure switch itself, or control board or something else?
Great video. One thing I'd suggest is leaving the thermostat off because usually will take longer startup when door switch is pressed while there is a call for heat from stat. Simple way to call for heat is first push the door switch then jumper white and red terminals on the board.
@@bryanksees Well I'm not sure I was clear on my point. If there's a call for heat while the unit is powered on the system goes through about a 45 second blower on cycle before doing the normal startup sequence which can be avoided. It assumes there may have been an overheat cut-out so as a precaution the blower runs to cool the unit before initiating ignition sequence.
My coleman furnace in mobile home flashed 3 times. And blew on both hoses and its working again. I ordered a new pressure switch to replace it with. But in the mean time . Its good.
Mine was just goop clogging the hose for the pressure switch in the nipple on the port on the fan. Just cleaned it out with a piece of wire and it’s all fixed for no out of pocket cash. My nipple and hose are a very small diameter.
thanks man thought my blower was going what to disconnect the hose to suck on it and realize my hose was broken snipped the end and reconnected works like a charm thanks
(0;35) If you can suck on that hose....my husband said "suck on a hose, "I'm not sucking on any hose", so he goes in the basement "sucks" on the Hose and it works...........lol
I'm getting 3 slow blinks on my Armstrong high efficiency. Nothing comes on at all. Transformer is putting out 24 volts. Gas valve gets 13 volts in off position 🤷♂️
I just wish everyone would do their own troubleshooting.when you hire afurnace man, he knows you havegiven him a blank check!you want heat...and if hes a predetor like 915 are,you are frigged without the joy of sexual intercourse
not unlikely that their was sabotage. on 20.20 or somewhere the show took loose a wire nut then called 9 contractors.the highest estimate was 2400!out of 9 ,only one was less than 300!what predators. They know you are not likely to get another estimate The bigger the outfit, the worse it seems to be. These guys are in a contest to see who can make the boss the richest....in a job interview ,my bro-in-law was basically ask if he could take advantage of an old woman, of coarse not in those words.small town guys maybe working all by themselves, may be more ethical, eager to take it easy on a customer, delighting in the joy a job well one brings with it.
Mine also fixed. Stem#2 - check your inlet and outlet air. The inlet pipe has some metal mesh and it was all covered with snow. No wonder it build up pressure. Now it's all back running. Outside is 0F and going deep down to -10F tomorrow...
Mine has 2 vacuum censors. gms9/gcs9. Went through all the same steps, both censors. but when that didn't work, i pull the connectors off each one, jumpers them together to close the switch. didn't work. so I hooked them back up, all of a sudden my shop furnace fired back up. Perhaps I have an intermittent switch, and when i jumpered, it reset the system.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER It's worked fine since. My business neighbor is heating/cooling business for Courier/Bryant, they said it was likely tripped by high winds, snow the night before and a vacuum formed up the exhaust pipe.
replaced the pressure switch as a got a lot of air when i sucked on it so there appeared to be a leak. Once new pressure switch was on I could suck on it to get the switch to close but once the other end which hooks into the blower was connected it out off. Seems to me the blower out to be sucking but it is blowing. Does that mean the blower needs to be replaced also?
I’m a service tech for a professional company…. I would NEVER recommend sucking the pressure switch in to get it to fire. Can be VERY dangerous. If the exhaust is clogged the board will think it’s not… and you will get a mini explosion.
Hello, My furnace was giving three blinks, I disconnected hose, sucked end & heard it close. I pushed button again to restart, then gave two blinks? I also disconnected vest to see if total disconnection would help ..nothing. Thanks
I get the 3-blink code, i remove the hose, I meter the switch and it changes state. So the switch closes when it is supposed to, but I still get the 3-blink code. Does this indicate a bad controller board, giving me an incorrect code?,
i have the three blinking lights. The furnace didnt work when i sucked on the pressure switch hose and held it. The vent pipe is not blocked. I replaced the pressure switch and the furnace still wont start :(
I went on a call similar to this last week. Found a dead bird in the burner compartment, another in the first elbow from outside, then a big birds nest stuck in the exhaust right above the 3-2" reducer where it comes into the furnace closet. Idiot installer didn't put any screens on the pipes outside. I always put screens in mine. Nasty job, had to cut the line way up by the ceiling and pull all that crap out of the pipe. I put 3 screens in. One for the furnace and it's makeup air. and the water heater (also had 3" PVC vent, one of them power vent style tanks).
OMG.......THANK YOU
I just had the 3 blinking light error and Google brought me to your video. I did what you said and pulled that hose out and when I sucked on it to hear the clicks I got a mouthful of water. Once I cleared all the condensation that had collected the furnace was back to normal.

Thanks so much. These tips got my furnace back running on the coldest day of the year.
Thank you! Troubleshoot went as you described and I went outside and saw the intake vent had a bag stuck in it! Thank you so much!
Thanks to this video I was able to fix my furnace!
Saved me so much money man. Honestly life saver. Ended up having to clear the ports of the inducer fan and the switch and it worked. Appreciate this!
YOU SAVED ME A HUGE BILL. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was having this problem with my furnace, opened it up and saw that the hose had become disconnected. Simple fix. Thanks man!
i watched 1:50 of your clip and went outside cut my exhaust pipe and found my 2 yr old stuffed rocks down the pipe. works now, thanks for your help.

Ooooooooooooooooo
Fixed mine! Thanks! Mine had some like hard water filled in the valve end. Used a tack to clean it out. Thanks again!
Dude your the truly the best. Thank you so much. It's gonna be -1 here tmrw and everyone is booked tight.
Seems to have worked for me as well so far. Thank you very much for putting this info up.

It was the hose for me. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for sharing. This helped me save so much money, and made me a hero in my own home. Peace!
thank you for this. took one blow in the the tube, could feel something unclog and started working again.
Lot of flame roll out. Did you check the heat exchanger for holes?
That's what the rollout limit switch is for.

In any case, I will let you know.
Thank you in advance.
thank you very much my furnace is now running from a plugged line.
Thank you man!!
It was exactly as you said it.
The last thing. You said to replace can you be more specific of what to replace? What part exactly? You just said to unplug then what?
Hi, sorry I didn't get back to your comment. I'm guessing you got it fixed by now. I was talking about the igniter. I said if it doesn't glow red it may be bad. Sometimes they can have a hairline crack that you can not see

Transformer is putting out 24 volts. Gas valve gets 13 volts in off position 🤷♂️
Thanks. Just pulled bird nest out of vent saved me a trouble call
This guy knows his stuff!

Thanks for saving me money
I cannot suck on my. There's some resistance from pressure sensor. Bad sensor ?
Thanx for this video!!💯
You saved my day with this. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m a service tech for a professional company…. I would NEVER recommend sucking the pressure switch in to get it to fire. Can be VERY dangerous. If the exhaust is clogged the board will think it’s not… and you will get a mini explosion.
I have a high pitched squeal coming from my amana gas furnace. Similar to a smoke alarms with a dead battery. Help?
the blower is supposed to suck. i blew on the tube and it was stopped up. Took a paperclip, cleaned out the nipple, fixed it immediately.
Hello, My furnace was giving three blinks, I disconnected hose, sucked end & heard it close. I pushed button again to restart, then gave two blinks? I also disconnected vest to see if total disconnection would help ..nothing. Thanks
really appreciate your video , very helpful :)
I get the 3-blink code, i remove the hose, I meter the switch and it changes state. So the switch closes when it is supposed to, but I still get the 3-blink code. Does this indicate a bad controller board, giving me an incorrect code?,
But my fan doesn’t kick on either could that cause that as well?
Fan not kicking on could be thermostat issue. Or fan issue itself. Or could be a board problem. Sorry so late.
i have the three blinking lights. The furnace didnt work when i sucked on the pressure switch hose and held it. The vent pipe is not blocked. I replaced the pressure switch and the furnace still wont start :(
Well, On our furnace the burners ignite but cut off after one minute and the error code light blinks three short blinks and one long blink.
THANK YOU GEEE-ZUS
What if you can suck on the hose, get the click, but while holding the tube, the furnace does not kick on
Are you getting a 3 blink code?
what if the ac works fine but the heat keep kicking out? thats whats happening to me
I went on a call similar to this last week.
Fantastic. Hvac hacks
Thats why i hate bugs, becuz they always ruin everything
Brilliant
