  • I recommend sleeping on your side for the vast majority of my patients. If you are one of the rare few where sleeping on your side causes your jaw to lock, then please do NOT sleep on your side!

    Great to hear side sleeping is best because no matter what strategy I use I wake up on my side. Curious to see what pillow recommendations you have

    Last night I was drooling after having 6.5 events an hour. I have a chin strap that needs adjustment. My central Ai was 5.9 . It didn't record obstructive apnea this morning. It varies every day with foods I eat that cause my jaw to sublux . Tomorrow is my 13th chiropractor appointment. I will be reassessing my rib and scapula situation. I still haven't fitted my night guard properly . This week I should do something about it.

    When it comes to scan for TMJ is MRI scan the best over say a CT.

    im trying to figure out what orthodontist i should chose.
    are orthodontic clinics that also provide myofuctional therapy better? because when applying braces they will not create end result that will interfere with correct tongue posture.

    Should I sleep on the side that doesn’t hurt, or the side that does? Or does it matter?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  26 дней назад +1

      It generally doesn't matter but if it causes more pain to sleep on the side that hurts, then switch :)

    I recently had braces for over bite and deep bite. They kept a blue bite guard on my inner teeth. I had my jaw locked 2 times on my right side and not able to open my mouth fully 😢. Pls tell me is that due to braces or tmj. Also does mewing help?

    Hi! I have bad TMD and after Botox in the jaw my entire area got so unstable. I wake up in the night with open jaw lock because I unconsciously open my mouth super wide when I’m asleep. What can I do?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  3 месяца назад

      unfortunately the only solution I have for this is not opening that wide. Sorry - I don't have a better solution. You are likely slightly hypermobile in the jaw joints.

    Do TMJ orthotics cause a change in your jaw appearance, or will your facial features stay the same?

    My million dollar question re sleep and TMJ is how not to clench in my sleep. A not insignificant reason that I don’t seek treatment is that I figure I will undo any gains as soon as I fall asleep and clench with Superman strength again, but I have NO idea how to stop. I do not have sleep apnea do sleep on my side.

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  4 месяца назад +1

      There’s no appliance that will stop your from clenching but there are TMJ orthotics that mitigate the effects of clenching -> drastically reducing pain and protecting the joints.

    I feel like any pressure on my temples gets it worse. I avoid sleeping sideways cuz of that.

En que casos se puede dar esto? Llevo 2 semanas durmiendo de espalda sin almohada o con una muy baja y es de la única manera que noto mejoría .🤔🤔

      @theTMJdoc  4 месяца назад +1

      For a rare few, TMD worsens if you sleep on your side. This is usually in people who have a lot of instability in the jaw joint and are prone to clicking, popping, and locking episodes.

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  4 месяца назад

      Well, it’s still not preferable because the jaw drifts backwards which puts pressure on the joints.
