A cool FX trick for using one EQ on your whole project (all tracks) like an EQ on the Main Master Slot. I saw Pete John do was you record a FX then delete it from the timeline and leave that FX track blank, then you can EQ everything (all tracks) with the EQ available on that FX track, being that the FX is meant to affect all your tracks at once, it’s only logical that the Eq will too. It’s a cool trick. There was another one that’s a little complicated but it’s converting the Drummer tracks into midi.
I’ve been binge watching your videos to get a running start at GarageBand and they are great (here it comes) but I feel like there are really basic operations around note values, track manipulations, exporting your project and the like that are missing. Maybe they are so obvious as to not warrant a mention in a video - guess I’ll just have to play around and find out. That said, I’ve found your videos quite helpful.
3 ads in 14 minutes, a new record! But worth it! Even though I am a desktop GB guy, I use my phone for recording ideas and things when I am not at home, and other than the "Follow" on the drumming, I didn't know any of these. Thanks Patrick!
I just set all that stuff to auto, but thanks for letting me know as that seems a wee bit excessive. I’ll have a look and see I can choose to have less in video ads appear. I really appreciate you sticking with the video despite the ads Chris and glad you found it useful!
The swapping instruments dropdown trick is one I definitely was not aware of and such a great feature on iPad. Doesn’t seem to work on my iPhone 14 however but being able to access that on the iPad is awesome.
Man that was one of the most informative videos I’ve seen on ANY channel with regard to the tips you shared, most of which I was clueless about. You always provide outstanding content, and it’s always appreciated. Thanks Patrick, and keep up the excellent work you do like nobody else.
I’m so glad I found your channel! This old analogue coot is still getting dragged kicking and screaming into the digital era, but I also know the many, MANY advantages of DAWs, and I’m here for it! Thank you again for these wonderful, easy-to-follow tips and tricks!
This exact view is only available on 12.9”/13” iPads - you can view one track when using a touch instrument on other screen sizes by swiping down on the ruler that’s at the top edge of it.
@@TheGaragebandGuide hmm weird cause I swore I did this once in my 7th gen iPad 😭 back in 2020. Thank you for your help cause I’ve gone to a lot of RUclipsrs and they said USE AN AUDIO INTERFACE BLAH BLAH but thank you 🙏
I had been using Cubase for 14 years now and studio one for 8. Got a new iPad as a gift, decided to pull something useful out of it to get demos done quickly, etc. The automatic, voice recorder window is excruciatingly-annoying, thank you for the workaround! I googled all over and couldn’t find a solution anywhere, but here! Cheers!
Agreed. Playing guitar irl vs garage band is day and night. Asides the fact you get more strings with real life guitar, actually feeling the strings and neck, changing pickups, using a trem system is so much better irl
Agreed - but sometimes I'm not up to those frets! Plus, you can use the Pitch (Bend) option on the keyboard to bend notes, and you can also play within scale, like Major or Minor Blues with zero knowledge or training.
One of the biggest sources of irritation in GarageBand is that the MIDI information created from instruments recorded in the instrument view cannot be switched to a keyboard track later, especially when there are glissando effects. Really limits flexibility to change sounds later. If you record a keyboard performance, that MIDI track information CAN be reused elsewhere. It's something I wish they'd address.
i used to make song on garageband ios all the time. but now i can't change the tempo or bpm of the music like i once could. so for example i need the beat at 120-130 but it imports at 100-110bpm. any advice??

Excellent work, mate! Best GB channel I've found.

Knew some of the tips and learned a few more... great vid!
Hi, thank you for these very interesting tips ! 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Playing the instruments using the keyboard generally doesn’t sound nearly as good as the touch instrument; the guitars are possibly the worst offender

How about Game Changing tips for Mac . . .
An ipad and Garageband are most excellent for not just jotting down musical ideas...but also developing real commercial music (e.g. game themes).

1:20 it’s that one drake song
Laugh now cry later I just looked it up
Judging by your singing I’m guessing you’re a Zappa fan.
As I am.
