Thank you. Most people have this idea that the thrash kids hated glam, and vice versa. Maybe that was true in some circles, but where I was from, the same kids lining up for the Bon Jovi and Poison tickets were lining up for the Priest and Megadeth tickets.
I have to say, Rikki Rockett became a Great drummer by their 3rd album. Btw, this guy seems very bitter towards Poison. He puts them down every chance he gets. Mad cause he was t truly the one who Produced it? It’s a PERFECT rock album for that genre!
Agreed, he's very bitter and poison never claimed to be a "virtuoso band!". They wrote poppy glam hard rock/metal and that certainly had it's niche and were perfect for the genre and the girls loved them!..
I'm not a big fan of Poison but that idea that all you have to do is have a good looking singer and "passable songs" and boom you go triple platinum is ridiculous
It's "ugly jealous man" mentality. Some sort of stuck up "proper" musician who thinks it's all about looks or that we all want to listen to music to learn everything there is about life.
I didn't finish my sentence during the interview, but I remember hearing about a lawsuit maybe 5 years ago where CC's former bandmates were suing Poison for stealing songs. I think it was like 4 or 5 songs. I remember listening to them, and they weren't just partial rip-offs, they were exact rip-offs - music, lyrics and melodies. Then the lawsuit just disappeared. Does anybody have any info?
Saw them in 2007 or so, and I thought CC was a great showman and a very good guitar player., Bret was slow and boring but he wasn't in the 80's. Ricky was also a great show man.
It's obvious there are sour grapes with this dude. As deep in the industry as this guy supposedly was, it's surprising how out of touch with the scene and trends he was. No wonder nobody's heard of him. He missed the bandwagon so many times and he's sour about it.
These bands really do kind of suck, the producers had much to do with the success of bands like crue and poison, seen them both multiple times. They are shit.
yeah the fact that Bon Jovi had a bassist who never played on the records and was picked for his looks and they had him there for years is a testament to that fact
Well... this guy is speaking the truth. Brett is not a good singer and they were definitely on the lower end of the talent spectrum. C.C. did write some memorable solos but other than that they cashed in on the same thing boy bands did. Looks and gimmick

The dude just basically admitted what we all knew, and acted as the " well used doormat" for grunge to thankfully try and save Rock and roll....( I really never cared for nirvana, but AiC, Pearl jam, and soundgarden, along with revamped VH , etc....the band "LIVE", Tesla, ......and screaming trees , black crowes, Kings x..( most underrated band ever btw, that last one)...they all had a part in helping the old schoolbguys that never left, ( vh, priest, maiden, Aerosmith old stuff, Floyd, Boston comeback) This producer literally made an inane comment, he Saud " poisons album allowed a non talented, talented band with a singer out of tune to create a " landmark album"......lmao....yeah, that's just awesome! Lmfao....oh looòooord!!!😅😅😅😅
Whoa! I've missed the rules to rock n roll. Can someone point me to that link? If you like something, you'll listen, go to the show, buy the album, etc. Just an opinion but how does more in depth or technical musical talent work on LWTCDI or make the album better? It wouldn't! The target audience was not and is not virtuoso nerds. There is a market for that stuff, not every band will be a fit. Having said all of this I will say 1 thing. Of all the poison albums this is the worst produced one. Now, how's that sum it all up?
Sitting here laughing, the joke was people said they sounded like poison, I'm from their hometown back east so congrats to them for making it but it was determination and hard work not musical talent. There are more than a few frontmen that couldn't sing but as someone else has said, when they wiggled those hips the girls went wild. Removing the musical talent barrier to success as a musical act, funny but probably led to the end of the 80's rock scene. Some of that music was really good and is still very enjoyable, but no lipstick or Aquanet Superhold.
Love the raw interview. The music of The Dogs D'Amour was always cool. I just can’t get into the vocalists voice. He reminds me of Lou Reed a bit in how unique it is. It’s just not for me. But it’s sounds like they are doing well and that’s rad. I enjoy poison records. I don’t get into who wrote or played what. It doesn’t have an impact on my bank account. With that said…I was never a fan of their vocals either but I could tune them out on those poison albums.
It's weird to hear a producer so completely trash 90% of the stuff he made a living on. I get if he had to sue Poison he'd throw them under the bus, but he's just pissing on everyone as being unworthy. Honestly, it's not a good look. I have to assume he's one of those guys who speaks in binary terms: Amazing and Terrible. There's no in between which simply isn't how the world works. Bruce Swedien was that way. Spoke about everything in superlatives. Exquisite. Gorgeous. Terrible. Unusable. I'm a retired recording engineer from L.A. and I worked with plenty of bands who require a lot of punch-ins and edits. That's the way it goes. Very, very, very few people are 1 or 2 take perfection. I saw Poison live back in the day. Rikki Rocket may not be Neil Peart but he was completely solid and nowhere near "terrible." The Faster Pussycat record was killer front to back and remains a favorite from the era.
"We opened up the music business. We removed the barrier. The barrier to entry used to be able to sing in tune and have talent and we removed that, and that's a good thing." Imagine thinking that! Foh.
@ You’re joking, right? I’m ready or AirPlay royalties alone that song order made someone very comfortable back. Let alone album sales. They likely didn’t sue because you can’t sue over a riff-it has to be sequence of seven notes (or more) that are identical.
I really like these pulling back the curtain stories. The budget for this record is crazy. I love when he basically says "I don't want to say anything bad but the drummer and singer were "incompetent". LOL Truer words have never been spoken.

Ric is great guest honest and I cracked up couple times. 8 listened to Smashed Gladys yikes!! Now I know how I never heard of em
Another great interview.
Man this guy loves himself….
I agree.
of course some magachud doesn't listen when he continually refers to himself as a garbage producer and refers to Mutt Lange as a God.
@@adamwright7954 Has nothing to do with political persuasion. Fuckin annoying as hell
@@adamwright7954 He's right, as well.
4:54 Stevie Nicks was so coked out she wouldn’t show up for her recording studio time so this dude took it up I love it Fleetwood Mac people would love to hear that little reference
We already know. Whole band was that way
Is this interview part of the segment that you posted later that focuses on Joan Jett?
Im glad to see Brett doing well and the drummer
back in that heyday, Poison's music were just good fun "party" songs. when we wanted substance, we'd listen to thrash 🤘🏻
Thank you. Most people have this idea that the thrash kids hated glam, and vice versa. Maybe that was true in some circles, but where I was from, the same kids lining up for the Bon Jovi and Poison tickets were lining up for the Priest and Megadeth tickets.
Amen 🙏!!!!
6:42 Interesting little crowded house reference
I have to say, Rikki Rockett became a Great drummer by their 3rd album. Btw, this guy seems very bitter towards Poison. He puts them down every chance he gets. Mad cause he was t truly the one who Produced it? It’s a PERFECT rock album for that genre!
@@symbologee so is your family but we don’t post about it.
Agreed, he's very bitter and poison never claimed to be a "virtuoso band!". They wrote poppy glam hard rock/metal and that certainly had it's niche and were perfect for the genre and the girls loved them!..
Great drummer? Hahaha. No. Capable
I love ❤️ Nikki Sixx!
Smashed Gladys is a classic album!
yes it is!!!
eye of the storm my persnal fav.
they did it to get laid :D
The guy actually said Bret Michaels was a "hottie." Is this guy a 68 yr old man or an 80s teenage girl?
😂
Nikki six is a true legend
0:58 What is he saying after girls girls girls I’ve tried to listen to it 15 times and I cannot tell what he says
The two pairs of pants that had Nikki leather?
I'm not a big fan of Poison but that idea that all you have to do is have a good looking singer and "passable songs" and boom you go triple platinum is ridiculous
It's "ugly jealous man" mentality. Some sort of stuck up "proper" musician who thinks it's all about looks or that we all want to listen to music to learn everything there is about life.
That is ridiculous. Poison didn't even have passable songs 😂
Unless "passable" means "yeah I'll pass on listening to this shit'.
@@a_planet_on_fireok
Poison never professed to be great musicians - they set out to be Rock Stars and that is what they became.
Pure gold..
Love this guy! Talking shit about Stevie Nicks being fat and coked out..complete gold.
Wow! I didn't know there were other lawsuits besides "talk dirty to me".
@@fullinbloom they waited too long to sue. The statute of limitations is only 3 years. They waited 20...lol.
@@keithmiller1828 when you wait 20 yrs its most likely bullshit its not like you just heard it on the radio and was like hey thats my fuckn song
@@fullinbloom "Talk Dirty To Me" rips off "She's Tight" by Cheap Trick; "Cat Dragged In" lifts a lot from "Lightning Strikes" by Aerosmith
"I Want Action" has the same melody as Sweden's Easy Action's "We Go Rockin'", which the guitartist is Kee Marcello used to be in Europe.
Ric Browde is a pretty big producer, not sure what you're talking about.
These bands really do kind of suck, the producers had much to do with the success of bands like crue and poison, seen them both multiple times. They are shit.
I hated this band from day one..garbage music
Worked with him one day in the 80s to see if it might work out. We didn't like anything about him.
Music's all a con job. So damn true!
yeah the fact that Bon Jovi had a bassist who never played on the records and was picked for his looks and they had him there for years is a testament to that fact
Well... this guy is speaking the truth. Brett is not a good singer and they were definitely on the lower end of the talent spectrum. C.C. did write some memorable solos but other than that they cashed in on the same thing boy bands did. Looks and gimmick
and it worked perfectly
Looks and gimmicks. Sounds like 85 perfect of the music business since the begining.

Funny thing, when I discovered your channel, I skipped the interviews which I thought would not be interesting. Come to find out, they all are, and I’ll find myself on a Chris Holmes kick, or a Ric Browdie kick, etc……
hate to say it but the guys right musically the album really sucked
but it was fun to listen to basically poison was a boy band with instruments
still i would go see them just to have a good time and reminisce
“Music is a giant con job”… such truth….
The dude just basically admitted what we all knew, and acted as the " well used doormat" for grunge to thankfully try and save Rock and roll....( I really never cared for nirvana, but AiC, Pearl jam, and soundgarden, along with revamped VH , etc....the band "LIVE", Tesla, ......and screaming trees , black crowes,
Kings x..( most underrated band ever btw, that last one)...they all had a part in helping the old schoolbguys that never left, ( vh, priest, maiden, Aerosmith old stuff, Floyd, Boston comeback)

Lawsuits about plagiarizing? Never heard this before and I follow the 80s scene very closely.
were you there in the 80s?
Poison ripped off Easy Action and paid the price hahaha
Ric has no filter
Confidence and street smarts can take you a long way.
As acdc put it "who made who"...
Or should I say who made whom?😉😉
Well said, this guy’s just bitter cause they upgraded to Tom Werman and Bruce Fairbairn after him and sold even more albums.
It's not just Poison. He rips WASP, Faster Puasycat who he also produced
@@user-xb4ev2oi8b I'm sure that's it, user-xbnoonegivesafuck
Are you serious? FP were terrible. GnR wannabes with 20% of gnrs talent. Taime had a shit voice.

@The History Of Dog And Balls and an uptight wanker that won't have a drink be a match for gene Simmons if you could fit both the egos into one room
"We opened up the music business. We removed the barrier. The barrier to entry used to be able to sing in tune and have talent and we removed that, and that's a good thing." Imagine thinking that! Foh.
This guy was always a clown.
Listen to the New York Dolls PERSONALITY CRISIS…it’s where Poison got Talk Dirty To Me from. Im surprised they weren’t sued, to be honest.
Obviously it wasn't enough to sue. Pretty simple
@ You’re joking, right? I’m ready or AirPlay royalties alone that song order made someone very comfortable back. Let alone album sales. They likely didn’t sue because you can’t sue over a riff-it has to be sequence of seven notes (or more) that are identical.
he says cc deville was the best musician in Poison????? now that's sad....lol
C.C. was doing solos for Warrant's debut album, so....🤘😛🤘
If only "writing some passable songs" were so easy....
I really like these pulling back the curtain stories. The budget for this record is crazy. I love when he basically says "I don't want to say anything bad but the drummer and singer were "incompetent". LOL Truer words have never been spoken.
The drummer improved quite a bit later on
