The 'progressive' type actually 'adds' the curve from the first to the last keyframe on the last keyframe. So you can describe it like it's going a stair up, always the same animation, just happening from the last point again. 'Linear' is just pretty useless, it keeps the 'direction' of the end point (if it's a bezier, it will keep the rotation of one handle, if not the same acceleration as before). (All was described to 'after last keyframe', it applies to before as well.)
@@TheFinalCutBro No Problem! I thank you for this great tutorial, you really covered everything and I learned much new. I forgot to write that it's of course also going into the other direction - if the animation was going in general (first Keyframe - last keyframe) up - stair up, if it was going down - stair down.
Absolutely fantastic video! The content length was spot-on, and the pace of your explanation was perfect. You provided just the right amount of detail on each tool, making it easy for me to dive deeper and research further on my own. Thank you!
Thank you for highlighting and breaking down these very useful tools. I’ve used motion too much and for too long to have not known about these navigation options. Thank you.
Dylan, this is one of your best videos yet. I've been using FCP since Apple went to the whole new paradigm with FCP-X, and I've had Motion all that time, too. I'd done some things with Motion through the years, but never felt confident or comfortable with it. Motion was just always something of a dark art to me. Several months ago I made up my mind I was finally going to get comfortable using it, and I've learned a lot since then. But this video unlocked a bunch of new doors for me. I'd used the Keyframe Editor quite a bit, but had no idea about many of the tools you showed here. Thank you for this awesome video.
This is so FREAKING helpful !! Thank you!! I love your tutorials! I wish you could deconstruct one of Motion Arrays Grungy Print Titles to see why they do things that way! I want to be able to grab any bought Motion Array template and deconstruct it to learn its workings. The goal is to be able to create any template we want for the production of our own video content. Thank you, Dylan!
Very helpful. I always struggled with this. The trick is to know when to highlight the keyframes for editing. I always mistakenly tried to individually select the point and adjust.
@@TheFinalCutBro -- You can also uncheck the parameters you DON'T want to be adjusting. But gosh, that's tedious to go through and uncheck and then check again all those parameters. I always figured there had to be a better way than the way I was doing it.
Hi Dylan and thank you for your very practical tutorial. I tested a simple animation to automatically change the color of a text from red to white using Keyframes in Motion 5, then I published it for use in FCP. The problem is that when playing my animation in Motion 5, it works very well while when I use it in FCP, the color transition (Keyframe) is not taken into account ... I do not understand my mistake ... do you have an idea? Thanks for your help.
Hi Dylan, You know a tremendous amount about Apple Motion! What were your main resources in learning Motion? I find Apple's documentation hard to follow, in general, because it usually tells you "what you can do" but without explaining how or why in the same explanation. Thanks for this video.
Amazing video! Does anyone know if it is possible to copy/paste velocity values in Curve Editor? For example, I would like to copy/paste my animation velocity values only without keyframe property values. If i'm trying to copy just a selected curve - the values get pasted either. Thanks
Dylan, is it possible to edit the animation speed of the X, Y, Z position parameter? I found a "custom speed" parameter in the Motion Path behavior, is there any way to apply it to manually created keyframes? Thanks for the video and your answer in advance.
Dylan, I usually like your videos, but this time was not one of your best. You talked the whole video through, and gave very little visual examples. Give the information, do a little visual example (especially as an application - not just a box!) then continue. Yes, this time you left me confused!

Someone really needed to make a video about this topic. Thank you for your great tutorial!
Thank you so so so much ❤️

Thank you Dylan for another informative video!
So super helpful!!
Really useful, what a great overview, thank you!
Wow! Learned so many important things from this video! Thank you so much!

Exactly what I needed... Thanks Dylan!!

I do that way too frequently! A little annoying how they set it up. If you keep an eye on that left panel, you can see which keyframes are selected!

Great video. Thank you!
Thanks it's very helpful!
Good stuff. Keep these tutorials coming
Merci again .
I have downloaded Motion because of you. So apple give money to this channel 😉
very helpful Dylan! thank you 🙏

Maybe when we release a setting for FCP, the Keyframes used in Motion 5 can no longer be used ?
Which screen recorder do you used in this video? 🙏🏻

How is this keyframe editor different from fcpx?
Why they don’t add this feature on final cut pro ??!
why the rebrand?
