Proud to say I built the "steeper than they look" stairs/railings at 8:20 to 9:32. The Slack Stairs were wooden ladders before we replaced them in 1987. We carried out the old metal railings too! Contrary to the comment at the end of the video, the "Wentworth Pass" track travels around the base of the cliff line to the Valley of the Waters, where you can exit at the Conservation Hut. That's if BMNP get organised and get these and other classic tracks re-opened.
My siblings and I would spend holidays all over this area & down to Blackheath as kids. Parents were fine with us going off alone for adventures spanning many kilometers of track, with the cardinal rule being 'back before dark or else'. I did the Ruin Castle walk from the bottom of the Scenic Railway alone when I was maybe 11 or 12. Different times, different kids.
Cloud in the valley is spectacular. I did this track a few years back, and it was awesome experience. You are such an early bird, and you deserve to “own” and enjoy the beauty of nature without anyone else.
Why are all the best walks and views always down the bottom of a shit load of stairs easy going down different story coming out nice work mate awesome 👍🍺
I feel like I am walking with you even though I am sitting on my lounge . I love Wentworth falls and have walked to it so many times . I still haven’t done The Valley of the Waters yet . I would like to do that next time . Thank you for the beautiful video .
I'm so happy to hear that - thanks for hiking along with me on your lounge! The Valley of Waters is also spectacular! Get out there and let me know how you find it! Thank you for watching, Louisa !
Nice video, and I am glad you didn't use a drone, unlike some other RUclipsrs. Drones are banned from the Blue Mountains National Park. At 10:37 you say there are no other tracks at the bottom of the falls. This not quite correct. There are two - Hippocrene Falls track follows the creek downstream from the base of Wentworth Falls and eventually meets up with Vera Falls below the Valley of the Waters. The other is Wentworth Pass, which takes you to the Valley of the Waters just below Red Rock Falls. It was open when you filmed your video, but in April last year it was closed after a landslide, which tragically killed a father and his 9 year old son and severely injured his two daughters. Above it is National Pass but it has been closed since 2017 due to a fatal rockfall. I don't expect either to re-open any time soon, but the Hippocrene Falls track remains open. But yeh, to get back up you need to ascend the same route you came down.
Just remember that when you get to the bottom, you then have to climb back up! Agree that it's a great experience, one we prefer to the walks and climbs at Katoomba.
@@edyhekul Well worth the climb in our opinion. We've been making this walk for many years now, not every year but quite a bit. Never many other people on it. Now in our late 70's and I don't think there'll be another climb for us.
@@doubledee9675 thank you for sharing this with me. It makes me happy to hear that you have done this walk for many years. It's no wonder you keep going back, it is such a peaceful place listening to water flowing down and seeing the magnificent views. If there are any places you recommend hiking, please let me know :D
@@edyhekul I appreciate your reply. I'd suggest Victoria Falls at Mt Victoria. It's of low to medium grade difficulty, easier if the path has been well maintained recently. The walk itself is interesting, but the surrounding scenery is outstanding. A very different walk is Berghofer's Pass, one of the early roads descending to the Hartley Valley. It does face Victoria Pass across the valley and so can be noisy
Another one I would like to do but damn that climb down does not look fun. Those ladders for someone with a fear of heights would sure as hell be worrying. Honestly my anxiety jumped just watching you go down some of that track. What a stunning walk though and the reward at the bottom.
Hey Mick, yeah, it's a bit daunting this one. Just take it one step at a time if you do go, no rush. A truly magnificent hike this one.. it's one of my favourites. Cheers
@edyhekul it does look like a great walk I just don't know about the really steep parts lol. I do hope to do it one day. Hopefully if I get my trip in later this year I can do it as I return through that way
There is a track further on down the side there that leads around the bottom of the cliff and then up to the Conservation hut via what's called Valley of the Waters track. done it about 150 times.
good video. i was going to make a video about hiking from the third floor to the lobby of my apartment building. but now i feel that would be redundant.
I did this walk a bit too late in the day and it got dark and I got lost trying to come back up again. Being lost in the dark with all those cliff edges was a special kind of hell on earth. I ended up in a random street in Leura.
@@dksgardenoasis I was worried that I'd faint and fall backwards in the dark so I just had to focus and try to stay calm. The thought of random things like snakes that I couldn't see in the dark was also in my mind. It was a tough 2 hours lol
Thanks a lot for this video. Today I have visited this place and it’s spectacular. Your videography is brilliant. Could you please let me know which camera you are using also If you using any gimbal ? Thanks

Blue mountains never disappoints. Except for the fact you must then go back UP. 😅

What an adventurous childhood! No doubt you'd know the area like the back of your hand. Thank you for sharing.
Kudos for taking on Slacks Stairs, Maybe I'd tackle it if I was younger, but the older you get (I'm 65) the less you are prepared to take risks.

Is the water there deep enough to swim in?
It's not too deep, I'd say about knee high or so.
This is a lane for the adventure! I’m totally loving it 😊 a little bit dangerous but it’s incredible! And the view is high!

how long did this hike take Luke? what season did you visit?
